...lantern?

Getting married in autumn next year.
I'm not really a flowers sort of person and wedding flowers are bloody expensive!

The room we are having the ceremony in is quite dimly lit apart from a massive chandelier.

Colour scheme is going to be grey/silver and the only centerpieces and other decor we are having will be candles.

Too weird?
Am I just being tight about the flowers?

How about a kitten?

Sounds like a very good idea in a dim venue.
If you do an image search 'bride carrying lantern' you'll see quite a lot of brides and bridesmaids with them.

I bought a knuckle duster bag and had a silk florist on Etsy attach some flowers, something like that might be an option?

A friend of mine carried a book, as a sort of riff on the tradition of carrying a bible. They bonded over poetry, and I'm pretty sure she carried a Ted Hughes 😆

Instead of hymns they had recordings of their favourite poems read by the poets.

The little flower girls carried their favourite teddies. Very sweet.

I wasn’t going to have a bouquet for similar reasons, but it was worth it for the photos.

Several people suggested it was worth it so you don’t have to stress about what to do with your hands. I like the fancy evening bag idea.

ps. If you like a lantern, do it. Literally not harming anyone, and if anyone has an issue with it, they are maaaaaasively unreasonable!

Tbh, I hadn't thought of it before but, if I were to marry again, I think I'd quite like to carry a small lantern too...

What about something like this if you are not keen on flowers? You could make it quite personal with some borrowed pieces from family and friends?

I dislike those more than traditional wedding flowers I'm afraid.

If we do go for flowers I'm keen on the calla lilies so thanks to pp who mentioned them. Quite simple

My friend didn’t want flowers, she held a lovely evening bag instead. A lantern might be a bit cumbersome and swing about a bit? Maybe give it a trial run and see how it looks a feels?
you can also get cheaper flowers, my friends mum did hers using flowers from the garden.

I was speed reading and read this as a lantern of cucumbers. Now that’s impactful.
