...lantern?

Getting married in autumn next year.
I'm not really a flowers sort of person and wedding flowers are bloody expensive!

The room we are having the ceremony in is quite dimly lit apart from a massive chandelier.

Colour scheme is going to be grey/silver and the only centerpieces and other decor we are having will be candles.

Too weird?
Am I just being tight about the flowers?

I'd carry nothing rather than a lantern. Just get a bunch of flowers from M&S. trim the stems and bind them with a ribbon.

RomeoMcFlourish · 10/01/2023 07:39

I would find it slightly odd, but there’s nothing stopping you. My friend had a very budget wedding and used a bouquet of cheap fake flowers that she put together herself following YouTube videos I think. No one noticed or cared, she looked lovely.

Do what you want its your wedding.
Why do you need permission?

I think you should get married however you like

If you are not a flowery type of person then your friends and family will recognise and appreciate your uniqueness

Lanterns could be very tastefully done , dot them round the room maybe in a bigger size

Enjoy planning your day - how ever suits you as a couple 💡

AnuSTart · 10/01/2023 07:40

It sounds lovely!

piglet81 · 10/01/2023 07:41

It’s your wedding - you should do exactly what you want! I think a lantern could look cool, very dramatic.

Largethighsbadeyes · 10/01/2023 07:41

I'm asking for opinions rather than permission

Would it be lit??? I would be nervous of it getting hot/burning me/my dress.

I had a bunch of pink roses from the market. Trimmed and bound by me. Cost £15

Hadnauseum · 10/01/2023 07:43

A single candle would have religious connotations for me. A lantern (a candle inside a glass box) would look too costume like. When I get married I’m planning on just carrying my clutch bag.

feelingrubbish2023 · 10/01/2023 07:43

My only thoughts would be the photos, especially after the ceremony.I think a lantern will look odd in photos but with no flowers you'd need to be aware of how you hold your arms/hands.

Largethighsbadeyes · 10/01/2023 07:43

I'd use a fake candle to avoid combustion 😅

If you would like to, why not? It’s your wedding. I’ve seen and heard of weirder things. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Shunkleisshiny · 10/01/2023 07:44

For some reason I'm getting Florence Nightingale vibes about this.

blitzen · 10/01/2023 07:45

I think lantern would be a bit strange. Sorry!

As it'll be autumn, how about dried flowers if not fresh or fake?

CellarDoreen · 10/01/2023 07:45

I'd quite like the look of it, but it may be borderline spooky. So not to everyone's taste

MotherOfCrocodiles · 10/01/2023 07:46

Hm I think it sounds lovely, very symbolic. Better than flows which I think makes you look gift wrapped, a lantern is a better symbol for sure.

But would slightly worry you would look like a spooky elf off lord of the rings or something (maybe that's ok though?).

Helpmesortit · 10/01/2023 07:46

I’m with the it seems strange party…sorry

Feelallright · 10/01/2023 07:46

I think a candle would look very religious or cosplay. But that’s up to you. Why can’t you just buy a bunch of flowers from the supermarket and tie a ribbon around them? That’d be less than £10.

DuncanBiscuits · 10/01/2023 07:47

Florence Nightingale or Catholic priest waving a censer about.

I’d rather make my own flowers if I were you, I think.

Krakenes · 10/01/2023 07:47

I think it would light up my face in a weird way, it usually gives people the impression of double chins (better to have light from the top than underneath). Not sure I’d want that look in my photos!!

Greybutterfly · 10/01/2023 07:47

Just weird and will give out a strange light / reflection on you walking down. Place around the room instead if dimly lit

TerraNostra · 10/01/2023 07:48

If you are having a photographer take pictures as you walk down the aisle you might want to discuss with him/her as the light could reflect off your face in a way that spoils the photos.

RewildingAmbridge · 10/01/2023 07:49

Bray Wyatt the wrestler does this as his ring entrance

SausageInCider · 10/01/2023 07:49

I went to Tesco the day before my wedding, got a couple of bunches of flowers and cobbled them together into a bouquet with the stems wrapped in ribbon. They looked great and cost about £15.

im afraid to say a lantern with a fake candle sounds a bit odd but that’s probably because I haven’t seen it. Ultimately you can do whatever you like, but flowers don’t have to cost loads if that’s the only reason you were discounting them

Twizbe · 10/01/2023 07:50

Sounds lovely.

My aunt didn't have a bouquet at her wedding. She carried a prayer book with a silk ribbon in it instead.

Very personal and beautiful.
