...lantern?

Getting married in autumn next year.
I'm not really a flowers sort of person and wedding flowers are bloody expensive!

The room we are having the ceremony in is quite dimly lit apart from a massive chandelier.

Colour scheme is going to be grey/silver and the only centerpieces and other decor we are having will be candles.

Too weird?
Am I just being tight about the flowers?

Wee Willie Winkie-like, do you mean?

Tessisme · 10/01/2023 09:47

What is the style of your dress? I'm thinking you might end up looking like a Druid. Up to you to decide if that's good or bad😅

Confusion101 · 10/01/2023 09:50

OP I'd opt for carrying nothing (whenever I do get married). Whatever you carry is going to hide your beautiful dress.

Is someone walking you up the aisle? Thinking about what you could do with your hands. You'll be walking back down with DH. Wjatebe

I want to love the idea but unfortunately am just getting the cosplay/ innkeeper vibes. Plus I agree the lighting could be unflattering.

Dried flowers or autumn foliage maybe, ivy can help create some beautiful flowing shapes. Single flower is an idea. I also think if you're trying to keep it simple that gypsophila looks a bit naff as padding in a normal bouquet but gorgeous on its own as a little cloud.

Sleepinggreyhounds · 10/01/2023 09:55

If you say the venue is dark a headtorch may be more practical (you could have it instead of a veil).

DeadbeatYoda · 10/01/2023 09:56

The very best weddings are the ones that are absolutely about the bride and groom expressing themselves authentically. Tradition is fine, creativity is awesome.

A lantern might look a bit clonky, what about pine cones

Love this idea.

Eucalyptus is also quite silvery and inexpensive. You could have that with white flowers and it would be beautiful.

Ooh yes, I was going to suggest this too!

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 10/01/2023 10:02

What colour is your dress?

A really simple bouquet of Autumn flowers (thinking deep oranges, amber, burgundy) might look absolutely lush.

I can't picture a lantern in my head that wouldn't conjure up images of am dram!

For some reason I'm getting Florence Nightingale vibes about this.

That's the first thing that came to my mind, then someone out searching for someone in a shipwreck situation on a stormy night 😂

OP you do you, essentially you can stick whatever you fancy under your arm and cruise down that aisle.

ADHDPI · 10/01/2023 10:05

I don't know why I can only picture this with smoke machine for added effect.

RenoDakota · 10/01/2023 10:09

I like it, OP. Could sort of signify a bringing of light / new life.
I am connected with the wedding industry and have seen all sorts. Anything goes, really. Whatever makes you happy and suits you is the way to go, in my opinion.

Do what you want its your wedding.
Why do you need permission?

She’s not asking for permission, she’s asking for opinion. You’re being deliberately thick just so you can be an arsehole. Your type of crappy post has been done to death on here, stop being such a bore. And why on earth do you want to be an arsehole anyway!

Bluesheep8 · 10/01/2023 10:27

For some reason I'm getting Florence Nightingale vibes about this.

Exactly this

Largethighsbadeyes · 10/01/2023 10:44

The fact that some of you think it's a nice idea has made me feel less like a crazy person so thank you for that.

If we do go down the flowers route then I'll probably go with just ivory flowers of some kind and Eucalyptus for the grey look of it.

I've been all over the place with colour schemes but think I'm sorted now on the grey/silver idea.

I really don't like the traditional autumn colours and you could say it was late summer more than autumn tbh.

I actually wanted a winter wedding but venue was full so I'm hoping for a cold September 😅

Could do a DIY bouquet with some of those decorative twigs in, that have little lights on? So you'd have that glowing effect in the dim room, and in photos have a bouquet.

Honestly it's your wedding, do whatever you feel suits you! As PP has said though, I would run your decision by your photographer in case the lights will effect your photos/video.

thewinterwitch · 10/01/2023 10:59

Only if you wear a hooded cloak and carry a shepherd's crook in the other hand.

purpledalmation · 10/01/2023 11:01

You'll look crazy.

purpledalmation · 10/01/2023 11:02

It would look very effective though if the church lights were turned right down for the walk.

ratatattatt · 10/01/2023 11:09

Have you seen The Traitors?

MisguidedGhosts · 10/01/2023 11:17

tara66 · 10/01/2023 09:04

It's a 'no' from me. Carry a single rose perhaps?

That would look stranger than a lantern.

LookItsMeAgain · 10/01/2023 11:18

@ratatattatt - I thought the same thing (see my earlier post) 😉

Notjustabrunette · 10/01/2023 11:24

My friend didn’t want flowers, she held a lovely evening bag instead. A lantern might be a bit cumbersome and swing about a bit? Maybe give it a trial run and see how it looks a feels?
you can also get cheaper flowers, my friends mum did hers using flowers from the garden.

AnchorWHAT · 10/01/2023 11:28

A couple of those large cala lillies tied with a silver / grey ribbon would look nice

Lcb123 · 10/01/2023 11:30

id ask your photographer because it might look a bit odd in the photos? But otherwise seems a good idea
