Adverts that make you want to avoid the product

I can't stand the new Zoopla adverts, they really make me cringe. That said, I won't actually stop looking at it (surely everyone already knows that that's how you can be nosey about what your neighbours are selling their houses for).

However ... I will never consider buying Daisy by Marc Jacobs, because the advert makes me want to scream. Also, my mum won't ever by Muller products because she hated one of their ads so much.

The always discreet pants advert.. where the stupid woman won't go to a concert because of her 'bulky pee pants'. Gives me the rage. Go to the doctor! How many women are just buying those and putting up with it.

Ooh cross post!

That one with the young couple who find their family home online and then go through "this is where... we brought our cat... brought home our baby... and this is where we found it". They just seem unbearably smug. I'm not even sure what it's advertising - mortgages? HSBC?

Obvs also Daisy, Daisy and A splash of the bold..

Perf with Surf!!!!!

Bluevelvetsofa · 06/02/2023 17:33

ITV X is really bad anyway. It buffers and hangs and loses the programme. They need to sort out the streaming before advertising it.

Emmamoo89 · 06/02/2023 17:34

The daisy ad is cringe but my favourite perfume

I usually skip ads but I was obliged to watch mercifully short breaks watching a series on Now and they were always for perfume and aftershave. I had to shut my eyes during the Sauvage one but the one that puzzled me the most was where the man kissed his reflection because unless you have a narcissist in your life, who is interested? And I can't even remember what it was advertising.

Every time I see the Jonny Depp advert I always think ' if you change the 'v' to a 's' you have an aftershave called Sausage'

Mollypolly2610 · 06/02/2023 23:07

The shampoo one "what a feelying"

The one with Judi Dench (confused.com I think)..I cringe when it comes on!

Me too. Watching her be a facsimile of 'M' is just embarrassing.

OriginalUsername2 · 07/02/2023 08:40

I thought “Muller” as soon as I saw the title. Yoghurt on the nose! So twee.

Calgon. Where the man with filthy nails squeezes filthy shit out of a washing machine tube.

On the beach; the one with the Christmas song and the horrid flabby boy mocking his sister as he eats an ice cream.

We Buy Any Car. Gives me an ear worm.

Anything by Care Co where they show a 38-year-old woman slipping effortlessly into a walk-in bath, being stood up by her rise-and-recline armchair, or promenading in her mobility scooter.

Any bed ad. Why no sheets? Why? And why a tray with orange juice on the bare mattress, alongside an alert terrier. Disaster waiting to happen.

Anything with fucking gender stereotyping. Domestic product? Women in a Bretagne top. Whisky? Handsome rugged man, possibly with dog.

Any of the badly dubbed imported ads like Febreze and Calgon. Again.

I used to like the WBAC adverts when they had the dancers.

The main dancer was dressed like a newsreader, sitting behind the desk.

TallulahBetty · 07/02/2023 08:43

Priddy Liddle Thing daat caam

ARRRRRRGHHHH!!!

squashyhat · 07/02/2023 09:00

A car ad currently on ITVX. Something about horsepower (cue loads of - duh - horses) and then the weirdest looking human driving off in the desert. He? She? Gives me the creeps.

OccultGnuNew · 07/02/2023 09:13

The new We Buy Any Car ads with the dancing. Why are they so happy they've just sold their car? Was it used in a crime and they're getting rid of the evidence?

It's been said before by better than me. Any company that drops the major irritant Philip Schofield and then manages to produce an advert that is even more annoying needs a new ad team.

DangerBangers · 08/01/2023 16:02

The Head&Shoulders one - "I didn't know you had dandruff.... I don't!"
Gahhhh!!!!

That one annoys me for another reason. To have and to do are two different verbs. They are mixing up the tenses as well. I know it is commonplace American usage, but it really grates on me.

MalevolentHairyEyeball · 07/02/2023 09:33

Speaking of vapid, the one for a washing tablet with some celebrity woman telling us how soft or smelly the fabric is against little Carabella’s skin.

Drives me bonkers, especially as the last line is an instruction “Always keep away from children” where I can’t help muttering “I try, but they find me again…”

Heatherjayne1972 · 07/02/2023 09:35

Adverts that tell you nothing about the product irritate me
eg barocca - I saw an ad with loggers ‘treadmilling’ logs of wood in the forest with a bear
or ages ago it was a man at work who was having his mother in law over and so needed it to ‘cope’
I’m still non the wiser about what barrocca is or why I should buy it

And don’t get me started on the corsodyl advert - odd that they don’t mention that it stains your teeth brown, tastes disgusting and you should only use it for a month!
dreadful advertising

AmoebicSquid · 07/02/2023 10:05

The Robbie Williams cat food advert. He must have been desperate!

Haha, I always say that too at the end of that advert!

swimlyn · 07/02/2023 14:08

I don’t think anyone has mentioned the gambling site adverts where they pretend they care oh so much about you visiting their sites and spending money.

Set limits, set time-out blah, blah. How about: ‘don’t come to our site’ in the first place?

The whole point of their ‘business’ is to fleece you of your cash for, in return, absolutely nothing!

Lennybenny · 08/02/2023 18:06

It's the most wonderful time of the year...no, that's a Christmas song. It irritates me every time it's on.

NewUserName2023 · 09/02/2023 08:15

ANY perfume ad. Do they really think that if I squirt meself with it that it will cause some half naked hottie to be overwhelmed by lust and launch himself at me because of how I smell? 🤔

ChipsCheeseAndBeans · 05/08/2023 23:53

I know this is an old(ish) thread but I cannot stand the three advert at the minute. All that Aaww makes me want to throw something at the telly.

bossybloss · 05/08/2023 23:55

Any advert for human food that uses animals! I can’t think of a single one though 🙀🤣

Same - I assume it's supposed to be annoying so that you remember it, but it's not achieving its aim as I have no idea what product/company it is.

I think the "we buy any car" advert is genius - who remembers it used to schofield who did their adverts 😁
