Loveliest place in the U.K.?

There have been a couple of threads recently about places that you want to get out of as quickly as possible - Newport, Stevenage, etc!
It got me thinking, which towns do live up to expectations? Where is the perfect U.K.-topia?

@buckeejit, my teen is desperate to go abroad again (we’ve been to Spain twice when she was younger) and I’ve heard Greece is meant to be beautiful but the green lushness of the UK seems hard to beat.

EssexCat · 09/01/2023 14:01

Ballycastle in NI or the villages near Barmouth in wales (not Barmouth itself - too busy for me)

Crikeyalmighty · 09/01/2023 16:47

@Towntroubadour Yep but it's lush coz it rains a lot!! Personally I find 'sun bleached' very attractive - just in a different way. Germany and France are very lush too - as is Scandinavia

I surely didn't mention Bath already? 😅

I think Cornwall takes some beating for sheer stunning beauty . St Ives, Port Issac, Mousehole , most of the coastline and The Lizard has a special atmosphere .Timeless.
I also love Snowdonia and many of the coastal villages and towns in Wales . Happy place probably Borth as we had a caravan there for 10 years .
Love going over the Menai Bridge to Anglesey . Beaumaris is so pretty and the view from a cottage we stayed on at Penmon point will always stay in my memory .could see to the great Orme.
I love most coastal places and I haven’t visited enough of them in the Uk . Haven’t explored Scotland yet at all. Live in a landlocked city and am desperate to move nearer the coast .

Right, off to get a pen and paper and make a list of places I must visit!

If it work in London then live in liss, a lovely country village in Hampshire and in the fast line to London

MonsterChopz · 01/03/2023 20:31

Glencoe is beautiful, no matter how many times I drive along the A82 through Glencoe it still takes my breath away.

For beaches the Moray Coast is fantastic

I like knutsford. Gorgeous restaurants, interior shops and clothes boutiques. It's small and only 2 streets. It's next to Tatton Park and Manchester airport. It's snobby and pretentious and footballery aswell but let's ignore that bit! The surrounding countryside isn't anything exciting but it's a nice little village. I wont live there though, as its burglar central.

Knutsford's a town, not a village. It's not 'near Tatton Park', Tatton Park's near Knutsford. And the surrounding countryside may not be 'anything exciting' - it's not the Lake District or Snowdonia - but rural Cheshire is simply gorgeous and only rivalled by Shropshire.

Unfortunately the town's been taken over by twats over the last 50 years. It used to be something special.

(brought up in Knutsford)

The Jurassic Coast

Doyouthinktheyknow · 01/03/2023 20:40

Peak District
North York Coast; Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, Staithes, Saltburn
Isle of Wight

l life in a place which is often described on MN as the bit of Sussex you should avoid but actually it’s lovely. We are sandwiched between the sea and South Downs and whilst I’d like to move to Isle of Wight, this will do for now.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/03/2023 20:42

The Howgills. Forgotten bit of gorgeousness between the Lakes and the Dales.

Buttermere and surrounds

Arisaig is out of this world.

Newcastle is great! Lots of diversity, culture, close to stunning coastline and countryside, affordable, friendly people, great places to eat...

I'm another vote for beautiful Northumberland.
