Loveliest place in the U.K.?

There have been a couple of threads recently about places that you want to get out of as quickly as possible - Newport, Stevenage, etc!
It got me thinking, which towns do live up to expectations? Where is the perfect U.K.-topia?

I’m putting some more thought into it now. I love Rye, Cambridge, Edinburgh, a tiny village called Keyhaven. But I think I’m happiest in the middle of nowhere

I’m not far from Hungerford, I have friend who lived on the same road as George Michael. Every time someone visited they would say ‘oooh, just saw George getting home/going out!’
my friend never saw him once in the years they were neighbours!

My family used to pass through Hungerford on our way to visit relatives and

every time my father used to mention the horrific mass shouting there

Opposite for me. I grew up in middle of no where and all joy sucked out of when you’re a teenager!!

Knutsford or Ludlow - very similar market towns but I just love how pretty they both are.
Just back from a lovely walk in Tatton Park followed by a glass of red in The Angel in Knutsford - perfect Sunday. We don’t live in Knutsford (I wish!) but only a 20 minute drive away.

Haselbech. I wish I could move there

@welshdaisy I was not expecting to see sleepy little Haselbech mentioned on here, or anywhere really! I totally agree. I live in one of the neighbouring villages and this area is my little slice of heaven. Northamptonshire doesn't have a great image as our towns are not very nice, but the villages can give the Cotswolds a run for its money. You're right that Market Harborough is lovely too, and although technically Leicestershire it is closer to these villages than the less desirable towns like Northampton. Perfect. Some other beautiful villages I love to drive through are Cottesbrooke, Holdenby, Coton. As previously mentioned, the Welland Valley area north of here to Rutland Water is gorgeous and so undiscovered.

Other places in the UK that I've fallen in love with include:
Bath
Criccieth (Wales) - simply wow
The area between Callander and Glencoe / Fort William
The Elan Valley in Wales - stayed there on holiday and did not expect it to be so beautiful as it isn't as touristy as Snowdonia or the Brecons

Although it appeared on the other thread for making people feel uneasy, I absolutely love the Forest of Dean. Symonds Yat is stunning.

Also had the pleasure of stumbling across Knaresborough on the way to Northumberland, that was an unexpected delight.

I bloody love the UK, we're so lucky.

We love Dedham. Such a lovely little village. Hadleigh is wonderful too. We are lucky to live close by.

We visited the Lake District in Oct and were blown away how lovely it was.

I love Dedham too @PrancerandDancer .I also love Leigh on sea, it seems like the perfect place to live. We are hoping to move there on day 🤞

Istheresomeoneatthedoor · 08/01/2023 16:20

One day

bakewellbride · 08/01/2023 16:35

Bakewell

Bakewell

Ah yes Bakewell! And the area around Matlock Bath. I once walked over to Bonsall which was absolutely beautiful.

itstoughoutthere · 08/01/2023 16:58

Those saying York, it’s gone down hill in recent years.

DH and I were just commenting how dirty it seems now along with a useless council.

It’s sad

Elodie09 · 08/01/2023 17:05

Warkworth is beautiful and also a tiny town on the south coast which is stunning and seems to just wrap its arms around you. Bliss.

Jemimapuddleduk · 08/01/2023 17:14

Staithes and runswick bay (Whitby), Tenby, Northumberland (especially near Bamburgh, Alnwick and Warkworth), Keswick, Ambleside and elterwater, Yorkshire dales, ilkley, saltaire, otley. Love Manchester for a big city, one of the best.
Also don’t mind St Albans but haven’t been for a bit.

MinnieMountain · 08/01/2023 17:18

Edale.
Certain coves in North Pembrokeshire.

Having left myself @CoffeeBoy I’d say it’s nicer to holiday than live in, but plenty of my relatives chose to stay.

Jemimapuddleduk · 08/01/2023 17:19

Oh and Bollington is beautiful

Colourinsidethelines · 08/01/2023 17:37

For me most places in Anglesey and when I was younger we stayed in a house right on the edge of Loch Fine. It was absolutely stunning.

Icequeen01 · 08/01/2023 20:21

@Istheresomeoneatthedoor I have lived in both Dedham and Leigh-on-Sea and Dedham is so much nicer.

coffeeginandkindness · 08/01/2023 20:30

That scenery in traitors was amazing
Scotland is beautiful

zestysparkles · 08/01/2023 21:04

@Tal12 how funny, I have been looking at the Surrey Hills for this year!!

CeriB82 · 08/01/2023 21:49

Eryri for me. Wales is home

buckeejit · 09/01/2023 12:22

Can't believe no one has mentioned NI yet. My town is dull & backward but decent shops & a ton of beaches I can be at in a half hour. Love the North Antrim coast so much. In laws are Yorkshire dales which is gorgeous but even the traffic there is too much for me compared to how quiet it is in comparison in NI. I love the peace

cassiatwenty · 09/01/2023 12:27

Bath 💓

knackeredcat · 09/01/2023 12:27

@buckeejit I'm originally from South Belfast and now that I don't live in NI any more I never realised what we had until I moved. Botanic Gardens, North Down Coast, Mournes, etc. are all beautiful. (I'm homesick)

Also love York, Castleton, Elie, Anstruther. Apologies for no Welsh inclusions but I'm embarrassed to say I've not visited anywhere in Wales yet 😳

cassiatwenty · 09/01/2023 12:30

@knackeredcat

but I'm embarrassed to say I've not visited anywhere in Wales yet 😳

-- me neither, also I forgot to mention Harrogate

buckeejit · 09/01/2023 12:50

@knackeredcat I remember going in my first holiday abroad-Greek islands. Was so excited for exotic lovely beaches & they were totally pants compared to what we have at home, I was so disappointed!

Epiphany2023 · 09/01/2023 13:25

So many beautiful places in this country but too many are now overcrowded with tourists.

I love the Highlands and Islands of Scotland - too many beautiful places to list.
The Seven Sisters, the disappearing Cuckmere Valley meanders and the South Downs.
The West Country, including Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bodmin (on a sunny day), the Quantocks and the beautiful coastline.
England is full of beautiful character villages that we need to protect from mass over-development.
