I found her facebook profile (no, I won't post a link) from photos she has at least one older child, and is also following a page called "social services exposed" which posts some rather unhinged content.

I would assume that there has been prior SS involvement and a child removed, and now she's leaving the country fearing removal at birth.

French media seem to have this idea that in the U.K. social services will remove children at the drop of a hat. There was a French documentary about a group of French people helping English women who were pregnant and had SS involvement get to France before the baby was born and taken away.
I wonder if this is the case with them. SS are likely to take the baby away at birth so they were trying to run to France. Perhaps she was close to giving birth and, as a suggested up thread, there was a sign of this in the car.

If anything I don't think babies are removed easily enough. Often a great deal of damage is done by the time they are eventually removed. We all know that some people are terrible parents because of the cases that make the news of abusive and murderous step parents or parents.
I dont think other countries need to worry that babies are being snatched from good or even adequate parents for no reason. Maybe the children that they are trying to protect from being "snatched " will end up with a much worse life because of their efforts

Maybe they were trying to get to Harwich to start with and ended up in Horwich, Bolton instead.

That’s very possible as the junction they left the motorway at is signposted for Horwich.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/01/2023 00:07

Really sad all round. Thee must be a very serious reason for concern and there is a newborn baby, who hasn’t been checked over by a midwife.

RJnomore1 · 08/01/2023 00:14

Whatever is going on I cannot imagine how scared she must be to do this and I hope the baby is healthy.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 07/01/2023 23:43

@SpinningFloppa can you recall the name of the documentary? Sounds interesting

No sorry I don’t it was a really long time ago but it was following a couple with learning difficulties who had their daughter taken away and they was fighting to get her back, lots in there about how ss are quick to take children and it mentioned about other parents fleeing to countries in Europe as they don’t force adoption the way they do in the U.K. was about 10 years ago now I’ve done a search but can’t find it, the father was fighting tirelessly to get his daughter back, it was very sad.

I agree. So many kids' lives are fucked before they even get to primary school, because of who they're born to. They get through primary, but when hormones meet trauma meet secondary school: boom. Ok, it's not great to be in care. But fuck me, it's better than some of the biological families kids are forced to endure.

Wetblanket78 · 08/01/2023 00:42

Most likely SS are involved. They may have had a previous child or children taken by them. They have probably been seen on CCTV with the baby or noticed she no longer has a bump. But they both need medical attention. That in itself is child neglect for ss to take action.

senior30 · 08/01/2023 01:10

some people will take drastic measures to evade SS, I hope that baby can be found and kept safe.

NewMeFor2023 · 08/01/2023 02:38

I work in an area where we get notifications like this. Normally only shared with HCPs to keep a look out. It must be a serious situation for this to be sent out to the media.

As PP have said, there may have been pre-birth child protection conferences held during the pregnancy and a plan decided which the parents did not agree with and are seeking to avoid.

JudgeRudy · 08/01/2023 02:47

Well if there's recent photographic evidence of her looking 🤰 and now she doesn't....

Whotsit · 08/01/2023 03:13

Who knows the situation? Maybe she is a vulnerable adult and he’s coercive? If she’s gone missing before it’s likely the police will have photos.

Simonjt · 08/01/2023 03:30

There will be SS involvement, it isn’t common for people to move and go into hiding during SS proceedings.

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/01/2023 04:37

From the report linked to I would say the issue is the father due to the direct appeal to the mother to contact the authorities. Almost sounds as though the car was deliberately torched. There's a photo of her wrapped in a shawl obviously wearing the baby in a sling.

steff13 · 08/01/2023 06:11

I don't know what you all consider appropriate for sharing but there's a thread with some interesting information on this couple over on websleuths.

Redebs · 08/01/2023 06:16

Sounds like some serious mental health problems. I hope they are all found safe and well

Snowmoab · 08/01/2023 06:18

The photos on the article were provided by the police so one would assume there's been prior involvement.

MamaBear1022 · 08/01/2023 06:25

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 07/01/2023 23:46

There a TikTok account of a mum who left the UK to avoid social care (maybe called something like mum on the run). Can’t remembered where she went but she has obviously been successful in keeping her child with her abroad.

I've seen this. She went to turkey by the looks of things and is now dating a Turkish man. She tells her followers how she's fulfilled by caring for her man and cooking and cleaning for him. Sounds like she's in another abusive relationship but is trying to make out all is amazing!

Beexo · 08/01/2023 06:39

Sounds like they have had a previous child removed so she has concealed the pregnancy. They might end up going abroad if they can get passage, now we aren't in the EU it's much more tricky.

Thanks, yeah some interesting bits on there. Hope they're found safe and well.

freezingpompoms · 08/01/2023 06:50

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 07/01/2023 23:06

Why would SS be involved already if the baby has only just been born though? Drugs? Or previous children already in care? Or the father being a danger?

Whatever it is I hope the baby is safe and they find them soon.

Maybe there have been other children born to either the mother or father before this baby that have been removed or injured or neglected.

Zonder · 08/01/2023 06:53

It's crazy to think social services take kids away at the drop of a hat. Where on earth would they put these kids for a start?
They don't have places to put kids at risk.

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/01/2023 06:57

Sounds like social services were preparing to take the baby so they've gone on the run to avoid this. Because council's rarely work together, it's easy to avoid social services if you move areas.

Getinajollymood · 08/01/2023 07:01

I am a little haunted by the baby murdered by the woman who wanted to adopt him (convicted last year.)

Interviews with his birth mother didn’t suggest she was a danger, and she was single at the time of his birth. Grounds for removal seemed to be that her past relationships had been violent. She was being supported by a fairly reputable charity at the time of her child’s birth and they (and she) had the impression she was keeping her baby.

I’m no longer sure that SS only remove in the most extreme of cases, I must admit, and I am certainly not someone prone to extreme views on anything.

Amanteani · 08/01/2023 07:09

My very first thought (longstanding social work manager) was that they are fleeing the country because the whole CP system and the family court is involved and the CP plan was to remove the baby at birth. Whatever some people may think, a decision like that is only taken in the most serious cases of all. I think they may have been originally heading for Eire but have had to switch to a totally different port. Spain is often the next choice after Eire.
