ok so this is a wedding song really
I choose you
but these lyrics hit the spot

You're my always You're my forever You're my reality

You're my sunshine You're my best times You're my anomaly

And I'd choose you
In a hundred lifetimes I'd choose you
In a hundred worlds I'd find Y ou...

Ooh @BasiliskStare, I saw the thread title and immediately thought of Temptation too. It always makes me think of my DS, who had bright blue eyes when he was a baby and toddler which then turned grey and finally ended up green. He’s also autistic and delightfully quirky so the next line of “I’ve never met quite like you before” also fits.

You'll be in my heart by Phil Collins

Come stop your crying
It will be alright
Just take my hand
Hold it tight
I will protect you
From all around you
I will be here
Don't you cry
For one so small
You seem so strong
My arms will hold you
Keep you safe and warm
This bond between us
Can't be broken
I will be here don't you cry
'Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart
Always

😢😢😢😢😢

Quite a few songs remind me of DD, but the one that always really gets me in the feels is Greatest Day by Take That. As we got into the car on a very cold morning to go to the hospital and have our much longed for baby by elective CS, DH turned on the radio just as Gary Barlow sang, 'today this could be, the greatest day of our lives...' Couldn't have heard anything more apt!

OMG. I read this and then had to check I hadn't accidentally opened a zombie thread that is already posted on! The exact same thing happened to me!

I also remember Rule The World was playing the first time I took her out in the car in my own

She's 14 now and rolls her eyes every time I remind her that these 2 tracks are 'our songs'

‘He’s My Boy’ from the Everybody’s Talking About Jamie soundtrack makes me sob every time. Discovered it during the time DS was finishing primary school and it really resonated because it fell like such a big step towards independence!

‘He's my boy
And boys always grow
He's my boy
And boys always go
He's my boy

He's blinded and so floating minded
He's clueless and clever
Confusing, whatever
But oh boy

He's my voice
He's my chance
He's my smile
He's my day
He's my life
He's my pain
He's my joy…’

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 07/01/2023 21:53

@Gazelda - snap! We love Rule The World too, and my DD is also 14! 😊

Couldn’t be bothered to type out 🙈you really need to listen…beautiful, dreamy piano etc…Nelly furtado-Childhood dreams. I have a Dd, but it still resonates with me. We waited for 10 years for Dd with many losses along the way

Lyrics that make you think of your children ?
gfy · 07/01/2023 21:55

"The best day" by Taylor swift makes me think of my children or rather I hope it makes them think of me one day

RedPandaFluff · 07/01/2023 22:16

Not the whole song, just the chorus, but Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time had me howling in the car when I was pregnant with DD. I think it's because it's what I want to be for her - to be her constant, to catch her if she falls . . .

"If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
Time after time"

RedPandaFluff · 07/01/2023 22:18

Oh also a line from an Alanis Morrissette song - "my mission is to keep the light in your eyes ablaze" . . . YESSS!

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack 💕

When DD was born the song on the radio was Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee. I remember looking down at her tiny fingers around mine, the agony of the last few hours finally finished after that really primal experience, and there she was- and the words I heard just seemed so perfect:

I'm not denyin'
We're flying above it all
Hold my hand, don't let me fall
You've such amazing grace
I've never felt this way…

anythinginapinch · 07/01/2023 22:27

There goes my life. It's a country song I can only listen to it once a decade.

Charley50 · 07/01/2023 22:30

When DS was tiny 'if you want me to stay uh-oh' song was out... (Uh-oh, Lumidee). I used to carry him around singing it to him, so it now reminds me of him when he was tiny.

Bit of a weird one but The Whole of The Moon by The Waterboys. My teenage DD sees the world in technicolor and I am in awe of her, she is a force of nature.

I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hands
I had flashes
But you saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

You were there at the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon

I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truths
You cut through lies
I saw the rain-dirty valley
You saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon

I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered, I guessed and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
But you swooned
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

With a torch in your pocket
And the wind at your heels
You climbed on the ladder
And you know how it feels
To get too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

Unicorns and cannonballs
Palaces and piers
Trumpets, towers, and tenements
Wide oceans full of tears
Flags, rags, ferry boats
Scimitars and scarves
Every precious dream and vision
Underneath the stars

Yes, you climbed on the ladder
With the wind in your sails
You came like a comet
Blazing your trail
Too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon

"I'll keep you safe" by Sleeping At Last

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/01/2023 23:22

DS - Ho hey, Lumineers
I belong with you, you belong with me
You're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me
You're my sweet

DD1 - She's a rainbow, Rolling Stones
She comes in colours everywhere
She combs her hair
She's a rainbow
Coming colours in the air
Oh everywhere
She comes in colours

DD2 - Hold my girl, George Ezra
I've got time, I've got love
I've got confidence you'll rise above
Give me a minute to hold my girl
Give me a minute to hold my girl
Crowded town, silent bed
Pick a place to rest your head
Give me a minute to hold my girl
Give me a minute to hold my girl

Arcade Fire, The Suburbs (Con't)

So can you understand
Why I want a daughter while I'm still young?
I want to hold her hand
And show her some beauty
Before this damage is done
But if it's too much to ask
If it's too much to ask
Then send me a son

I used to listen to it when I was single and dreamed of a family, but starting to lose faith. In the end I got both - but I hum the song most while looking at my beautiful little daughter and still unable to believe my luck.

I love that song.

when they play live, he sings “send me a perfect son” which makes me think about my son.

also “when we try to name our babies, we’ve forgotten all the names we used to know”

Another one by Arcade Fire - Unconditional. Love The Whole of the moon too

Abba's "Slipping Through My Fingers". She's singing about her DD growing up and slipping away from her. I first heard it in the film Mama Mia. The line "school bag in hand" makes me cry every time. DD is 21 now and it's all gone so quickly.

Yes, agree. This song gets me every time.

The Mother by Brandi Carlile made me cry so much when I first heard it and will always make me think of DS and the ups and downs of parenthood.

The first things that she took from me were selfishness and sleep
She broke a thousand heirlooms I was never meant to keep
She filled my life with color, cancelled plans and trashed my car
But none of that is ever who we are

Outside of my windows are the mountains and the snow
I hold you while you're sleeping and I wish that I could go
All my rowdy friends around accomplishing their dreams
But I am the mother of Evangeline

They've still got their morning paper and their coffee and their time
They still enjoy their evenings with the skeptics and their wine
Oh but all the wonders I have seen I will see a second time
From inside of the ages through your eyes

You were not an accident where no one thought it through
The world has stood against us, made us mean to fight for you
And when we chose your name we knew that you'd fight the power, too

You're nothing short of magical and beautiful to me
I would never hit the big time without you
So they can keep their treasure and their ties to the machine
Cause I am the mother of Evangeline

Never heard this one before, but the lyrics are beautiful. Especially the line 'I am the mother of Evangeline'. Motherhood is not valued as much as having a career or other riches, but the song reminds us that being a mum is something to be treasured. Thanks for this @EnglishGirlApproximately I will look up the song.

Yellow

Your skin and bone turned into something beautiful
You know for you I'd bleed myself dry

Your song Elton John

Forever young Bob Dylan

Bunchamunchacarrots · 08/01/2023 00:41

For you, I'd need myself dry

I remember singing Yellow to tiny DD the first night in the hospital.

Also, the theme from Adventure Time: all of my collections, I'll share them all with you.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 08/01/2023 01:06

@starray it's a song that I relate to so much. I hope you enjoy it 🙂
