I can't read the thread as I'll cry. But, DD2 "To Love somebody" by the bee gees, not the whole song but just the lines "you don't know what it's like, to love somebody the way I love you." I heard it on the radio not long after she came out of NICU and danced around the room with her. She was born after many difficulties and we used a donor egg to conceive her and I was worried I wouldn't love her and then I was worried she would die. And then I realised just how much I loved her and how I'd go through it all again.

DD1 is my Abba Dancing Queen, maybe not so deep and meaningful but she's always loved to dance so I've always sung it to her.

Not so much now I have grown teenagers but certainly when they were wee.

After DD was born I was sitting in the wheelchair in the delivery suite waiting to be taken to the maternity ward. The radio was on in the background and I gazed down at my new little DD and got that first rush of love (took a lot longer with my eldest 2 - traumatic births and this was the first one that went to plan) and I just felt like I’d known her forever and had a sort of oh its you! I was waiting for you moment. I’d been in labour all night and now she was here I was so happy. The song in the background was Adele ‘when we were young’ and the lyrics ‘I’ve been by myself all night long hoping you’re someone I used to know.’ And everything just felt so right. I always think of my little DD when I hear that song now.

When my eldest DS was born we had to spend a week in hospital. The ward played Magic Radio on repeat and one of the songs played was "Close to You" by the Carpenters. He is a beautiful, dream of a boy and this is still our song which makes me cry every time I hear it (he is 13 now and finds it a bit cringe I'm sure):

I used to listen to it when I was single and dreamed of a family, but starting to lose faith. In the end I got both - but I hum the song most while looking at my beautiful little daughter and still unable to believe my luck.

Ditto. Was also going through a really tough time at the time too.

I had a really really weird experience once and I'm not at all woo but it totally freaked me out. I was drying DS1 after his bath, he was probably about 18 months old (he is 19 now) and was on my knee in a towel. I was struck by an urge to sing "You are my sunshine" to him, and I swear, as I was singing it to him, rocking him on my knee, suddenly out of nowhere I had the oddest sensation of it being wartime and the "please don't take my sunshine away" part making me think of him being a young man going off to war and not knowing if he'd return, and the words being so important to me. And the oddest thing about it was his little face suddenly crumpling and saying "Mum!" in a really worried little voice, and he started crying. It was like the freakiest "past life" experience, like we'd had this close mother-son relationship before but in a different era and he was a different age.

I have never told anyone this as it's a bit embarrassing, isn't it, really. I consider myself to be an intelligent person (menopause brain allowed for!) It was probably all coincidence. Maybe it was because we both enjoyed the book Peepo at the time, which seems to be set in wartime. Maybe it's because our house is a 1930s house and I often used to think how strange it was that whoever lived in the house then lived through the war and I wondered what it must have been like.

But it was his reaction which freaked me out most, and really upset me afterwards. For some reason I couldn't stop feeling like this was a "memory" I had of having an 18-19 year old son called up to fight in the second world war and getting the news that he'd been killed in action and him wanting me in his last moments.

I still can't hear that song now without thinking of that freaky experience. It's so upsetting.
