Exactly. It is possible to read the serious news, and worry about the cost of living and NHS crisis, and also enjoy a bit of tattle about a family we see on telly all the time. People have always resented the royal family for the very notion that they're better than the rest of us, and that's why their self made misfortunes are particularly delicious. It's been this way for hundreds of years.

This is a thread about the media not the RF. The media are largely responsible for determining what we do and don’t hear. To get away from that or to have a broader perspective you really need to make some effort.

I personally feel reporting of the iGAS strep A outbreak has been disgraceful. Complete sensationalism with no real useful public information.

Not everything has to be 24 doom. I know some prefer it but it’s popular exactly because it’s gossip and people are enjoying talking about it

It’s too much! I am not interested in this over privileged family. It’s like the royal version of EastEnders! The endless drama and just how horrible they can be to each other, is too much.

Surely this is the time to get rid of the monarchy! None of them are serving the country in any meaningful way and not a penny more, of public money, should be spent on them.

For much the same reason that we have soap operas on prime time TV, I imagine.

And, yes, they're an absolute gift to our corrupt and inept government.

They're all over the Guardian and Times as well. There's no bloody escape. I think the only thing one can feasibly do is turn off the internet, TV and radio.

They are all wealthy beyond the average persons dreams, yet far from being happy and leading carefree lives their dirty washing is being aired, whether some or all of it is true and the public are interested, some fascinated by it all.
