TV has always been rubbish at Christmas but this year has definitely been the worst! Alot of the programmes have been depression!

Even the soaps have been seriously crap!

What happened to the usual big storylines?

Couldn't think of anything worse than travelling home from London after watching the nye fireworks

We lived there a few years ago and the first year we lived there I got pregnant so we went to watch them that year. Not that close, we were around Trafalgar Square but trying to get back with my 7 month pregnant belly was a bit stressful. It was good though.

Meltinthemiddle · 01/01/2023 00:19

Mel c looks really good!

Holshicup · 01/01/2023 00:19

Sam Ryder has managed to end a rubbish day /year with a smile for me, very unexpected!
Happy new year everyone!

Waiting for Big Jet TV live at Heathrow, 9pm,YouTube!

Thank you so much for posting this, @Ryder68 . I am a member, but didn't know this was happening. Seeing the whole South London skyline lit up was amazing. I also enjoyed seeing the last planes out of and into Heathrow, while also tracking them on FlightRadar Grin

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2023 00:21

She looks good but quite awkward. She's leaning over funny

U1sce · 01/01/2023 00:21

Honeyroar · 01/01/2023 00:25

Crikeyalmighty · 01/01/2023 00:28

@MrsJackGrealish Class!!! A perennial favourite of mine

Meltinthemiddle · 01/01/2023 00:29

Sam Ryder could totally play Jesus!

PolkaDotMankini · 01/01/2023 00:30

I pre-napped earlier in the evening and apparently told DH that Princess Beatrice would be there with Sam Ryder. Kinda sad she wasn't.

My husband is a huge fan of Big Jet TV. Sadly, he’s asleep!

extrasushiplease · 01/01/2023 00:31

I'm a big nerd about physical media, so I have the Blu-ray of 200 Cigarettes on. First scene is Dave Chappelle driving around Paul Rudd and Courtney Love in a taxi. Everyone is in this movie!

Frenulumetta · 01/01/2023 00:31

Watched some ancient Billy connolly documentary on w or some crap station what a lovely wise man he is warmed my heart just the right thing to start the new year with nice people spouting words of wisdom

BadNomad · 01/01/2023 00:39

I'm sitting, wondering how much money was spent (wasted?) on putting on that massive fireworks display in London.

Enough to feed and house the many homeless people within a 10 mile radius of the eye I expect.

Just watching Sam Ryder, so far he's rocking my socks

Watching Sam here too... He's an amazing talent and done such a wide range of songs.

Enjoyed him rocking out with Justin Hawkins 🤘🏼

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 01/01/2023 00:55

Nobody looks bothered about auld lange syne

To be fair, that was an utterly appalling version - far too fast, when it's supposed to give you time to pause to reflect on the changing year. It sounded like they got it off a Jive Bunny mixtape!

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show, made my evening. I hope he becomes a tradition for New Year

Happy New Year

lollipoprainbow · 01/01/2023 01:09

Sam was wonderful he should do every year and earlier !

RoseMartha · 01/01/2023 01:15

I got fed up of tv and turned it off about half eight and treated myself to a soak in the bath and read a book.
My teens ended up watching rubbish on you tube from about half ten.
Asked me not to share the tv with them as I offered to watch a film on netflix and they said they had no interest in when it turned midnight so not to bother saying happy new year.
They are in bed now though.

Bogartysmack79 · 01/01/2023 01:17

Dvds (ie physical media) help heal the pain of paying for a TV license!

LemongrassLollipop · 01/01/2023 01:23

@Purplebunnie Definitely bring him back next year. I was wondering how do people get tickets for that... Presume must be some exclusive list/ballot?

Happy new year to you🥳

The big, big difference I've noticed between Sam and artists from previous years is that they've usually been using it as an opportunity to showcase themselves, increase their public profile and use it as an 'us and them' performance.

Sam, on the other hand, so clearly just wanted to lead everybody in a banging party spirit, with no personal agenda. I'm sure I remember reading/seeing him saying that he wanted as many people as possible to have a cracking time, hence the choice of such an eclectic range of well-known songs.

Makes a massive difference from somebody just wanting to promote their new material that nobody knows to be able to sing along to and themselves.

I also greatly respect stars who individually introduce (by name) and pay tribute to the talents of the people in the band and their backing singers. I mean in a genuine 'we're a team and these folk are amazing' way - as Sam did - rather than a vibe of 'these little people are here to serve me but I probably ought to briefly mention them'. It's the popstar equivalent of being kind to waiters and waitresses.
