London appointment on 3rd Jan - no trains. No way round it?

MulledWineAndMingePies · 27/12/2022 11:28

We have been waiting for this appointment for about 6 years.
It's a huge huge, life changing, potentially life saving appointment and I've just seen there is train strikes on that day.

Im trying to figure out coaches or buses but and I'm searching and Googling but getting no answers.

Can anyone help? It's Brighton to London waterloo, or specifically St Thomas hospital.

Are there coach replacements or is that not ok because that's usually provided by the rail isn't it?
I can't believe our bloody luck

It's not really a Cancel the Cheque situation though, because the OP wasn't actually reading what the people trying to help were saying 😂

bellac11 · 27/12/2022 12:09

Also dont do things like this on phones, its really difficult. I always use my laptop when booking things or online banking type things

Oh lordy. This is like when my parents phone me and ask questions about the Interwebs.

There are screenshots, explanations, links, kind suggestions and gentle nudges throughout this thread op.

Links didn't work.

Explaining the Brighton coach didnt work.

Saying London. Brighton didn't work.

FINALLY the the most recent posts saying about Victoria coach station DID work

Yes @MulledWineAndMingePies I have tried and THEY ALL WORK!

I'm wondering if you're actually on the wind-up here. So many people trying to help you and you seem to be wilfully ignoring them.

My advice would be to travel the day before and stay in a travelodge (plenty about), or premier inn.
If the appointment is important, go by coach.

Did you not RTFT?

We have been waiting for this appointment for about 6 years.

It's a huge huge, life changing, potentially life saving appointment and I've just seen there is train strikes on that day.

Then definitely don't leave it till the day of the appointment to travel - I would travel up the day before so at least you know you can get to the appointment without fail.

For a life-changing/life-saving appointment, I definitely wouldn't care about potentially being stuck in London for a couple of days - the priority is the appointment itself, surely?

If you can't find a coach, I would call the hospital transport office/patient liaison team and see if they can suggest anything if you're struggling to find a way to get there - they might not be able to help, but you won't know if you don't try.

Sisisimone · 27/12/2022 12:10

This has to be a wind up 🤣

My OH is a bit like this, he doesnt read things properly, isnt very intuitive, uses all the wrong search terms.

Hospital staff don't have time to talk OP through how to book a bloody coach Hmm

Clymene · 27/12/2022 12:12

It does take you to an empty page, sorry about that. But no, you didn't figure it out. You finally listened to what people were saying.

Good luck with the appointment

You mean after you ignored/wound everyone up by ignoring that suggestion the first 50 times Hmm

Can you hire a car?

Any scope to bung a neighbour or friend some cash to drive you there and back

YukoandHiro · 27/12/2022 12:13

Do you have a car? If so, drive. The traffic won't be bad on the 3rd and the parking is excellent. We live in London and often drive our 5yo to her appts there as it's a long commute for her otherwise

Why would OP struggle to get across London? The tube isn't on strike, nor are buses or taxis. Usually on rail strike days getting around London is easy because people have stayed at home!

Yeah, just realised I read an article from a while back that was incorrectly saying tube strike too.

Blimey what a victim. If you feel like a cunt thats on you!!! No one here, least of all me has 'made' you feel like that

What a joker

ConnieSaks · 27/12/2022 12:17

It is likely there will be some trains running but that is fraught as they are subject to cancelation / changes at short notice. If you still have difficulties booking a coach ticket, I would also think going up the night before and staying at a nearby hotel is the best idea. Particularly as this could be life changing 💐

Ch3wylemon · 27/12/2022 12:18

OP this sounds stressful for you and I hope the appointment goes well for you.

Lots of people have provided links and helpful advice. If you are still struggling could you ask someone close for help or try a different device?

FrownedUpon · 27/12/2022 12:20

I do wonder how some people manage day to day life without constant hand holding. Hire a car, book a coach or taxi. It’s really not difficult.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/12/2022 12:21

Having been in a similar position in the last strikes - hire a car.

Its not as expensive as i thought and it’s well worth it for important appointments

catandcoffee · 27/12/2022 12:21

OP have you managed to book coach tickets good luck with the appointment

HowVeryLikeSibella · 27/12/2022 12:22

I think driving all the way in on a strike day would be pretty grim. Morden tube is far more achievable (though I'm not sure where you'd park if you were driving yourself).

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/12/2022 12:23

@MulledWineAndMingePies Perhaps mentioning earlier on that there's a reason you struggle with things like this would have been an idea, because without that knowledge your responses have been quite frustrating for those of us trying to help.

Hope you're sorted now anyway.

MichaelFabricantWig · 27/12/2022 12:25
