London appointment on 3rd Jan - no trains. No way round it?

We have been waiting for this appointment for about 6 years.
It's a huge huge, life changing, potentially life saving appointment and I've just seen there is train strikes on that day.

Im trying to figure out coaches or buses but and I'm searching and Googling but getting no answers.

Can anyone help? It's Brighton to London waterloo, or specifically St Thomas hospital.

Are there coach replacements or is that not ok because that's usually provided by the rail isn't it?
I can't believe our bloody luck

It literally says Brighton Pool Valley Coach Station though?? Choose that and then London (most popular) in next bit and lots come up.

Clymene · 27/12/2022 12:03

THE NAME OF THE MAIN COACH STATION IN BRIGHTON IS POOL VALLEY

It does - the screen shot you shared shows Pool Valley as the top option.

Yes.

and as shown above, when I put that as the start and Victoria as the end. It comes up with nothing.

OP, why are you ignoring all the posters explaining that Pool Valley IS Brighton coach station?

DappledThings · 27/12/2022 12:03

It's your end point that's the issue. In your screen shot you chose Victoria rail station. You need the coach station.

BIWI · 27/12/2022 12:03

... or ignoring the links which have already been posted Hmm

What is your point?

Because you are putting Victoria RAIL station in as the destination. If you enter just London Victoria COACH station is the first drop down option to select.

QueSyrahSyrah · 27/12/2022 12:04

Victoria COACH station OP. Not rail station.

The coaches go in to Victoria Coach Station, you might struggle to get across London. For something so important I’d stay the night before near the hospital and get a coach back.

Why would OP struggle to get across London? The tube isn't on strike, nor are buses or taxis. Usually on rail strike days getting around London is easy because people have stayed at home!

HowVeryLikeSibella · 27/12/2022 12:04

This is what you need if you want to do coaches (though personally I wouldn't)

I KNOW IT IS.

It didn't work. Then I was told it's because I didn't put "Brighton coat station"

Change your destination to Victoria coach station?

inventinglouise · 27/12/2022 12:05

Put Victoria Coach Station and while you're there, cancel the cheque

Victoria to Waterloo is less than 30 mins walk if you’re physically fit, or a short bus/cab/tube journey.

givethistokevin · 27/12/2022 12:06

Oh I see you can drive, can you not hire a car?

OP posts:
Housenoob · 27/12/2022 12:06

Hey OP no offense but is there anyone a bit more tech savvy who can help you book the tickets? I have literally just gone on the National express website and had a very quick look and there's a bazillion ticket options available on that date.

Just start typing Brighton in the first box and select the generic option that says Brighton coach station. Then in the destination start typing London and select the generic London option, it's the first one that comes up. It's really not hard!

Oh lordy. This is like when my parents phone me and ask questions about the Interwebs.

There are screenshots, explanations, links, kind suggestions and gentle nudges throughout this thread op.

Have you tried clicking on the links posted? They don't work. 🤨

Hire a car? Ours broke day before Xmas eve and we one through practical car and van hire. Or try a zip car? I think Brighton has those.

milveycrohn · 27/12/2022 12:07

My advice would be to travel the day before and stay in a travelodge (plenty about), or premier inn.
If the appointment is important, go by coach.

givethistokevin · 27/12/2022 12:07

I appreciate how frustrating it is when it's not working for you but others can do it though. I gat the absolute rage at my new dishwasher once because I wouldn't figure out how to set the program Blush
