WhatsApp nonsense from friend

NC
My friend is WhatsApp obsessed
If she messages you but you go online and don't read it then she gets peed off
If you read it but don't reply for hours then she gets peed off
She sends a shitty one word reply to indicate she's peed off
She checks peoples last seen. If you turn this function off then she gets peed off.
I find myself turning on airplane mode on my phone, checking my WhatsApp from other friends & family, then turning airplane mode off. That way she can't see I have been online.
I'm just getting fed up with it tbh. I feel like I need to be glued to my phone to keep up with her messages & expectations. Am I being a cow ?

this is exhausting and you are letting your "friend" dictate how you stay in touch with people.

Use WhatsApp how you like, and if she says one word tell her that's enough and she will be blocked if she acts like a twat again. and do it.

I turned off last seen a few months ago and it's great.
I used to hate WhatsApp as I found it intrusive but I've got all sorts of things in place now, notifications switched off, certain contacts blocked, last seen off, remove myself from groups I don't want to be in etc.
You are in control of it. If someone else doesn't like your settings that's their problem.
I'd just tell her that you can't reply to her all the time because you are busy and don't want to be constantly glued to the phone. If she gets peed off tough. If she gets peed off because you changed the settings tough. If she wants to "end the friendship" because of it, that's up to her.

I wouldn’t change a single setting.

Use WhatsApp as you like to use it.

Don’t let this woman dictate your life. If she says anything, tell her she needs to back off and stop trying to control other people.

I’d suggest taking a step back from her anyway as she sounds very difficult.

My 14 year old behaves like this 😀

I think some of the messages here are a bit harsh, though I agree the important thing is (a) to use your phone the way you like, without having to modify settings, and (b) communicate with this friend.

If she's otherwise a friend who you would like to hold on to, I would explain to her nicely but assertively. My usual go-to response is that I use Whatsapp like voicemail. so I might see the message but not reply right away. I WILL eventually reply, depends on what I have going on. She should not take this as a reflection on your friendship.

After this, if still acts stroppy, ignore. If she is not mature enough to handle this, she herself will break off the friendship.
