I’ve just woken up and had one of my new coffees. Still in my PJ’s browsing mumsnet.

DS is awake and in his room playing his new Xbox game.

Planning a lazy morning, a walk this afternoon and then to my mums for games and leftovers.

I think I prefer Boxing Day to Christmas Day, it’s much more relaxed.

We’re having smoked salmon bagels for breakfast with a cafetière of coffee (needed ).

The over time family for chips, Turkey, chutney and cheese.

Will take the DC for a walk after lunch to get them moving and then we’ll go home to chill out, play some games, have a bubble bath and watch a family movie with some buffet type nibbles.

thehistorymum · 26/12/2022 09:18

In law’s coming for a party food buffet!

Currently lying on the couch eating a chocolate orange watching EastEnders

Currently lying on the sofa sipping lemsip surrounded by tissues as I have the lurgy. DC are at their dads so I’m on my own feeling a bit lost. Forgot to buy myself any yummy food for yesterday so had a ham and cranberry sauce for tea, need to drag myself to Tesco for more sustenance but can’t quite be bothered.

KaleToChristmas · 26/12/2022 09:24

Like you, lying in bed drinking coffee and on Mumsnet.

I will get up in a bit, go for a short walk and then sort out my spare room, where I have started a clearout and then shut the door on the massive mess I created. Not very Christmassy but I am single with no kids and no obligations today! It will be satisfying to put on some Christmas music and get it done.

Then later to family for Boxing Day tea. This evening will be telly and maybe a bath.

It's been a nice relaxed Christmas. The first one since 2019 not blighted by Covid, for which I am very grateful indeed. This time last year I couldn't even walk because I was so ill. The year before that we were in Tier 4 and had to spend it alone. This one has been so much better already!

mamaduckbone · 26/12/2022 09:25

We're staying at SIL's and I'm still in bed relaxing at the moment. Dh has gone to make tea, ds13 has been chatting to us and looking at his Christmas presents, all the older teenagers (ds17 and cousins) are asleep.
Big beach walk today when everyone surfaces, then more eating, drinking and games.
I love Boxing Day- it's so much less frantic.

Snowdropsarelovely · 26/12/2022 09:25

Going to husband's uncles house – absolutely dreading it because our relationship is really bad and in the past I've heard them bitching about me behind my back. I get on absolutely fine with my mother and father-in-law, it's not them. It's just the rest of that side of the family! Currently trying to get myself out of bed and do something productive until about 3 pm when we will go there

MarcelEtCeleste · 26/12/2022 09:27

I had 3 hours sleep on Christmas Eve and a long day cooking and hosting yesterday, but, frustratingly, found I couldn’t get to sleep last night either - clearly wired! Everyone is still in bed and the cat’s feeling cuddly, so I’m lying-in and making the most of it. Could murder a cuppa though!

Whilst I do love Christmas and the build up to it, I love Boxing Day because the pressure is off and I feel I can relax. We’ll have a lazy morning with our new gifts and books etc. then we’re off to the pantomime this afternoon. We do this every year on Boxing Day and really enjoy it.

It may sound mad but later on this evening I’m going to plan next year’s Christmas. I like to note down a few improvements to make, things I need to buy (gift tags and new paper scissors this year), gift ideas (which I seem to be brimming with post-Christmas but struggle with in the run-up as I’m so busy trying to finish work and prep everything else). My kids are also now pre-teen, and so the focus of Christmas is changing a bit and I need to modify our routine/traditions accordingly.

They still loved snuggling up in bed for our annual reading of Mogs’s Christmas and A Visit from Saint Nicholas though, which was fun!

Hope all of those having a delayed or second Christmas with family have a lovely day.

TenoringBehind · 26/12/2022 09:28

Still in bed but about to get up.

pancakes for breakfast
dog walk
quick whizz arid with the vacuum cleaner
lazy afternoon and evening of reading, jigsaw, watching tv

Battlecat98 · 26/12/2022 09:34

Well I was due to do our Christmas day today but my mum ended up in hospital yesterday 😔. I feel like I can't be bothered now, I had lovely Christmas cocktails planned and of course a full Christmas dinner and starters. Just won't be the same with us and my father in law. I was really looking forward to it.

Funkyslippers · 26/12/2022 09:36

Lazing around at the moment, OH is making me a bacon sandwich. Kids asleep. Bodypump at gym this morning then leftover Christmas dinner. OH out all afternoon so us girls will chill at home then going to see Matilda at the cinema early evening, then home for more Christmas food and drink

I hope your mum is ok, could everything be frozen and delayed a few days? X

It's my birthday today and I had a lovely lie in. DD11 will be back from her dad's mid morn. She went there yesterday eve.

I've just had coffee and need to tidy up the carnage from yesterday.

Might go out for lunch with DD today or might not depending on how she feels. Yesterday was a busy day and she's off to her grandparents for a couple of nights tomorrow so she may just want a lazy day. We can get something delivered if she doesn't want to go out.

PopsicleHustler · 26/12/2022 09:39

Hoping i go in to labour!!!!!! With baby number 6!!!!!! Yayyyyy

Other than that, working from my bed and have just given my eldest kids a job list (kid one- put a wash on, tidy and hoover lounge, wash up cereal bowls, polish lounge. Kid 2, clean worktops and mop kitchen, tidy toy corner and book shelf and and wash the shower- kid 3 hoover the stairs and dust pan and brush bathroom.and kitchen, fold away pants and ball up socks, that sort of thing), incase I do decide to have a homebirth, and have the house sparkling clean, ready for midwife coming and new baby. I struggle and i cant clean with my hernia and my back anymore and being heavily, ready to pop pregnant. They can win chocolate and PlayStation if they have done a good job! I know they will. They're good kids and love to help me.

We don't celebrate Christmas due to our religion, so just a chilled day. After we have done work and cleaning, movie and treats and maybe painting later. Or arts and crafts.

Omelette and chicken noodles for lunch.
Potato wedges, grilled chicken, salad and coleslaw for dinner

Battlecat98 · 26/12/2022 09:40

Thanks YoSofi I am just feeling a bit meh now, we will do something another day. Everything is out so can't be frozen but it's not the end of the world. Just need to pull myself together, my DC are not really that fussed about it.

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2022 09:42

This is the first Boxing Day that I can ever remember where we aren’t going to MILs for a Boxing Day get together. We decided this year to bring our Boxing Day celebrations forward to the 23rd, drinks and food with all the in-law family which meant everyone could just relax on Boxing Day.
So I have a plan to do not much today, I’ve been so excited about boxing day this year! We had a houseful yesterday, about 25 and thankfully they all live locally so no one stayed over.
all 3 dc are still asleep in bed, dh is in bed (just took him up a cuppa), downstairs is relatively tidy thanks to some drunken clearing up last night 😂 I’m now laying on the sofa under a spare duvet eating left over sausage rolls, crisps and drinking a full fat coke watching the Christmas special of two doors down.
Utter bliss.
will no doubt head out for a walk this afternoon (hopefully on my own!) and be raiding the fridge for all the leftover offerings 😋

SpentDandelion · 26/12/2022 09:46

Just woke up and getting ready to go out on a walk, l walk everyday around a huge beautiful lake, so peaceful. My sons are still asleep and won't surface until much later, we had a very late night yesterday visiting friends in the evening, apart from that just 3 of us on xmas day, so it was very calm and relaxed, which is how l like it.
My younger sister is coming over later, then we are going to see Mum and older sister who is doing buffet. Looking forward to it.
Then back to work for a short shift in morning, but l don't mind as l have two days off after. l am loving this break.

Kapalika · 26/12/2022 09:52

Kids still in bed, I'm on the sofa chilling.
We went out for lunch yesterday with my mum, so I said id do a gammon today.
Just relaxing, bit of tidying up, cheese board later.

Twinstudy · 26/12/2022 09:55

Still in bed with a coffee and the dog. I expect he'll get up soon so we'll go for a walk. Then I'm going to have a bath put some PJ's on and settle in a spot on the sofa I don't intend to move from :) it's been a mad few weeks at work then very busy couple of days building up to yesterday so the next couple of days are allocated to doing precisely nothing. DH has some work to do so a bit of quiet time too. Think this may well be the best bit of Christmas!

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 26/12/2022 09:57

Chilling this morning, working a late shift (nurse). DH has just left for work, no sign of adult DS yet.

yaflouloci · 26/12/2022 10:00

Walking the dogs somewhere where there won't be loads of Boxing Day walkers.

Eating mainly. Watching TV. Tiny bit of housework. Packing to go to a cottage by the sea tomorrow.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/12/2022 10:02

About to head off for a walk, will come back for late lunch of leftovers. One set of visitors leaving after lunch, so it will just be DH, me, my Mum and Mum's partner for the rest of today. Next set of visitors arrive tomorrow

summergone · 26/12/2022 10:05

I have 18 people coming at 1pm but I'm still in bed trying to summon some energy from somewhere to sort myself out and the mess downstairs.

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2022 10:08

I’ve got a washing out, great drying day here!!
About to do a cooked breakfast for 7.
DH is tidying up, DMIL is pottering, DD is asleep. Our two lovely friends have gone for a run.
We’re off to a Panto this afternoon and then back for cold gammon, chips and salad for tea. Then a film night or a board game or two.
Love Boxing Day.

Slimjimtobe · 26/12/2022 10:09

Dh is setting up dcs present in the garden
chill sort of a day!

we have the roast dinner again (we love it)
