What was a hit and what was a miss?

The switch here has been a massive hit!

Two happy children though they probably would have been happier to have switch lite each.

Im not buying them more handsets.

Miss….nothing for dd. She loved everything.

Ds was a bit more awkward. Dh had given ds some of his collectible figurines which were still in box which we knew ds would like. He is rather underwhelmed though and just wants to go on the switch.

dh is a little hurt

I unexpectedly got an Apple Watch from DH, I am absolutely delighted!

IHeartGeneHunt · 25/12/2022 15:19

Hit for the 4 year old- a gecko that sticks to walls and Minions Lego.

Miss- a marshmallow penguin.

FrightfullyFreezy · 25/12/2022 15:47

Dc1 did not like the Rubik's cube despite having pestered for one for ages. Couldn't solve it, got pissed off and spent the rest of the morning in his room. He has adhd so struggles with too much noise, fuss and excitement.

The hits were a book about a PS game, a charm thing, a wallet and a squishmellow.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 25/12/2022 15:53

I have 1 dd (13) everything was a hit. Wins at parenting for 1 day.
She knew about her Samsung buds2 so I knew she would like them, but she almost freaked out at the Lego bouquet and the Ghd hairdryer. She had some smaller bits too and loves everything.

Columbina · 25/12/2022 16:55

15 year old - giant build a bear frog 🐸
8 year old - big Jungelskog ikea bear 🐻

They've spent a large part of the day taking them up to their rooms to dress them up in their own clothes, and then bringing them down and announcing "the big guys are here" and parading them around the room for our entertainment 😂

There are websites that show you how to "solve" the cube step by step from where you are at. My eldest regularly uses these to "solve" the youngest's cube when he gets upset because its jumbled.

No small DC at ours today (and we've got covid so no guests) but the thing that got the best reaction here was some Christmas patterned dog poo bags for DP 'from the dog' which had us all laughing (it's been a long week).

I loved everything I got, the perfect combination of DP remembering things I'd said I'd like, some really useful things and some very beautiful things. He bought me a beautiful edition of a coffee table book I showed him a few months ago and then put a waterstones voucher in as a 'bookmark' which I thought was just a lovely touch and so nice to have a treat to spend another time. He was especially pleased with his new Roberts radio and a pair of socks with our dogs face on.

16yr old niece called to say thanks for the vouchers but mainly she loved the personalised bookmark I sent, and the dog shaped chocolates from Hotel Chocolat (we are all dog people).

15 Year old nephew I've no idea because we never hear from him at all but as with his sister the bulk were amazon gift cards (as requested) so you can't go overly wrong.

AlinaSquareQueen · 25/12/2022 17:33

Miss: a Christmas-themed crocheted huge blanket I spent weeks making for my Dsis, and she hasn’t said anything about it yet - except a text this morning saying ‘thanks in advance for gifts which we’re opening after lunch’. She’s extremely difficult to buy for, so I won’t make any effort next year.

I’m going to spend the evening drinking and blasting out Insomnia (and other classics) by Faithless, with the company of my lovely grown-up DC.

WhiteFire · 25/12/2022 18:49

Hits:

Dd16 - New CD player and Taylor Swift CD. Dressing gown, stranger things t-shirt and a DVD with Button Moon on.

Dd10 - Google Nest Hub, a cardigan that I had refused to buy her from Tesco, that I then had a chew on to track down and a book that she had specifically asked for.

DS14 - Local football team hoodie.

No real misses, though I messed up a last minute wrapping session and ds got two of dd10's gifts, I've had to promise two things in lieu, he has autism and actually handled it really well, so the replacements are fine. Dd10 had a couple of books that she is probably not that bothered about, but they were charity shop buys so no major loss.

Spottymushroom · 25/12/2022 19:00

All mine were happy with their gifts. But they are late teens so they sent me links to what they wanted.

DS17 got DS19 a tabletop pool table. They haven’t stopped playing. It’s been lovely to watch them ‘play’ together.

Hits: 2nd heated blanket for dd1 so she can wrap it round her when wfh. (feels the cold badly)
Dd2: "A Coronet for Cathy" by Gwendolyn Courtney. We had a copy but couldn't find it, and I found another at a reasonable price. She may be 19yo but I think there were tears. She then retreated to bed (she isn't very well) and read it before falling asleep.
Ds: No amazingly wonderful hits, but no misses either. Perhaps his biggest reaction was to a hot chocolate bomb, or possibly the (non-alcoholic) beer. He likes the idea of liking beer more than he actually likes it so he probably won't actually drink it.

No major misses, although dd1 and ds have put in a bid to have a similar extension stack to dd2 at some point, and dd2 has offered dd1 the marshmallows attached to her chocolate bomb as she doesn't like them.

dementedma · 25/12/2022 21:42

All hits here

Simonjt · 26/12/2022 09:39

@lucysmam

here we go

lucysmam · 26/12/2022 09:43

Thanks very much @Simonjt ! Last year's was good for inspiration.

Paddingtonthebear · 26/12/2022 13:11

I bought this as a stocking filler for £4.99 from a discount book store . DD thinks it’s amazing. Didn’t realise it cost more elsewhere!

What was a hit and what was a miss?

Can she still not stand up in it?

The camper wasn't really made for leggy dolls. 😃

Your sister is a louse if she doesn't pull herself together and thank you properly for this. It sounds fantastic and I'd love you for it, especially when you think of all the effort that went into making it. I bet it's beautiful!

AlinaSquareQueen · 26/12/2022 21:20

@TheNoodlesIncident

Aw thank you so much for your kind post, you’ve made my day. And yes, the blanket looked good, even if I say so myself!

My Dsis has been mean to me a lot this year, so I feel it’s time for me to reflect on our relationship, and question what I’m getting out of it.

Cuwins · 26/12/2022 21:47

DD is only 10m and a lot of her presents were to grown into or useful things but

Hits: baby Einstein drum, a snack storage pot 🤷‍♀️, vtech smart watch, xylophone
Misses: silver foil blanket (loves the one at baby group), a rag doll,

She still has several presents to open

Gingerlygreen · 26/12/2022 22:11

Dd9 loved everything but was really impressed with a simple pink wash bag and smellies, I've really noticed lately that she's getting past the child stage and starting to take an interest in how she looks and self care, it makes me quite sad in a way.
She was really excited to rub body lotion into her legs!

Dd7 is the opposite and was really excited to get a couple of Barbie play sets and Play Doh.

The things that haven't been touched since they were opened yesterday are the Jumanji board game and Harry Potter book set.

Logicalreasoning · 26/12/2022 22:23

DS 14 loved all of his stuff this year, even the Jordan 1 lows we got him, it was a risk because he’s not all that into brands etc but he actually loved them. He has ASD so we expect nothing but the truth from him, his biggest hit has been the Apple Watch though.
dd 10 is grateful for any nothing so her presents are always a hit no matter what she gets.

89redballoons · 26/12/2022 22:28

Biggest hit for DS1, who has just turned 3, was a child size litter picker - one of those plastic sticks with a handle/lever that you hold and it controls a claw type thing at the other end. It also came with a child size hi vis jacket. It cost about £10 on Amazon.

He spent Christmas day picking up all the wrapping paper and the rubbish from the kitchen and depositing it neatly in the bin. He and DH then went out this morning to pick up litter from around our local playground.

All credit to DH as this was his idea. Everyone was amazed at how much he loves it.

He also got a beanbag chair for his room, some puzzles, a big box of craft stuff, a remote control car and various books about vehicles/diggers. All went down well but none as beloved as the litter picker.

Serena1977 · 26/12/2022 22:32

Dd almost 11- hits were posca pens & stones, phone, oodie. Misses are Levi Jean's and air Jordan trainers

Ds 9 - hits were laptop and switch games. Misses were clothes

Paramummy3 · 26/12/2022 22:37

DD6- fur fluff. Bought in prime day sale and she loves it
DS8- Gravitrax
