What was a hit and what was a miss?

Soubriquet · 25/12/2022 09:06

The switch here has been a massive hit!

Two happy children though they probably would have been happier to have switch lite each.

Im not buying them more handsets.

Miss….nothing for dd. She loved everything.

Ds was a bit more awkward. Dh had given ds some of his collectible figurines which were still in box which we knew ds would like. He is rather underwhelmed though and just wants to go on the switch.

dh is a little hurt

DS (11): hits oody, new phone and some lego technik
Miss: new bedding set (obviously!)
DD (18): driving lessons, heat holder slipper socks & bedding
Miss, I bought her a retro style T-shirt with the silhouette of her dog and the large coffee mug (hint: stop using mine!)

BadShepherd · 25/12/2022 12:07

I’m in bewildered awe. Absolutely everything has been a huge hit. 🤷‍♀️ I will never achieve this level of success as a parent ever again.

itsgettingweird · 25/12/2022 12:08

Oh Simon you mean daddy. That's probably the best bit 🤣🤣🤣

LynneBenfield · 25/12/2022 12:11

Some lovely stuff on here Smile. It was mostly a hit-fest here.

Hits (various buyers/recipients) - stemless glasses, boots, framed family photographs, handbag, earrings.

Misses (again, various) - watch, plonk,

APurpleSquirrel · 25/12/2022 12:21

Oh hits for me:
Resin Art class in the New Year
New leather boots
Silver Bee earrings
New backpack
Another velvet bee cushion Grin

MishaBukvic · 25/12/2022 12:32

Hit.... a bag of plastic toy soldiers

Miss.... switch game.

Switch is left on side , and he's currently playing with the toy soldiers (that I think were from pound land).

In a way... it feels fantastic.

Changingmynameyetagain · 25/12/2022 12:35

No misses here!
DS1 got Airpod pros that I’d already said he couldn’t have as they were too expensive 😉

DS2 got a penknife and whittling kit and a Fitbit

DD got a cd/cassette player that she asked for and it took my right back to when I was her age and got the exact same gift!

DH got an Ooni pizza oven that he loves, he’s already got some dough proving for later!

Sideorderofchips · 25/12/2022 12:38

I've been lucky everything has been a hit here

Chipstheeldest- her mini fridge filled with American sodas. Tortoro hoodie and Bath stuff

Chipatheelder- KFC bag, make up, origami set

Chipstheyoungest- his hot wheels sets, switch games and his diddly squat farm t shirt which had to go straight on!

Paperdolly · 25/12/2022 12:45

For me. Hit, having dinner cooked for me by daughter. She really doesn’t mind and does a great job for 6 of us 😁
Miss. A M&S Santa’s Musical And Light Up Workshop. It is not working 🙁. Too expensive not to return.

Hugasauras · 25/12/2022 12:59

Hit: Slimy slugs in a box, remote control dinosaur, Hungry Hippos, Pokemon stuff

Miss: A little camera. She loves to take photos with my phone but didn't seem that excited about her own digital camera! Maybe once the dust has settled.

Surprise hit: Slinky in her stocking. Been playing with it all day!

LT2 · 25/12/2022 13:09

DS is only 11 months so doesn't have a lot from us, or Father Christmas.. (lots from family which we've yet to open) but one small thing we did get him was sensory foil. It was not a win. He pulled a face and tried to push it away😄

Zimtsterne · 25/12/2022 13:22

Both my teens seem very happy with everything Xmas Smile

DD wasn't expecting much as she asked for and got a tablet, which was pricey. She looked genuinely surprised and delighted to open a leather satchel from Fat Face and a Louise Belcher Funko Pop from me. Like, genuinely surprised. She said "How did you know I wanted a bag like this?!" and "How did you know she's my favourite character?!" (Because, believe it or not, DD, I know you quite well 😂)

DS14 is very hard to buy for because he genuinely doesn't want much. He's a total sweetheart. He's got stuck into What If 2 by Randall Munroe and is engrossed.

RobinRobinMouse · 25/12/2022 13:24

Dd (4.5) has now opened the Mama Guinea pig toy from her grandparents, massive hit and she hasn't stopped playing with them!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 25/12/2022 13:42

Absolutely no misses which has made me really happy as I put a lot of thought into gifts this year.

DD1 mega happy with a new Xbox but her favourite gift is a set of Jack Daniels sauces!

DD2 cried when she opened her new jazz bass guitar and is also over the moon with her echo dot for her bedroom.

DH loved his gifts especially a personalised leather bound book of newspaper headlines for his favourite sports team.

As for me - I created an amazon wish list for the first time so everything I opened was something I really wanted!

It's a very merry Christmas here today ❤️

Trinity65 · 25/12/2022 13:46

Just Me and youngest DC here but he really seemed to like his Disco Bulb and declared it "Sick".
I personally love my heating or vibrating or heating and vibrating foot warmer and my Christmas Spice candle.

Thoughtful2355 · 25/12/2022 13:47

Just found out my DD is ungrateful and nothing will ever be enough.... She's 3 and just got more than she's ever got before so think from now on I'll just buy a little

Whycanineverever · 25/12/2022 13:47

My random present for DD(15) was a cardboard make your own record shop kit. She loves it. Also the big reading pillow things with arms I got that was also an off list buy.

DD(11) favourite present was the LED light strip she had for her room- that was from her list.

BrindleBernese · 25/12/2022 13:57

DD (13) - absolutely thrilled with her ipad & Jordan trainers. Nothings been a miss thankfully.

DS(8)- His switch has been the best thing, can't get him away from it Grin. Nothing has been a miss either thankfully.

DelilahBucket · 25/12/2022 14:02

DS14 more American snacks and drinks you could shake a stick at, a selection of Japanese mini KitKats (KitKat roulette as the flavours are in Japanese), a hot water bottle and an oversized t-shirt that says "education is important but guitar is importanter" all went down very well. How to draw Anime book was also a nice unexpected surprise for him.
DH Paco Rabanne gift set with four fragrances and a cool box for his van.

You're putting too much pressure on yourself and her. A three year old isn't ungrateful, just overwhelmed.

CaptainBarbosa · 25/12/2022 14:10

Each present has been a hit here for 8 year old DS.

He's had Lego sets, a Bike, a LED make your own light up picture thing (rather retro) and the then...

the big winner has been a £8 safety dart board 🤣 we've played with it all morning, and to be honest his mental arithmetic will be fabulous by the time he returns to school 🤣 so win win...

PolkaDotMankini · 25/12/2022 14:10

DS (12)
Hits: surprisingly, the France football top. He also got a couple of books he asked for and has taken them to his dad's to get reading straight away.
Misses: the England football top Confused He's in too much awe of it to actually wear it but says he doesn't care if the "stupid France" shirt gets a bit grubby.

DD (10)
Hits: Bluetooth headphones with light-up cat ears from her family secret Santa and a horribly noisy toy hamster from DS.
Misses: new scooter. I thought she'd be thrilled and she said thankyou nicely but wasn't interested in giving it a go around the living room.

DH
Hits: mycelium t-shirt
Misses: expensive shirts. His team's moving to a big corporate office next year and their manager's told them to smarten up, but he was a bit confused.

Me:
Hits: an office chair from DH and the Braun IPL I bought myself Grin
Misses: DS was my secret Santa this year and forgot to get me anything Hmm I'm just glad it was me and not someone else!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 25/12/2022 14:21

All DCs here are ill, all burning up, coughing like mad and one threw up half way through opening presents, so not as many happy smiley faces this year. One DD didn’t even move from the couch, her gifts were brought to her. I don’t think anything is a miss though. Dd1 desperately wants to set her main present up, a sewing machine, she’s started the tidying in her room to do it but almost collapsed so now led on the couch watching Christmas chronicles. She’s particularly happy and feels special she’s been given a sewing box that belonged to her dads great aunt.

Because everyone has been ill we’ve not had the time or energy to clean and tidy like we normally do so we can set things up straight away.

DD2 led on couch in the back room watching YouTube, she’s manage to spread most of her gifts around her examining them, big hits were the 99p Christmas rubix cube from home bargains & mini lightsaber with miniature start wars figures in it. All 3 DDs got them last Star Wars day and love collecting the mini figures.

DD3 gone to bed with DH cuddling her Beanie Boo she got. DH already set up her encanto Lego and Malibu dreamhouse playset, so far she’s just stared at them bossing everyone around, telling us all not to ruin them.

New some fluffy pjs are a hit, everyone’s cold, even though heating and lounge fire one so all wearing their new pjs already.

Soubriquet · 25/12/2022 14:29

Whilst my two are happy with what they have, they would probably be happier if I stuck it all on robox Grin

DS (15). Hits - new pedals for his racing sim setup, which he knew were coming, and a vintage Rocky the Singing Lobster, which he was told he would absolutely not be getting! No misses, thankfully!
