What was a hit and what was a miss?

The switch here has been a massive hit!

Two happy children though they probably would have been happier to have switch lite each.

Im not buying them more handsets.

Miss….nothing for dd. She loved everything.

Ds was a bit more awkward. Dh had given ds some of his collectible figurines which were still in box which we knew ds would like. He is rather underwhelmed though and just wants to go on the switch.

dh is a little hurt

Hits: easel with whiteboard for 3yo, don't know how we'll drag him away for lunch later.

Miss: flashing snap bands for 3yo and 4yo. They love snap bands so I thought they'd love flashing Christmas ones but neither were remotely impressed

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 25/12/2022 10:20

Hit: Suit for DS 11, he loves dressing smartly and put it on at 6.30am! Artic Monkeys vinyl for DD13 - she wanted to start playing it at 7 but I made her wait until 9.30am:)

Miss: Fluffy socks which surprised me as they were on their Christmas lists.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 25/12/2022 10:20

Tamagotchi was a big hit with the 11yo but not with the 6yo, but I’m sure he’ll grow into it at some point this year.

DD11 was pretty disappointed with her presents yesterday from my parents (tbf my mum can be rather random) but she hid it well and was very polite. And I do get that younger kids toys can look more impressive.

Pismascrescents · 25/12/2022 10:22

console-hit
stock x type T-shirts- hit
furniture-hit
massage gun- miss
smaller bits- a mixture
phone-surprise hit

I am in shock. Usually I buy what they ask for and they are somehow still dissatisfied but this year they liked everything. Very pleased

thismeansnothing · 25/12/2022 10:27

DD (10) Hit :- sushi rice, nori, rolling mat and sushi recipe book. Also ghibli cinema posters for her room.
Miss :- Lego friends off one of her aunties. She's played with Lego forever and more into technic

DD (3) hit :- marble rush (which DH is now trying to build for her 🤣)
Miss :- encanto doll (she's never seen it so not quite sure what it is)

ladyvimes · 25/12/2022 10:27

Dh got crocs and is stupidly excited about them!!
DS9- Pokemon Arceus for the switch. Keeps shouting about how awesome it is.
DD11- Lego- all she wanted and has started building her huge set already!

Miss-nothing yet but will see!!

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 25/12/2022 10:28

Hit: DC17 giant build a bear frog and a jellycat frog. Both have been cuddled all morning.

No real misses but they have mainly got bits that don't have high expectations so lot more chilled out.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 25/12/2022 10:28

Are tamagochis a thing again? You've made a rod for your own backs there 😂

Hits for him

No misses I don’t think, if there were any we have all acted very very well!

RobinRobinMouse · 25/12/2022 10:36

The biggest hit here was the junior trampoline for dd who is 4.5. No misses but she was concerned the baby panda Sylvanian that was in a playground set would be lonely- I've reassured her he will be fine playing with the other types of Sylvanians though.

icebearforpresident · 25/12/2022 10:37

The small version of the Barbie Dreamhouse is the big hit so far, it was a joint present for both girls from Santa.

The roller skates probably got the biggest reaction but while my 7 year old did well the 9 year old got roller blades and made Bambi on ice look positively graceful. She’ll get the hang of it I’m sure but she likes to do everything perfectly first time so they’ve been left in a corner after trying for 5 minutes.

Shutupyoutart · 25/12/2022 10:39

dd (12)
hits:waffle maker, canvas and paints set, room decor. No misses really she seems happy with everything. Dd2 (8) fave with her is the spy ninja kit we got her she's over the moon also for her From Santa an Isabella doll from Encanto. Ds (5) we got him a switch from us as one of his main presents he played with it for ten mins, do you know what the biggest hit for him was? A squishy poop fidgit from Santa that cost about 2euro 😂dd(3) everything. Her fave is a toy dog that walks and woofs, she's named it after my mums dog :) very happy kids here.

PennyPearl · 25/12/2022 10:39

DS 2 really loved his click clack, his train set and those drawing things that use water.

Miss was actually opening the presents, he had a melt down - he is going for an ASD assessment so unsure if it's because of that or normal toddler behaviour but everything's been great once opened.

OneFrenchEgg · 25/12/2022 09:29

Hit for 17 year ds - make your own pop up ! GrinGrin was just a silly extra but they have already come and shown us one Grin

Can you link to this? Sounds like something for next year.

devildeepbluesea · 25/12/2022 10:41

Not sure there were misses.

Particular hits were the mini fridge, the bubble tea kit, the butter slime and Animal Crossing for the Switch.

she even loves the pants and socks.

Thecomfortador · 25/12/2022 10:43

Hit- Both Ds7&4 - robot hand backscratcher from the works.
Hits Minecraft dressing gowns, Pokémon Teds, soft dog and cat with babies, curlimals.

Misses - Charlie and the chocolate factory and enchanted forest books- but we shall read together and I'm sure they'll come round to them.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 25/12/2022 10:43

Only miss has been the light peg picture creator. I think that’s the thing they will be playing with all next year.
Everything else a hit. Marble run, toy guns, Dino card, punching bag and gloves and a toy weight for the baby as he watches his dad work out and always tries to lift the dumbbell.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 25/12/2022 10:45

The switch lite is the massive hit here. He is happy with his other gifts but is engrossed in the Switch.

TribeD · 25/12/2022 10:45

Well the hit in our house was a stocking filler. I gave DD (6) some make up in the hopes of saving mine from being annihilated.

I put it in a old (but new IYKWIM) bag with a few odd brushes. It cost me nothing, but she's sitting on her bed and is doing her make up, pretending she's making a YouTube Tutorial!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 25/12/2022 10:48

Barbie dream house is a HUGE hit for my girls (3 and 5). Worth the time spent building it last night (although stressful when DH put part of it on upside down 😂 -- that house does NOT disassemble easily when built!).

They've been engrossed with that and DD3's gift from Santa - the Our Generation Ice Cream Truck.

Stockings fillers were also a hit. Surprise hit is the Silly Sausage game (but like a Bop It). Can see us all playing that later.

My surprise hit is the avocado and toast Oodie 😆

Merry Christmas all!

solemnlyswearuptonogood · 25/12/2022 10:49

Dd11 biggest hit was a bubble tea set I put together in a gift box with fruit tea bags and boba pearls, syrups, powders and cup with lid and straw

DS13 loves his void Rubix cube and Pokémon nanoblocks the best.

All in all successful but I think I need to stop telling people I like candles as I have had enough to last me 3 years!

Beanbagtrap · 25/12/2022 10:50

Biggest hit was an old toy from DD that we'd put in the attic and rewrapped for DS , he's obsessed!

Miss was the oranges in the stocking. Look of pure disgust from both DC 😂

OneFrenchEgg · 25/12/2022 10:58

@eosmum

The closest they currently have is this

flyingtiger.com/collections/other-crafts-diy-supplies/products/diy-jumping-hearts-3044423

The ones I got are the same but called DIY jumping monsters

mondaytosunday · 25/12/2022 10:59

Hit: telescope and fur lined neck warmer (19 year old who has a motorbike)
Hit: Walt Disney Animation book (she is going for animation degree in a year), heated blanket
Hit: Lucy Worsley book on Agatha Christie and scented candles (me) though the present I got myself is my real favourite: a bespoke bedside rug I commissioned in my favourite colours
