Help, lent our house to friends daughter over Christmas and Alexa has just shown they were playing the music full volume at 3am

Friend is seriously ill so her family can’t stay at their house this year so have lent their daughter our house for 4 days as favour.

Just seen on Alexa they’ve been playing full volume rave music at 3am, we live in a terraced house.

DH is stressing, I’m not really about state of house but I am about neighbours. Think I can only take something around when we’re back to apologise about noise.

WWYD?

Alexa: yes, it's perfectly ok. I won't tell if you don't.
Would you like me to play some suitable music for you?

Very good, thanks.. but Alexa did tell and didn't stick to their word!

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 24/12/2022 09:29

I was just checking that they had managed to turn the lights on as you use a phrase, then first thing I saw was a message about killing yourself which concerned me (she has previous form) so I looked at what else, mainly to see if needed to notify her parents.

Dad has popped around and said all fine, they were asleep and he pointed out we can see their activity.

I said it’s not that, more about music and their safety and he said he was embarrassed.

I think I’m just going to hope this is all ok and he’s going to keep a closer eye, I won’t keep checking as now they have a warning it isn’t right to stalk them.

Giving me thoughts about whether we should be so reliant on connectivity.

And you still don't have this bint's number so you can contact her directly?

No good deed goes unpunished.

The father sounds pretty wet and lackadaisical, himself.

Maybe he's a bit distracted cause his wife is dying?

Yes, I don't understand this - you allowed people you don't really know to stay in your house and you don't have their phone number?

Reindeersnooker · 24/12/2022 09:34

I'd call and tell them you'll be disconnecting Alexa if music is played higher than x again.

MeridianB · 24/12/2022 09:35

You did a nice thing, OP. You didn’t snoop, but what has come to light - antisocial behaviour and suicidal questions - is really worrying.

The people in your house sound pretty dysfunctional. If your friend (their dad?) is up it, I’d expect daily checks by him for the few days they are there.

MeridianB · 24/12/2022 09:36

Id also get daughter’s mobile number. Perfectly reasonable.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 24/12/2022 09:37

I would be going home to reclaim my house personally.

thewinterwitch · 24/12/2022 09:39

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. I did read the whole of OP's posts. And the reason she offered her home up to his daughter in the first place was because of this. I still think his attitude was/is lackadaisical re his daughter.

Can someone help me understand reading on the meter in this picture attached?

It has 126 space 18…I am wondering if the space is like decimal point to be read as 126.18 because I don’t understand how my meter can read 5digits already

@Matchingcollarandcuffs - I don't understand why you don't get her number and phone her yourself? Instead you've worried a man whose wife is dying, and given him jobs to do. Get her number and give her a call.

Text "Loud music in the middle of the night is not appreciated. Please be more considerate of our neighbours."

Stravaig · 24/12/2022 09:49

@Cornerstone281 You've posted on the wrong thread, but there's no space, it's just the digit 1 only uses the right side of the slot available. 12618.

NeonBoomerang · 24/12/2022 09:50

Does the Alexa speaker even go very loud? I have several Google minis and a couple of Google Home Hubs and even at full volume isn't loud enough to disturb the neighbours. Or are they using Alexa to play music through another device?

Not sure about the placement of this, but an electricity meter can easily clock 300/400 units a month. A gas one can too in winter.

I would start a new thread to ask that.

Alexa can be built in to some very powerful soundbars.

whynotwhatknot · 24/12/2022 10:02

theyre asleep its ok well no that isnt the point is it-he hasnt said a word has he because theyre asleep!

Wonnle · 24/12/2022 10:07

I'd be straight round there and tell them to get the funk out of my house now !

diamondsarentagirlsbestfriend · 24/12/2022 10:09

Can you remotely cut the Wi-Fi? Or turn your Alexa down?

greenhousegal · 24/12/2022 10:10

Most puzzling thing for me is that your friend is terminally ill and her daughter is partying away at yours until all hours??

Does daughter visit mother or is there another story.

You need to start your own thread, but that meter was apparently installed in 2016 and has been accumulating kWh on the display ever since. It doesn't return to zero every month, or even if the house changes hands.

She's just figuring that bit out
