Mine is White Christmas cos when Bing starts whistling it really gets on my nerves!! I know it's a classic blah blah blah but it's so simpery. Anyone else a Grinch about a certain Xmas song?

Another vote for all of them! I do love a carol but I can’t stand the rubbish that gets played over and over in shops and on the radio!

Mariah, Michael, Slade, Wham, Noddy and the rest of them need to be banished for good!!

WetBandits · 23/12/2022 15:11

It isn’t. Chris Rea does not sing A Spaceman Came Travelling. That is Chris de Burgh. 🙄

Yes it was explained exactly 1 post later.
🙄

PicaNewName · 23/12/2022 15:31

I don't like a lot of them but the 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth' used to creep me out. I'm not from the UK, I was convinced it was an old lady singing it and I still can't get over it. Horrible.

Anything by Cliff Richard. He gives me the creeps and I can’t bear to watch him swinging his arms about from side to side while a choir stands around him, warbling, and a random child holds a candle. There isn’t a video he’s done that wouldn’t be improved by Jarvis Cocker coming along and getting his bum out.

Chikapu · 23/12/2022 16:06

All of them.

Chikapu · 23/12/2022 16:11

Special hatred for Mary, Did You Know? by Pentatonix and The Christmas Shoes by NewSong, both vomit inducing.

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/12/2022 16:16

Fairytale of New York - hate it

stbrandonsboat · 23/12/2022 16:29

That Band Aid one wants banning.

I hate the Slade one and The Power of Love one they always play, but I don't see how it's Christmassy.

ShinyPikachu · 23/12/2022 16:36

Mary's Boy Child by Boney M.

Also not a fan of anything by Mariah, Cliff or Mickey Bubble.

I actually quite like the Ed and Elton one from last year and I'm not a massive fan of either of them.

BashfulClam · 23/12/2022 16:42

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer…poor soul is bullied until his star is flying high. Fairytale of New York is shite too.

Sparklingbrook · 23/12/2022 16:47

Every single one of them. Except The Darkness one.

SwedishEdith · 23/12/2022 16:48

Last Christmas is my "can't get to the off switch fast enough" song. It must be absolute torture for shop workers just hearing this on repeat all December.

The Power of love was in the charts at Christmas (84) so makes it onto lots of Christmas playlists. First year of university 😁

Anything playing loudly in a shop when I am trying to remember what I came in for, just have a peaceful browse around, find where they have moved the boring ordinary necessary things to so they can put tins of sweets and biscuits in their place.

To be fair, Jarvis Cocker getting his bum out would improve most videos Smile

I am quite a fan of a cheesy Christmas song. I don't like the ones that take themselves too seriously, such as 'Fairytale of New York' and the John Lennon 'war is over' one.

I think the Band-Aid line 'Tonight thank God it's them instead of you', is basically referring to people's blasé attitude to something that's not affecting them. Surely?

TrufflesForBreakfast · 23/12/2022 17:06

I think I like all of these Blush

But the one I can't stand is that bloody Waitresses one. It irritates the hell out of me.

Enjoychristmas · 23/12/2022 17:09

Band Aid original and the new version about poverty Food Aid. The Food Aid one doesn’t fit the words for the song. Half profit to the Trussell Trust and half Band Aid Trust. I can’t find detail of what the second does. I’d rather just give all the money to foodbank than some needing to pay for the record.

cheapskatemum · 23/12/2022 17:23

Shakin Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone, both the song and the video are cringeworthy. If he hadn't made this song everyone could have forgotten about him decades ago.

Mamette · 23/12/2022 17:34

Step Into Christmas

Grr I bloody hate it, it seems like a really cynical exercise in putting out a xmas song that will churn out the royalties every year.

I know most of these probably fall into that category… but Step Into Christmas is particularly blatant imo. Plus it’s a crap, crap song.

pocketvenuss · 23/12/2022 17:57

Stay another day -East17 and that awful Paul McCartney one...Wonderful Christmas Time? Why Harry Styles did a version is a mystery to me

LaQuern · 23/12/2022 17:58

Fairytale of New York.

Miserable depressing dirge.

Legoninjago1 · 23/12/2022 17:58

I love all the old ones! I hate the covers that have come out this year. John Legend and Leona Lewis ones. Leave them alone!

sanityisamyth · 23/12/2022 18:01

Mariah Carey bloody warbling away. just pick a bloody note and stick to it

Romeiswheretheheartis · 23/12/2022 18:08

Can't stand the Coldplay one where they sing 'It doesn't even feel like Christmas at all'. So miserable.

Also dislike the Darkness's one.

Pretty much like all others though, I generally love a Christmas song!

Toomanysquishmallows · 23/12/2022 19:16

I can’t bear The Fairytale of New York .
