It definitely is.

Ok just caught up. As you were.
Both are brill.

Clawdy · 23/12/2022 13:03

I like most of these mentioned - and think Winter's Tale is such a sweet wistful love song!

East 17. It isn’t really a Christmas song, just a snowy video and it’s a really crap song.

I used to think that until it was on some nineties program that Tony Mortimer wrote it after his brother died. Now I think it's actually really beautiful but has sadly now got the connotations of silly coats.

Mine are Mariah Bastard Carey and Michael Bastard Bublé.
The former is X factor girl band dross, the latter standing in a lift in a hotel dross.
Also the answer to my Christmas Quiz at school "which singers are Pafmo's least favourites"

stayathomer · 23/12/2022 13:05

fairy of New York- loved it for years but my god do they have to play it a hundred times a day everywhere?!?!?

Winter's Tale is my absolute favourite.
Snow, David Essex and being 17 when it came out and drinking cider and snogging people. <sigh>

CruCru · 23/12/2022 13:07

Oh God, so many.

Last Christmas by Wham
Wonderful Christmastime
I wish it could be Christmas every day
Merry Xmas (War is over)

I also can’t stand:

Away in a manger
Silent night

mainly because our choirmistress at school got all the girls to sing them really high. Really difficult to sing

Proudofitbabe · 23/12/2022 13:08

Step Into Christmas and Wonderful Christmastime are crap

Merry Xmas War is Over is a droney one

Also turn off Michael Buble, he must be the canniest man alive to make such a lucrative career from covering others' Xmas songs with a bang average voice!

User135644 · 23/12/2022 13:09

A lot of these songs probably sounded better at the time but have been played to death for decades every November/December.

There's barely a mention of a song in this thread that's less than 25 years old.

Xanadu58 · 23/12/2022 13:10

Happy Xmas, war is over . I don't know why but it makes me feel sad . Also thank god its christmas by Queen.

I was sat in Costa the other day and his Christmas album was on. Absolute shite.

VinylCafe · 23/12/2022 13:21

I can not stand Mary Had a Baby by Bruce Cockburn. Sounds like a bunch of mumbling chanting.

Essexexile · 23/12/2022 13:23

All I want for Christmas, Mariah Carey. I detest it and turn it off every time.

DoraSpenlow · 23/12/2022 13:31

When a child is born. Cringeworthy.

Lottapianos · 23/12/2022 13:31

Another vote for Fairytale of sodding New York. Nasty, faux-sentimental drivel. No idea why people claim to love it so much

The new Lizzo one because it's the worst earworm ever!

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 23/12/2022 14:14

Feliz navidad gives me the rage 😡

TentoFive · 23/12/2022 14:16

Fairytale of New York.
I’d rather listen to a baby crying or someone digging up a road than listen to that song.

ClaymanI · 23/12/2022 14:17

One More Sleep by Leona Lewis is my favourite and completely underrated imho.

LBFseBrom · 23/12/2022 14:18

'It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas', by anyone, even Michael Buble. It makes me cringe.

TallulahBetty · 23/12/2022 14:18

Mariah Fucking Carey.

greenredgrass · 23/12/2022 14:29

Band Aid - do they know it's Christmas

I find the whole thing pretty tone deaf in its message.

WetBandits · 23/12/2022 15:11

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 23/12/2022 12:53

It is 😂

It isn’t. Chris Rea does not sing A Spaceman Came Travelling. That is Chris de Burgh. 🙄

TenzingNorgay · 23/12/2022 15:13

All of them are abhorrent.

BearSoFair · 23/12/2022 15:25

Little Saint Nick.
'He don't miss no one' and the whole 'run run reindeer' part make me irrationally angry!

iklboo · 23/12/2022 15:25

Mariah Fucking Carey
Little Drummer Boy (as above)
Pipes of Peace
Step Into Christmas

Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews is a cover of a song from 1944 written by a bloke to sing with his wife at parties.

Fairy Tale Of New York is about a toxic couple of addicts.
