The one where you might have comfy seating, the TV, the place the family gathers to relax etc.
And roughly where are you?

We use living room. Hertfordshire.

Front room- London. Ironic as it's at the back.

GoAgainstNicki · 23/12/2022 22:21

Front room, SW London

Family room next to the kitchen - big dining table at one end, sofas, armchairs and big TV at the other end.

DH's sitting room which is bookish, sofa, desk and log burner - no TV.

Drawing room which is tidy, has nice furniture and an inglenook.

we call it the living room usually. (Wales)
but, it’s now officially changed to the “wee womb” as that’s what our toddler used to say.

thelobsterquadrille · 23/12/2022 22:37

Nowadays I say living room, but my parents are Australian and I grew up saying lounge.

TheDogsMother · 23/12/2022 22:45

Living room. West Sussex.

Bonjovispyjamas · 23/12/2022 23:28

I call it my flat as I only have a studio 🤣

JoAlone2022 · 23/12/2022 23:34

Southeast. Living room. Never called it anything else

ofwarren · 23/12/2022 23:35

Front room
Lancashire

LibertyLily · 24/12/2022 01:51

Living room. Wales, originally from south east England.

If your living or sitting room is at the front of the house then it figures it would be the 'front room'.

My main sitting room is at the back which I like. It's a bigger room than the 'front' one and I have lots of things in it; when there was more than me in the house, both rooms were used all the time.

PinkSyCo · 24/12/2022 02:49

My parents used to call it the sitting room but I call it the front room, which considering my ‘front’ room is at the back of the house is a bit odd really.

caringcarer · 24/12/2022 02:51

Lounge, dining room, kitchen here.

Plantmoretrees86 · 24/12/2022 03:18

Drawing room, more formal but used equally. Morning room, has the television and gets the morning sun.

SuperGinger · 24/12/2022 03:48

Rcnotro · 24/12/2022 07:19

I grew up sitting on the settee in the sitting room.

Changed to saying sofa at secondary school.

Have changed to saying lounge since living with dp. My mother is horrified!

The region doesn’t have much to do with it, but class does (I’m a sociolinguist). Living room and sitting room are middle/upper class.

Saynow · 24/12/2022 07:32

Living room, working class, Derbyshire.

Aria20 · 24/12/2022 07:43

Used to say living room growing up but now always say front room!

Veryverycalmnow · 24/12/2022 07:46

I'm surprised to hear how many people say sitting room -
I really thought this was posh, similar to drawing room
I've never heard anyone say it and I have a mix of friends from different backgrounds.
It's always been living room for me, (south growing up, north for all my adult life) but I've heard front room and lounge a lot.

Smellywellyhoo · 24/12/2022 10:23

Front room or living room. Working class Lancashire.

Smellywellyhoo · 24/12/2022 10:23

We call the other room the dining room.

DashingWhiteSergeant · 24/12/2022 10:24

Living room, central Scotland
