How many presents do your dc have to unwrap?

I realise this might cause a riot but I'm just wondering what the average is?

My own dc don't get "presents" to unwrap from family as we are in a different country so they get money to spend in the sales (also older so appreciate this)

This means they only get from dh and I, I aim for ten presents each which costs a fortune when you have four children and they are all older so gifts more expensive. It never looks a lot when it's laid out though and even though I know big piles on social media could all be plastic tat and I've no desire to get into that kind of competition I sometimes second guess myself.

The dc also get stockings which is over and above the ten gifts but that's filled with cheap bits that they like and sweets etc.

I think you're doing well to aim for ten presents each plus a stocking.

DD has always had a stocking (five items, some only £1) and three things to open from us under the tree. She used to receive presents from grandparents and three families, so not many more than your DC.

Anewhoo · 21/12/2022 16:01

2 presents, but they’re not yet two so have no idea what’s going on!

PuttingDownRoots · 21/12/2022 16:04

From us? 4.

From wider family? Approximately 6.28billion. I've given up trying to control it.

Mine have presents 6 each and a stocking. Stockings have Pringles, popcorn, chocolate, face wash, shower gel and an AirPod cleaning set each.

mamabear715 · 21/12/2022 16:05

FAR too many. DD is ASD & Christmas is her favourite time of the year, but she doesn't know when to stop (she's in her mid twenties.) So I wouldn't post on social media as you'd think we were millionaires.. #rolls eyes
Ten sounds fine to me.

Prinnny · 21/12/2022 16:08

About 25-30 to unwrap plus the stocking which I don’t wrap. To be honest I’ve kinda lost count I’ve been buying, wrapping and putting in the loft since September time, Xmas day will be a surprise for us both 😂

Afl · 21/12/2022 16:09

Sack full each from Santa, around 10-15 each from us, then gifts from 2 sets of grandparents, 7 sets of aunties and uncles and 2 sets of great grandparents.
No I don't live in a mansion and yes I am having a stress about where all the gifts are going to live 😅

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 21/12/2022 16:10

2 or 3 things from us, something from my parents. Maybe one or 2 other things from friends.
Plus a fairly large (to my mind - maybe not) stocking containing small, cheep, bits plus some more expensive books and maybe a teeshirt or similar clothing from a more expensive brand than they would normally get.

NancyJoan · 21/12/2022 16:12

A few. 7 or 8, maybe. Plus the stocking bits and bobs as you would expect.

DappledThings · 21/12/2022 16:12

1 each from parents, PIL, my brother and DH's wife, 1 from my oldest friend, 2 from us, 5 or 6 in stocking and 3 from DD's godmother.

So about 10 altogether plus stocking.

Largethighsbadeyes · 21/12/2022 16:15

10 ish on Xmas day (includes the stocking)

Probably another 10 ish on boxing day from family.

So not a massive amount

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 21/12/2022 16:16

😮 I am gobsmacked. To those that give 10+ presents how much are you spending per child?

We give each child two wrapped presents under the tree - one from us, one “from Santa” but they know it’s from us. They might get one or two from aunties / grandma but more often between the cousins we just treat to cinema or bowling trip together rather than presents.

We also do a stocking with small bits and pieces, usually wrapped to make it more fun even if just a lip balm!

Mumtqxidiamond · 21/12/2022 16:20

6/7 plus stocking which is just sweets this year .. the 6/7 though include maybe 1/2 main presents plus cheaper things like gadget s and games

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 21/12/2022 16:21

We don't count presents. Some are smaller (more valuable) and others just have a large, age-appropriate box.

I'm sure the Harry Potter Dursley-present thing was meant as some sort of satire rather than a real life parental goal. Yikes.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 21/12/2022 16:22

My post was to the 10-100 gift counters.

Roughly £600/£700 per child (I have 2)
Overall I spend around £5000 every Christmas all in.
To me Christmas is the best time of the year and doesn't come with a price tag.
I guess I'm lucky still being able to afford that with how crappy this year has been to all of us. But I am cautious (tight 😂) with my money throughout the year, stick to budgets etc so we are able to push the boat out at Xmas

AriettyHomily · 21/12/2022 16:23

Depends how much the presents cost

Ohdearnotagain76 · 21/12/2022 16:24

I have 4 children and think about 25 presents, ranging from £10 to the most expensive which is £400, and they also have 25 ish items in stockings. The child that has the £400 gift other persents are things like a tracksuit, trainers, hoodie, oddie so although all adding up I don’t normally buy clothes as gifts (I get maintenance for clothes) oldest child has own place so have brought them air fryer, new towels, glasses (currently drinking out of mugs) next child we have brought new mats, covers, dash cam and wheel trim for car. Third child into a sport so related to that. We aren’t rich and this year we’ve spent more than we normally do but for things that will serve them well into the future. Also have a bigish family

Ohdearnotagain76 · 21/12/2022 16:25

Also to add we’ve not been on holiday for few years so saved money form that

Soccermumamir · 21/12/2022 16:25

They usually get 10 - 12 from us to unwrap and a couple in their stocking that we don't wrap.
They get a couple each from their nannas and 1 from a close aunty.

WordtoYoMumma · 21/12/2022 16:25

Over the duration of Christmas Eve to Boxing Day my children will open:

1 from the Elves

6 in stocking plus some chocolate selection packs (not wrapped)

4 under the tree

2 from siblings (they've each bought each other a present)

Then purchased by others - probably up to 5 gifts from aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Cincinnatus · 21/12/2022 16:26

2 children aged 12 and 9
25-30 each plus a stocking
Usually spend £1,000 each

Cincinnatus · 21/12/2022 16:27

Oh and a Xmas Eve hamper box thing each.

ChocolateTea · 21/12/2022 16:28

6-8 presents each, plus stocking. Teenagers and I usually spend £100-£150 per child plus their stockings which are usually around £30 in total.

student86 · 21/12/2022 16:34

It's nice to see we're pretty similar to most others, forgot to add they also get a Xmas Eve box with new pjs etc.

I'm not worried about how much I've spent as such as we're lucky we can afford the big ticket items but I suppose I worry we're not setting the magical memories by not having them walk into a mountain of gifts.
