Arrested for what exactly? Thinking bad things? Sadly, misogyny isn’t a crime.

He did more than think them!

Re racism and this article (I'm not denying there's been racism elsewhere, that's undeniable). I don't know how googling will help me.

This scene was done on screen to a white woman I believe (can't watch GoT because it's way too triggering for me). The historical parallels to this were with women in Western Europe. The GoT was Jane Shore who wasn't naked, but in her underwear and is believed to be the source of the GoT scene. But it happened in France after WW2 as well. Some of those women kept their underwear on too. Not all. Most had their heads shaved too. These incidents were all exclusively to women. It wasn't racial. It's done to "break a woman's pride".

And I have googled this happening elsewhere in the world (I'm skim reading, not looking at pictures, it's horrific) and all I find is it done to women of the same race as the victim. Almost always by men.

I therefore do not understand how this is a racial attack on MM. It's not referencing anything racial. As far as I know the article doesn't contain anything racist in it. I haven't read it though, so maybe there's something that I've missed.

So why is it racist and not misogynistic? Or why is it racist and misogynistic? I'm not saying it's not racist. I'm asking for an explanation because I don't understand. I've posted all this to explain why I see it as 100% misogynistic. Telling me to educate myself here isn't helping. I've tried and im not getting anywhere. If you don't want to spell it out that's fine, but can you direct me somewhere that does?

Again, I'm absolutely not denying there's been racism in articles written previously. Im only referring to this one.

everyone is raving against JC but what I find more shocking is that a newspaper actually thought it was acceptable to publish it

Yes me too, What Clarkson wrote is absolutely vile. But editors employed by the Sun approved its publication. The editors are influenced by the owner. Why aren’t they all being taken to task?

And where is the Royal Family in all this? Last I looked Charles hasn’t denounced this vile abuse directed towards Meghan - his daughter in law.

What is going on?

TheaBrandt · 20/12/2022 06:36

It’s racist because her face didn’t fit originally (wonder why) so it’s open season on her now.

As pp have said the RF must have pacts with the press so they lay off. We are now seeing what happens when you speak out against the RF and step outside the protected group and my god it’s not pretty.

It’s disgusting that the RF are not protecting them. We find Dh brother and his wife quite annoying but we would (and were actually) totally there for them when they needed it.

For the same reason JKR hasn’t been cancelled.

Don't talk rot.

MyMumSaysALot · 20/12/2022 06:54

If Clarkson is saying this out loud and in public, imagine what he’s hesitant to say out loud and in public.

Chilling.

LlynTegid · 20/12/2022 07:01

Those who approved its publication should face the law as well.

sinkyt · 20/12/2022 07:08

in some ways this is a gift to H & M because it proves the hate is out there & that the Royals are lacking. If they can say Kate hasn't had botox why not make a statement around this?

ChristmasSparkleTastic · 20/12/2022 07:34

BMW6 · 20/12/2022 00:00

FFS why are you taking it seriously? Do you really think he grinds his teeth in bed with rage over her?
Have you never heard him talk about anything before? 🤔

He can be an insufferable wanker, sure, but serious journalism is not his thing.

His thing is winding people up and watching them rage. He's very good at annoying people.

Ohhhhh! That's ok then?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was very wrong that he wrote that and that it was allowed to be printed. But arrested? The last time I heard of people being arrested for something they said in the newspaper was in nazi Germany. People on here are scary sometimes…

FuckeryOmbudsman · 20/12/2022 07:40

This is MN - the one with the swearing (a former slogan for the site)

If you want to say cunt, you don't need the asterisks

Has anyone reported it to the police? There can be no arrests unless the police take it as an offence. So those who want to see prosecution need to start by reporting that they have witnessed a crime.

Lesserspottedmama · 20/12/2022 07:41

I also think it undermines the wrongness of his actions by people claiming it’s racism. How can it possibly be about race? How can anyone deduce that from his words? It just turns it into something that can easily be dismissed.

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2022 07:44

I find hate crimes much scarier than people on MN calling for those committing hate crimes to be brought to justice!

Lesserspottedmama · 20/12/2022 07:47

Clarkson, like Piers Morgan, gets paid to be antagonistic and controversial. He would be out of work if he was kind and bland. His words were vile and he should quietly slope of and sink into retirement on his farm. But he won’t. And it’s the people who buy The Sun, The Mail etc that you have to thank for him having a voice and a platform. I looked up the readership figures for newspapers in this country yesterday and it was probably the most depressing thing I’ve read all year. What is wrong with the people of this country? Why would they read such moronic trash? And that’s just the ones who buy the paper, to say nothing of the millions who trawl the website. Moronic, desperately sad, wilfully thick.

Marynotsocontrary · 20/12/2022 07:55

Thanks @NaturalBae, but I was talking about Clarkson's comment in particular, not suggesting that she hasn't been the target of racist comments elsewhere.

I mean, it's hard to be sure, without seeing inside his mind...maybe you're right and he did think she was an easier/better target because of her skin colour? But that's not clear at all. There's subtle, and then there's what's basically guesswork, prejudiced by the fact that he's a privileged white male (and a pig). I do think he'd have made the same comment if she were white.

By contrast, the sexism and misogyny in his comment are overt.

I took it that @ChristmasSparkleTastic worded it this way as last month Posie Parker was threatened with arrest by Sussex Police after her Let Women Speak rally for 'inciting hate'.

musingsinmidlife · 20/12/2022 07:57

Violashift · 20/12/2022 04:52

And if you use that wash as an excuse you are as bad as him.

It was context, not endorsement or an excuse.

midgetastic · 20/12/2022 07:58

The paper that printed it deserves blame

Delectable · 20/12/2022 08:01

Not how his clear admission of such evil desire and then broadcasting it to millions hoping someone will do it is being excused as just writing, a joke or reference to fiction. Knowing full well there are already some who want her dead as the police confirmed they have many credible threats. So much so she wanted to kill herself and her husband decided they had to leave the country and 100s of years old institution so wealthy and powerful most worship at their feet. Yet we are told she is lying and not to believe her. People have been bewitched/programmed by the media to hate this girl. Mostly started by trading stories about her in return for silence about Rose Hanbury.
William the head of the FA never speaks against racism in football and Camilla so called patron of charity fighting against violence and abuse of women wines, dines and dances with anyone who will abuse Meghan.

Can you not see having consequences for hate sprach is actually the very opposite of Nazi Germany, where the police had the power to arrest people because of their religious beliefs or sexual orientation, whether actual or perceived by the police, with no judicial review.

From the Met Police website:

A hate crime is defined as 'Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person's race or perceived race; religion or perceived religion; sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; disability or perceived disability and any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.'
A hate incident is any incident which the victim, or anyone else, thinks is based on someone’s prejudice towards them because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or because they are transgender.
This is how The Sun thought it could get away with printing such vile words.

Almostwelsh · 20/12/2022 08:06

I don't know why anyone is surprised that The Sun would publish this. This is the newspaper that printed outright lies about Liverpool fans after the Hillsborough disaster.

No-one in Liverpool will buy The Sun to this day. You can't even give it away there. Disgusting paper. It preaches hate.

I think what Jeremy Clarkson wrote in a national newspaper is dangerous to all women because it normalises the violent misogynistic fantasies of other men.

I agree with this statement. I never cared about Jeremy Clarkson before , I hate him
now for inciting and justifying violence against women..
