I mean WTAF?

Btw @Marynotsocontrary none so blind as those who do not wish to see.

So clearly you can't explain why it's racist either (though he was vile obviously and sexist too).

Not being allowed to criticise someone simply because of their skin colour - now that would be racist.

NaturalBae · 20/12/2022 01:47

caringcarer · 20/12/2022 01:14

It's not a racial hate crime as he does not mention race.

One does not have to explicitly call someone a
b€#% **
OR a
n &?!:/%
for what Jeremy Clarkson said to be considered a racial hate crime.

FFS stop embarrassing yourself by being so effortlessly ignorant and do some of your own background reading.

And don’t even bother to ask anyone to post links to articles or websites. Do your own bl@@dy research.

Google and every other widely available search engine is free.

Books are also the way to go. Do you have library membership?

No. Incorrect.

I immediately recognised the GoT reference he was making.

I don’t recall, when watching GoT, it being presented as a positive thing - not least because Cersei ultimately resumed her position of power and had the Septa beaten and raped to death.

Clarkson’s own daughter has spoken against him, he has used his platform in a repugnant way.

I don’t think he meant it positively either. I don’t think it being a TV scene makes what he said okay. I just had the sense that some people thought he made up that scenario, not realizing he was basing it on a TV scene. Still completely wrong but slightly less depraved than coming up with that scenario.

verdantverdure · 20/12/2022 02:00

I think what Jeremy Clarkson wrote in a national newspaper is dangerous to all women because it normalises the violent misogynistic fantasies of other men.

Marynotsocontrary · 20/12/2022 02:02

@NaturalBae
I'm genuinely confused here.
Are you suggesting that any criticism of a person of mixed-race, like Meghan, is inherently racist? Or it it just the more insulting comments that are racist?

If Meghan happened to be white, I think Jeremy Clarkson would still have made the same comments about her. That's why I don't see his remarks as being racist ( though completely repugnant of course).
I don't think he'd make the same comments about a man - that's why I see them as sexist.

No, I am not saying that it’s racist to criticise another human that is of a race/s different to your own.

A lot (not all) of the negative press headlines/articles and general comments about Megan are based in racism. Some of the terms used are historically racist, eg. Eamonn Holmes calling MM ‘uppity’.

The ‘Straight outta Compton’ press headline when M&H were dating.

Danny Baker tweeting photo of a chimp when M&H’s Son, Archie was born.

Racism is not always in your face in the UK, like it is in AmeriKKKa, on Mumsnet, Daily Mail comment sections, Twitter and within the comment
sections of many social media sites, etc. Racism is often covert and very subtle.

I am not going to post any links as they have been cited, referred to, re-printed, screen shotted, debated and discussed to death. There was the OW show and now we have the Netflix series.
I’ll leave you to do your own work.

WestCorkGal · 20/12/2022 04:04

How powerful would it be if Harry's family condemned these repulsive remarks? Lofty silence from RF is one thing when they disagree with H and M but standing back when the mother of the Kings grandchildren is spoken of in a way that incites hate and violent degrading imagery diminishes them. " much loved members of the family"? Ok sure

verdantverdure · 20/12/2022 04:11

Imagine he'd said it about Kate...

He's also close mates with David Cameron, they all live in the same village of Cu %*'s. He has friends in high places and makes money for people who know sensationalism sells. Horrible, white supremacist. He sits N Sturgeon alongside child murderer, abuser, and trafficker Rose West and incites hate and violence to another woman, MM. Wasn't he at Camillas lunch recently?

He was at a lunch Camilla attended as a guest. The lunch was hosted by Ewan Venters of Fortnum and Mason.

The lunch was held a day or two before he said what he did.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/12/2022 04:19

I think the editor needs to take responsibility for publishing the article. She obviously didn't see an issue with it, which means she thinks it was an acceptable thing to say.

I can't believe some people are defending him.

It is a Game of Thrones scene and he substituted Meghan for the character Cersei. In the show Cersei is stripped naked and paraded through the streets. As Cersei walks, Septa Unella accompanies her, repeatedly calling out "Shame!" and ringing a bell to attract people's attention and the crowd boos and pelts her with rotten fruits and vegetables

It is called the Walk of Atonement for various wrong doings.

And if you use that wash as an excuse you are as bad as him.

Waiting to hear how he hates on a cellular level, & lies awake grinding his teeth in anger at Prince Andrew. Who actually IS guilty of some wrongdoing. Funny how these men aren't calling that out.

💯

sinkyt · 20/12/2022 05:31

It’s absolutely vile and another prime example of why misogynistic speech like this should be made a hate crime.

this

sinkyt · 20/12/2022 05:35

Exactly! it's deeply disturbing that both him & the paper thought it was ok to print this. It's normalised & accepted.

daretodenim · 20/12/2022 05:50

To the pp who thinks it's less depraved because he didn't think it up himself, really? He's said he lies in bed at night thinking of this happening. That's worse to me.

  1. Doesn’t make him an incel unless you’re happy to just randomly reassign the meaning of words. Like what the meaning of “woman” is now.
  2. Trivia ≠ intelligence. I guess Google is the smartest entity on Earth by that metric.

I get it. Guy said mean things about woman you were all bitching about last week. It’s fine to… not read his comments, just as it’s fine to also not think about H&M every waking moment.

Does this forum think Meghan is the spawn of Satan or not? Mixed signals, guys.

A forum isn't a hive mind - hundreds of thousands of individuals all have their own opinions, some of which vary widely from others. HTH you understand what an internet forum is.

So if he quoted a scene from a violent porno with Meghan substituted it would be ok?

TheaBrandt · 20/12/2022 06:03

It’s hate speech. Dreaming has it spot on. Woman are sacked and arrested for saying a truth but an establishment white man can publish this hate speech in a national newspaper and get away with it. Would appreciate it if someone could justify that because don’t see it.

This is true - why is the one group its completely fine to publicly and openly sell degrading expressions of labelled hate about, women?

It's true that this is the flavour of rant Jeremy Clarkson has been famous for for decades (and therefore it's pretty unlikely he actually feels anything at all - rather he probably just thought the GOT rip off of Meghan would amuse his core fans and sell), but it's not about a car or a food or caravans but about a named individual woman, and the rant is sexual as well as violent and degrading - it's definitely gone far further down the hate- speech line than should be accepted by the editor of a mainstream newspaper.
He isn't voicing an option on an issue but just describing violent fantasies about an individual person.

Wiluli · 20/12/2022 06:12

He is vile ! He should be arrested and he should be fired from any work contracts he is currently in !

Soontobe60 · 20/12/2022 06:12

Snoopsnoggysnog · 20/12/2022 00:40

This. Why has he not been cancelled?

He said, and The Sun published, a vile piece which most people are aghast about, me included. But actually, to expect anyone to be ‘cancelled’ for speaking their mind in this way is a bad choice of reaction.
Many people believe that to state that transwomen are NOT women is equally as vile and that those who do say this should be ‘cancelled’. Ie, stating scientific facts should be made a hate crime and people should lose their livelihoods as a result.
So, who gets to decide who’s cancelled? Do the far right-wing get to cancel the left-wing liberals? Christians cancel Muslims? Manchester United fans cancel Liverpool fans? Opposing groups are passionate about their beliefs. No matter how distasteful those beliefs are, trying to control people from holding those views has an impact on the views of all of us. Far better to ignore, explain and indeed pity people who’s views are so disgusting. But suggesting thoughts are crimes is just plain wrong.

Pointless2 · 20/12/2022 06:13

He is a horrible and dangerous person and the people who employ him should recognise this and sack him.

He needs to apologise in a national newspaper - a proper apology.

The RF should for once in their lives actually say something.

Arrested for what exactly? Thinking bad things? Sadly, misogyny isn’t a crime.
