What do you think about asylum seekers being sent to Rwanda?

Just seen on the news that some of the asylum seekers arriving here on boats will be sent to Rwanda…

Do you think this will discourage people from making the dangerous journey across the channel? Is this the answer?

Im not sure what to think about it, seems a bit random… Why Rwanda?

But I guess something needs to be done to discourage people from paying these criminal gangs to set them up with unsafe boats with the intention of coming to the UK… What does everyone else think about this?

But then we are a small country with limited resources , so doesn’t it make sense to take on fewer asylum seekers than other countries? 🤔

I think you missed the part where I said "proportionally" - even taking our size and resources into account we are way behind other countries.

We're actually one of the richest countries, despite the concerted efforts of the current government to wreck the economy. And it would make sense to take on more productive people to help to boost our economy. Look at all the threads you see on here about short staffing in the NHS, on farms,, in care homes, in service industries etc etc. We desperately need more able-bodied people, both now and in the future.

daily mail represent!
This website is chock to the tash with salivating, uneducated froth fuckers.

blame them little boats, once we are rid of them our precious NHS, which was invented by the tories, will THRIVE! lol.

howlingmoon · 20/12/2022 00:16

And hello Ruperto!

Forever42 · 20/12/2022 00:16

What's been happening on the Kent coast for the last few years is an absolute disaster for this country

If the government would open safe asylum routes there wouldn't be any issues on the Kent coast.

howlingmoon · 20/12/2022 00:17

lol for days.

If the government were really serious about stopping asylum seekers and economic migrants they could do 2 things.

  1. build a processing centre in France. French are happy with this and have suggested this. Would massively reduce the number of boat crossings as people could apply for asylum without having to cross the sea.
  2. ID cards. One of the few draws that the UK has for illegal immigrants that have no connections here (family, already speak English) is how easily it is to get work illegally. If you had to show them when you got work like in some other european countries we'd have fewer issues. Unfortunately we ID is only going to be mandatory to solve a barely existent voter fraud non issue.

You're tearing each other apart here. Total strangers throwing around insults. I think nobody wins. People will still die. Be kinder in your answers or you are just a reflection of what you write.
I don't think we as a nation know how incredibly lucky we are but when you meet people who made that journey and who tell you and teach you- you will never forget inside how rich or worthless a nationality can make you.

I've reported this hateful post

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 20/12/2022 00:22

If it stops/reduces people trafficking to the UK, then good. I don't think it will so it's pointless. The navy need to turn boats back. We also need to distinguish between AS and EM. AS will stay in any safe country, EM is a choice.

Woolandwonder · 20/12/2022 00:23

Awful. Pointless expensive waste of money. It's just headline grabbing nonsense because the government have made a total mess of the immigration system. They obviously need to have things in place to return failed asylum seekers, but this isn't it. I've known people who have been waiting 5 year's for a decision, who are genuine asylum seekers, desperate to try and rebuild a life and recover from horrific trauma, not able to work or have any sense of safety, being re traumatized again by the awful system. It's so inefficient it doesn't work for anyone.

If the navy turn boats back, how are we going to be able to distinguish between asylum seekers and economic migrants? And what happens if our action in turning boats back actually increases the danger? Does anyone really fancy being responsible for the deaths of children?

Mynameiselvispresley · 20/12/2022 00:25

What do I think? Appalling and disgraceful.

Getting asylum really isn't as simple as destroying your passport. That is one of many myths pedalled by racists and right-wing rags.

AnonWeeMouse · 20/12/2022 00:28

I think they should open it up for applications from British born people too.

Sick of living in poverty, in the cold, in the damp and watching the prices of everything going up, people striking to try and get a little more of a pittance to live on, antibiotics shortages, illnesses spreading etc.

Kigali is supposedly pretty safe, very clean and well run, just don't criticise the government and quality of life there could be an improvement to here for millions of people...

See point 2. The UK could do something about the black economy and chooses not to. If you sort it out there's no system to play.

The people traffickers would be responsible for the deaths. If we do nothing and the PTs can sell their services people will continue to risk their lives be they AS or EM.

I think these would be pretty effective. I'm not keen on ID cards personally as I expect they will be digital and that worries me. But it would be effective in stopping illegal immigrants from working and therefore, potentially, from coming in the first place.
