Anyone else thoroughly enjoying not being painfully cold today?

It's been bloody miserable. Thank goodness for a short spell of respite.

No I like the painfully cold crispness (but I'm weird 😆)
I just love not being hot and sweaty.

For the first time ever, I didn’t mind the rain, because I wasn’t shivering, wearing layers and layers and unable to get warm. I found it emotionally challenging too.

You can keep your crisp days. I don’t want to be wrapped up like the Michelin man, still cold and struggling to move around.

Winter is just an abomination with nothing to recommend it.

I'm sorry you struggled too ❤️

I feel emotionally and physically exhausted.

Those of you who love it can clearly afford to heat your home properly. I'm pleased for you.

Yes ! I’ve managed to actually spend some time in the kitchen catching up on cooking things I had planned but couldn’t face being in my freezing kitchen - I am actually so nice and warm now, I am so happy that ice has gone.

pinneddownbytabbies · 19/12/2022 20:33

What I noticed the most was how dark it was this morning when I woke up. I've been used to there being a white glow out there, and today it was very gloomy.

Vintagevixen · 19/12/2022 20:33

I'm quite missing the cold snap personally - my body loves proper dry cold, it really makes my skin glow. Good for nature too - kills bacteria in the soil, pests etc.

Very windy and wet here now - I loved the lack of wind last week and the calmness/stillness.

Hoping for another few good cold periods this winter.

Oakbeam · 19/12/2022 20:33

I preferred it cold, and dry without the howling wind.

LolaMoon · 19/12/2022 20:37

YES! Its bloody lovely being able to actually feel my fingers when coming inside from outside, not having to dread having a shower and trying to get dry in 0.56 of a micro second, having my face ache from the bitterness and having to wear socks in bed. Compared to last week it was positively toasty today!

Batcountry8 · 19/12/2022 20:37

Yes!
My house was 17 degrees this morning 🌞.
Heating had gone off about 9pm the night before.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/12/2022 20:38

Isn't it amazing? Had the heating on for a couple of hours this morning, then off, and still not put it back on yet. I feel like I can go to bed without a hot water bottle and without getting undressed under the duvet. Can't remember a more dramatic temperature change in a long, long time.

QueefQueen80s · 19/12/2022 20:38

@Fufumcgoo That's a bit passive aggressive. I'm a support worker so on minimum wage and I still prefer the cold.

Fluffygreenslippers · 19/12/2022 20:39

I was so happy to be out and about, even in the rain. I was stuck in the house all last week as I couldn’t push the buggy through the snow and lumps of ice, and trust me, I tried! I sat in a light jumper and t shirt and not 6 layers.

MelchiorsMistress · 19/12/2022 20:40

I think I’d rather have the cold with sunshine rather than the dark, wet gloom we’ve had today.

LolaMoon · 19/12/2022 20:40

Oh, and another thing- when its freezing and dry my hair gets so much static it looks like Ive shoved my finger in an electrical socket so thats nice that its gone too

devildeepbluesea · 19/12/2022 20:41

No. Give me cold and sunny over wet and mild any day.

Shunkleisshiny · 19/12/2022 20:44

I'm glad to see the ice on the roads and footpaths has gone, I'm frightened of falling so haven't been able to go walking for over a week. The temperatures feels positively tropica! today!!!!

bloodyeverlastinghell · 19/12/2022 20:45

So much better. I went out for last dog walk at 11pm the other day and even bundled up it hurt to breathe it was so cold.

greenerfingers · 19/12/2022 20:45

I was just saying how 1 degrees suddenly felt so warm and bearable after the -7 we had. Had heating on for a bit today and had to turn if off as it just felt overly warm. Funny how quickly the body came acclimatise to a new normal. Usually I'd find this weather cold.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/12/2022 20:52

"I’m fortunate that I can afford to heat my home without worrying about the cost though"

yeah ... I think you'll find that makes all the difference Xmas Hmm.

Ohuhu · 19/12/2022 20:56

It's splendid. I've never hated snow so much in my life...after the initial day of lovely fluffy snow, it was a week of slipping around on rock solid grey permafrost outside and wearing three layers inside. I've lived much further north than this, but the weather just felt bitter last week.

shard5 · 19/12/2022 21:11

It's been great! It was 13 degrees today, such a difference from minus 8 on Thursday!
All the ice has melted from the roads and pavements and although it's been dark and wet today I didn't need my coat so that was a bonus.

Actually I was just saying I miss the cold 🥶

QueenofLouisiana · 19/12/2022 20:09

Yes! I was out at 6.20 this morning to take DS to work- it smelled “warm” almost like when you get off an aeroplane abroad. But it was almost 18 degrees warmer than it had been 24 hours earlier.

Where on earth are you? I'm down South and the most it was today was 10C, it wasn't cold as such but not particularly warm either!

QueefQueen80s · 19/12/2022 22:03

@Fufumcgoo Fair enough. Soz ♥️

No problem 😊 doesn't always have to be bunfight on mumsnet, sometimes people just say what we mean lol

No energy for that genuinely happy for anyone who isn't struggling right now. Nobody deserves to struggle
