Got a cough. The most awful symptom thpugh is the bladder issues.

Barely able to control my bladder usually.

Got an awful cough and of course every time I cough, even if I have just emptied my bladder, I wee.

Its fucking annoying and embarrassing and just bloody soul destroying.

2 showers a day, pads, worrying about smelling and getting sore.

My body is just ruined I think.

So...are posters saying their bladder is normally fine and some of us have not had kids, but the recent illness has made us have issues?

I had pneumonia, didn't want to leave the flat, ordered pads online. Touch wood, fine now. Is it happening to men? Seems odd.

i just thought it was the cough and the age - 46.

mommatoone · 20/12/2022 17:55

@EmmaAgain22 - personally for me, i have had very little bladder problems until this cough started. My cough has subsided a little now and the bladder issue has decreased also. Its so strange..
Im sure there was an incontinence nurse on here who explained how it all worked etc.
Lets hope its not a permanent thing for us all x

EmbraWumman · 22/12/2022 11:49

My cough is going (after anti bs sadly) and even when I do cough, I don't pee now. I also have my period and wonder if the positioning of my mooncup is somehow preventing the incontinence as the involuntary peeing stopped at this point. Or it's a coincidence and my cough is less strong now...

I'm more proud of myself then I'd like to admit, that today, for the first time in over a week, I haven't pissed myself!

Even when I coughed so hard I started retching, my pelvic floor coped. Phew!

Day 22 is the bug, and whilst I'm still coughing and occasionally vomiting, and am tired, i think I'm finally over the worst.

Thank you antibiotics

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/12/2022 21:19

Yes. Absolutely the same here and have also been working hard on PF lately so it’s pretty soul destroying. The cough is so violent I’ve been sick a few times and my rib cage is aching all over.

Wiccan · 22/12/2022 22:11

OMG , the pissing cough . What is happening to us . I've never felt so down in all my life it's so embarrassing. My DH and i got this bug on the same day 4 days in feel like crap had COVID booster & flu vaccine in Nov flu doesn't feel as bad as we've had in the past but the cough Jesus I can't cope . my pelvic floor is usually fine
(ex Gymnast) but I'm terrified to drink anything or go anywhere .my DH said he hasn't had any real bladder problem but thought if he'd left it really too long and had the sudden powerful cough then it could be an issue . Could it be that women have a shorter urethra and stronger pelvic muscles ? .

toomuchlaundry · 22/12/2022 22:16

Had this, then started vomiting too. Spent much time just sitting on the loo, coughing or head in the sick bucket 🤮

Exactfare · 22/12/2022 22:21

@ColinRobinsonsfamiliar please get a referral to a woman's health physio, you may have to push your GP but I seen one for several months after the birth of my first child and she was 100% of the opinion that no woman should have to accept using pads when there is actual treatment available

I pissed myself with every cough when Ive been pregnant and it's grim ✊

merlotlover · 22/12/2022 22:44

Maybe try period knickers my sister wears them for pee leaks
I coughed today and it felt like half a ton of blood poured out of me! Oh the joys

merlotlover · 22/12/2022 22:49

Meant to carry on... sorry so tired, I've had bladder training this year and the main thing that helped was to avoid being constipated try not to go two days without 💩 it's really helped and also it was worse when I had wine (unfortunately)

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 23/12/2022 06:54

It’s the smell merlot. No matter what, pads, period pants it’s the smell or the paranoia around the smell.

The health implications of not drinking fluids due to trying to avoid wetting ourselves needs to be considered here too.
Women are deliberately making themselves dehydrated!
UTIs and kidney damage as well as headaches on top of having a cough/flu… bring fucking menopause and all the shit that goes with that!!
It’s double… triple the misery!

mommatoone · 23/12/2022 12:41

Well after weeks of cough, sick and pissin myself the doc has put me on a course of antibiotics. Another thing i have noticed last few days is that i habe this awful taste in my mouth. Almost metallic ,but not if that makes sense🤦‍♀️

toomuchlaundry · 23/12/2022 12:44

Has anyone ended up with rib pain?

wetwiped · 23/12/2022 13:12

I have been exactly the same. Peri menopause brought with it some mild leakage problems, I do love Modibod pants to help with this a little. But any virus with a cough totally opens the floodgates. It is miserable. I've just been caught off guard the kitchen, in only my dressing gown and slippers...now stood in a small puddle.

MumOfJamie · 01/01/2023 10:40

Happy New Year! How are y’all getting on with your pee coughs? Please tell me it’s eased off. 😩

I’m in the same boat, coughing so violently, I have zero control over my bladder. I’ve had it since Christmas and it’s been getting worse every day, going through Tena Lady night pads at an alarming rate. I’m 44, no kids, never had any problems, aside from the odd little leak here and there when sneezing. This is the most miserable thing I’ve ever experienced.

hugoagogo · 01/01/2023 10:55

Ye,p I can report that I can now cough with out weeing.Smile

RosesAndHellebores · 01/01/2023 10:58

Oh no! Hopefully Covid won’t set you back too much. I never had a cough when I had it, fingers crossed you won’t be too bad.

gogohmm · 01/01/2023 11:13

Me too, I've bought the modibodi ultra ones , game changer

MumOfJamie · 01/01/2023 11:19

That’s brilliant! How long did the peeing last? I’m so glad you’re better.

ChristmasFluff · 01/01/2023 11:20

I second the suggestion of seeing a women's health physio. There is treatment available, and also, especially for the mooncup lady - you may have an undiagnosed prolapse and an examination by a women's health physio will find that - honestly they are so much better than GPs.

For those of you who are doing pelvic floor exercises, as well as the 'long' squeezes, you have to practice short ones as these are the muscle fibres that you need when you cough. So counting to 20 and squeezing very firmly then relaxing on each count.

General exercise also helps, as doing things like starjumps (and indeed any jumping around) will gradually strengthen the pelvic floor.

Women are more vulnerable to this because of giving birth, because of the set-up of the urinary tract (basically women's is more 'straight down and out' and men's is a bit more twisty) and also because of the effect of hormonal changes around the menopause. But absolutely this is treatable until proven otherwise - at which point you will usually be offered surgery.

And of course, for many people, this will be temporary whilst you have a bad cough, and will only cause a slight leak. But for those of you who are really distressed - please seek help, and specifically request a women's health physio referral, because male GPs especially will not necessarily think of it.

stargirl1701 · 01/01/2023 11:24

Mine has completely resolved since I finally managed to shake of the virus.

Truly the oddest symptom I have ever had in a winter virus!

CoffeeBoy · 01/01/2023 11:29

I’m exactly the same with this current virus and I’ve never had bladder issues before.

coughing so much that it makes me throw up and piss myself at the same time. Fucking joy!

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 01/01/2023 11:44

I can need up being sent to hospital by GP on the 23rd as I was still quite poorly. 24 hours later I was home with a diagnosis of flu on top of the chest infection, exacerbation of asthma and strained stomach muscles 😱. I have finally stopped coughing so much I’m peeing myself but it has taken a month!!
