Barely able to control my bladder usually.

Got an awful cough and of course every time I cough, even if I have just emptied my bladder, I wee.

Its fucking annoying and embarrassing and just bloody soul destroying.

2 showers a day, pads, worrying about smelling and getting sore.

My body is just ruined I think.

I have the same problem. Thanks for posting, I feel less alone.

Hope everyone feels better (and dryer) soon!

I am a frequent lurker but infrequent poster. However, I feel the need to add to the general relief in this thread - I have had the cough for weeks and it has completely narnered by pelvic floor. I am so fed up of it and the results. It's all so...well...wet! And I live in fear of a violent cough when out so am mostly staying in. Why does it happen when my bladder is apparently empty? Is there a separate store that can flood out when I cough? I am going to the loo so often!

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 17/12/2022 17:45

Oh lord yes!
Add AF into the mix and the pissing and flooding with blood is just horrific.
I was in a work presentation last week with both going on plus horrific period pains.
Standing up, in front of a room full of colleagues presenting, coughing, peeing, feeling a gush of blood and pain was probably the lowest point of my year.
I kept pulling down my sweater to cover up any possible visible leaks. I could have wept.

I was wearing a mask too so was hot and couldn’t breathe properly each time a wave of pain came over me. (Thank Christ for paracetamol)
It’s miserable.

Me too,it's horrendous.

mommatoone · 17/12/2022 18:20

Sorry to derail slightly from the bladder front... but is anyone else absolutely retching when they cough? Ive coughed my guts up today theres nothing left. Ive had enough and im only on week 1😭.
Get well soon ladies x

AuntieEntity · 17/12/2022 18:20

Same. Having had a pretty reasonable pelvic floor previously the cough caused almost immediate stress incontinence. Lowest point was being on the bathroom floor, vomiting through coughing and pissing myself whilst exDP stood outside the bathroom door at pick-up time. Miserable.

I'm using tena pants for my chest infection cough. so disgusted when my dh bought them for me after i sent him for pads but actually i cant wait to get into them after a shower when i get home from work. Don't feel anxious about wetting the bed/ sofa etc. Expensive though!

My continence nurse said it only happens to overweight women, is their anyone out their a normal weight that still get incontinence from coughing etc? She made me feel ashamed that my weight had caused it and i brought it on myself.

Afterfire · 17/12/2022 18:30

Me too. 😞😞

my extremely skinny sister and petite colleague have both complained about the same thing recently so it seems that the violence of the cough is causing issues in people who don't normally have this problem

4onway · 17/12/2022 20:34

I’m 8 months pregnant really full of the cough and have also started setting myself. Never had stress incontinence before but it’s been getting worse every day, as if my pelvic floor has just given up! Im
hoping once the cough and pregnancy goes I’ll be ok but who knows

I'm normal weight but am having to wear the tena pants with this cough

RosesAndHellebores · 17/12/2022 20:46

@Serena1977 Am presently in a beautiful bog with Jo Malone toiletries, changing my Tena Pad and saving my silk trousers. The cough is much better at week 5 but my formerly prolapsed bladder (botched birth) is ripe for its 2nd repair. I am within normal BMI.

Your continence nurse is an absolute bitch, not well informed and needs a hard enough kick up the arse to make her anally incontinent. If she had to focus on shit from that end it might stop her chatting it.

Didiplanthis · 17/12/2022 20:54

I had the cough and the wetting too... never had to use incontinence pads before but no choice this time.. always were better than tena !!!

ineedastrongercoffee · 17/12/2022 20:56

I have 3 year old twins, by far the worst pregnancy symptom was my loss of bladder control at 4 months pregnant. It’s never recovered. I cannot let myself go too long for fear of sneezing. I recently had a terrible cough (sounds the same as everyone else, not covid but horrific) and the same bladder control problems came back. It really gets you down doesn’t it 😞

katmarie · 17/12/2022 20:58

My doctor told me that weight can be a contributing factor, and that for me it would help if I could lose some weight, I'm a size 16. But he also said that the main solution was likely to be a combination of physio and surgery, and my weight would only be one of many factors as to how successful it would be.

My bladder issues stem from my ds birth, I was in slow labour for several days, because my bladder swelled and blocked my cervix, so ds head basically bounced off my bladder with every contraction. For 5 days. I also have an untreated prolapse. My weight didn't cause those things to happen. It also hasn't caused medical staff to basically refuse to treat it (even with physiotherapy) until I decided whether I was going to have another child or not. So yes, weight may be a factor, but it's only one part of the story for me, at least.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 17/12/2022 20:59

Im 40 and have never had bladder issues. I had that horrible flu bug doing the rounds and every time I cough I piss myself a bit, thought it was just me! Still got the cough, it's verging on the ridiculous now

oldandfeckless · 17/12/2022 20:59

Got it here too

countvoncount · 17/12/2022 21:02

I'm the same, and it's awful. Mid 40's. Can I ask are Tena or equivalent better than normal sanitary pads?
I know it's just being human but I feel such a flush of shame at the thought of buying these or even having them in the bathroom.
(I know I am BU for thinking like this)

GAH3 · 17/12/2022 21:07

Yep. It's shit.

(Thankfully actually just wee)

GAH3 · 17/12/2022 21:08

@countvoncount I use these

Got a cough. The most awful symptom thpugh is the bladder issues.
Janesmom · 17/12/2022 21:09

@countvoncount Yes Tena are definitely better than sanitary pads, but I’d massively recommend the pull on pants over the pads.

lynthesearesexpeople · 17/12/2022 21:19

Yup.
Me too.

EmbraWumman · 17/12/2022 21:20

Me too, it's a nightmare 😔

katmarie · 17/12/2022 21:21

I go with the pants over the pads, the pads always seem to leak round the edges, but the pants don't. I usually get the tesco own brand ones. Absolutely unglamorous, and I fucking hate having to wear them, but they do the job.

GenialHarryGr0ut · 17/12/2022 21:27

Same issue here - normally don't have bladder issues but am literally wetting myself every time I cough

Although I am annoyed that I ordered Always bladder weakness pads and they are scented which I hate.
