I was remembering back when I was kid, my Nan would pick us up from school, and take us back to her house where we would have a small tea.

One thing we loved was tidgy puds and gravy. I was gutted when they stopped doing tidgy puds

Piglets. Hollow crisps in the shape of tiny 3D pigs.

United. Chocolate biscuits with little bits of cinder toffee embedded in the chocolate.

Bagel chips. I used to buy these in the US, can't find them for love nor money here.

Frugrains and mini chocolate feast ice lollies

MischiefTheChicken · 14/12/2022 16:59

Phileas Fogg Mignons Morceaux - a highlight of my uni days

Terry’s Waifa (especially the dark chocolate ones) - staple of the school tuck shop

Kellogg’s Puffa Puffa Rice - most favourite childhood cereal, I can still taste it. So few people remember it I began to think I had made it up, until I discovered the ‘Bring Back Puffa Puffa Rice’ Facebook group.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 14/12/2022 17:00

Biarritz chocolate bars.

Royal lemon meringue pie mix

Fairyflaps · 14/12/2022 17:02

And Phileas Fogg Mignons morceaux garlic bread bites, and then when they were discontinued the Waitrose version - crisp and crunchy garlic croutons. Then they were discontinued too.

@Sheldoncoopersspot @SamphirethePogoingStickerist
You can make a pretty good version of Toast Toppers by mixing ham and finely choped mushrooms with condensed mushroom soup

Smineusername · 14/12/2022 17:03

Oh and Bounty ice creams

Honestmary · 14/12/2022 17:03

Yes to toast toppers and tinned creamed mushrooms, the ones you put in vol au vents, now they were a staple of an 80’s buffet and I’d possibly swap one of my cats for a tin of those.
Cheese moments, all pubs sold them and they still tease me with the sleeve of them but only have bacon fries and scampi fries now.
Steak canadians, I got some a few years back from jack Fulton but a different brand and not as nice, pure heart attack food but great for hangovers

Creamola foam. I'm sure it wouldn't taste as good as I remember, but I used to love it!

Creamola foam is what always comes to my mind immediately on this type of thread. I agree it wouldn’t taste good if they still made it today though - they’d probably have used natural ingredients and no artificial colours etc and ruined it.

It was my most exciting thing to have as a child and I can exactly imagine the smell and taste. It made it extra good that it can in that little tin.

axillarytailofspence · 14/12/2022 17:04

Another vote for Burton's Potato Puffs.

Findus French Bread Pizza

Oh good lord!

Should have been nasty but was somehow just bloody delicious.

Findus Crispy Pancakes. Used to be our payday treat.

I doubt either would be palatable these days.

Cheese and tomato flavour pot noodles
Vesta chicken supreme
Toast toppers

risefromyourgrave · 14/12/2022 17:08

All food from back in the day was better, I honestly can’t think of any food stuff that has been improved. I often think that I would prefer to live a shorter life and eat all the nice things from the past, chemicals, saturated fats et al.

witch000 · 14/12/2022 17:09

Frizbees - baked beans and potatoes in breadcrums
Brunchies- egg and ham/bacon in breadcrums
Rissoles-
Cheesies - frozen cheese triangles in breadcrumbs
Piglets crisps
Vanilla yorgurt from M&S in the 80's
Romantica- lovely frozen dessert
Tangys - 5p lime chew from school
Baked bean pizza - think they are coming back, unless I dreamt it.

Loved 80's

Yes to Vesta chicken supreme, also their Beef Italienne.
@Honestmary; I fancied creamed mushrooms back in the summer, and looked everywhere.

Thank yo for that, I'll give it a try.

MischiefTheChicken · 14/12/2022 17:14

@bendmeoverbackwards So glad Puffa Puffa Rice is getting another vote. I still miss it. I remember at one point the boxes had Playmobil characters on (only in those days they were called Playpeople in the U.K.)

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 14/12/2022 17:14

Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall has/ had a couple of good recipes for toast toppers too. Alongside his DIY potnoodles.

I think I might dig them out and give them a whirl.

Dontsayyouloveme · 14/12/2022 17:16

PAFMO · 14/12/2022 15:33

@Dontsayyouloveme possibly a Mr Kipling? I remember a MrK chocolate sponge, quite dense, no filling, with a thick layer of chocolate on top.

M&S used to do a version of toast toppers that were amazing. A cheese and mushroom one and a cheddar and beer one. They also did a ready meal which was a broccoli and cheese bake. Sounds boring, was amazing. And their stuffed peppers. I've stuffed many peppers in an attempt to recreate. Never managed it.

Some of the Vesta meals are still available. Places like B&M and Home Bargains have them. I still treat myself to a sneaky chow mein with crispy noodles every so often.

I’ve been thinking about this since I posted and it deffo wasn’t Cadburys. I think it was in a dark purple box… the cake was big enough for like 4/6 . So it could easily have been Mr Kipling as like you said, no filing and a thick layer of like chocolate ganache on the top (incl. sprinkles). It was soooooo good!

AlphaAlpha · 14/12/2022 17:18

Another for toast toppers (not the mushroom one though 🤢)

Worcestershire sauce twiglets - they used to be manufactured around Christmas time iirc, they were glorious! Especially the powdery stuff at the bottom of a bag or tin...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/12/2022 17:21

(not really 'food' but I was brought up badly!)
Kunzle Showboat Cakes
Fry's Five Centre chocolate bar

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/12/2022 17:22

Baked bean pizza! Should have been hideously disgusting but was in fact delicious.

You can buy bagel chips in my local shop.
