Just out of curiosity?

Most schools in Hertfordshire are closed I think, bar possibly the ones in West Herts.

ifonly4 · 12/12/2022 10:33

50/50 here. Our HM is a determined person and has an hour's drive to school - if she can get in, then no one else can really come up with an excuse not to.

ethelredonagoodday · 12/12/2022 10:34

None here in our bit of York!
Is very cold though. Don't think we're expected to get above freezing today.

We had a bit of snow on Saturday; that's mostly all gone now. Schools are all open as usual - Devon/Somerset border.

SnapCrackleandExplode · 12/12/2022 10:37

In NW London and yes unfortunately my sons school was open. School run was anxiety inducing I tell ya

Mercy1968 · 12/12/2022 10:39

I m in Hertfordshire. My secondary school is closed today but apparently open tomorrow.
Our Head hates closing but the town is hilly and the roads are bad nearby.

ChicCroissant · 12/12/2022 10:39

I'm in Gloucestershire and most of the schools are shut - still thick snow and ice here today so the school buses are not running. I have an early shift at work tomorrow so hoping that the conditions improve a bit before then.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 12/12/2022 10:39

Oxfordshire/Berkshire border, no snow and no problems here. Though DH is working from home as he was meant to be in London for a few days this week and the snow/trains situation has stopped that plan.
I would be worried if he was out tbh.
Family in Glos are off school.

BillyAndTheSillies · 12/12/2022 10:40

East London, DS1's school closed and switched to online learning and DS2's preschool shut. Our little road is usually quite busy but we must have had two cars drive down it so far today.

The side roads haven't been gritted and we've probably got 2/3rds of a foot of snow here. Can't actually remember the last time we had enough snow to build a proper snowman like we've managed to do today.

DS1's headteacher lives up the M11 so it depends on whether she can get in. I was quite looking forward to a snowy walk to school.

It's quite ridiculous how much the snow affects the UK compared to other countries!

It isn't really - its just about the relative cost of spending on the necessary equipment etc. versus the hassle of having to close for a day or two.

We are in the Midlands and not one flake here either, so all schools are open. Had the smallest amount yesterday which was gone within 30 minutes. Just very cold and a bit of mist!

I'm in the Midlands too and we had LOADS; there's still a good couple of inches on the ground from yesterday.

No schools closed here, though, just a reminder to wear sensible clothes and shoes.

I have two secondary age DC in different schools. One is open and the other is closed. SE London

Floralnomad · 12/12/2022 10:46

I am in Kent and lots of schools are closed . Often it’s not only because of people getting to the school , it’s because the school site is not safe . Our son is an assistant head teacher ( secondary) and his school are doing online lessons today - I’ve spoken to him and nobody has turned up for the first lesson he’s doing .

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 12/12/2022 10:47

Most of our Herts schools are closed today, but annoyingly our infant school is closed but the linked junior school is open 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I’m working from home with the bored 6yo when I could really have done with the 11yo at home to help amuse him!

jellybe · 12/12/2022 10:47

My DD high school is shut but the DSs primary is open. We're in south Warwickshire.

euff · 12/12/2022 10:49

SE London borough bordering Kent. Primary closed. Secondary opened later.

Notanotherone6 · 12/12/2022 10:49

Yorkshire, -3 but no snow so both schools are open.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 12/12/2022 10:49

West London - we only have a light dusting, less than an inch. All the schools are (rightly) open. DD was thrilled about the whole thing - genuinely, I've never seen her more keen to get out of the door and walk to school!

Same here, dd and her friends so excited. We have quite a bit and they loved going.

GlumyGloomer · 12/12/2022 10:51

SE London, ours is shut (primary). Boiler service guy turned up promptly at 8 though so travel is clearly not impossible.

SnowfallSnowball · 12/12/2022 10:52

Secondary school in north London, headteacher sent an email just after 6am. It seems that staff couldn't get in. My daughter was elated!

Quisto · 12/12/2022 10:55

28 schools closed in Cornwall, lots more with late starts. Ours ( on the Devon Cornwall border) is open but I expect some teachers not to have made it in and some children are being kept home because it's icy. Mine walked as usual. He's 11 and in yr 6.

skyeisthelimit · 12/12/2022 10:55

Schools are open here, but buses not running due to snow and ice on rural roads making them impassable.

We live within a very short walk so DD had to go in. She just emailed to say there are about 13 pupils from her year in so they are all in one room. There are around 180 pupils in her year.

I don't know why they didn't just shut. They have set online work for pupils at home, so they could all have done that.

(Devon)

Clutterbugsmum · 12/12/2022 11:00

Herts/Beds border here and school closed, but they have set some home learning for children.

Grazka · 12/12/2022 11:00

Small town in Cornwall, DD primary school is open
