Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

In other news, I got loved up by a beautiful caramel-coated Jack Russell and later by a gorgeous border terrier. They're one of my favourite breeds, so wirey and grumpy-faced looking and adorable.

@Dotellhimpike I hope you can sort something out with the van sooner rather than later.

@BinkerTell I'm glad you got out today. I hope they get to the bottom of why you're having so much trouble with them soon and that you can get some relief.

@CyanCyan That sounds scary as hell. I hope your diagnosis comes through soon so that you can start dealing with what's going on rather than having to worry about what it is and what you can do about it.

CyanCyan · 14/12/2022 19:28

Thanks all Smile

I don’t envy those moving at all! How does it work with professional movers? Do they just walk into your house as it is and start packing your stuff?

mach2 · 14/12/2022 19:28

I paid £75 for two men to move a couch that cost £50. Still cheaper than a brand new couch and now I have something for visitors to sit on.

Gonners · 14/12/2022 19:45

Do they just walk into your house as it is and start packing your stuff?

Basically yes. It helps a lot if you've cleared out the crap properly beforehand. That said, I've only once moved with furniture, and that was just across London into Mr Gon's place. I only had a couple of small items, + a bed and a gorgeous sofa-bed, going with me (everything else was given away) and it turned out that when the people downstairs put on a new outer door they had effectively trapped my sofa-bed in the building! By the time we discovered this, it was far too late to start removing windows and hiring cranes. Luckily, my purchasers were delighted with the freebie.

Last time we moved we flew on Ryanair from Trieste to Stansted with one checked-in suitcase, a carry-on bag and a laptop. It took a couple of weeks for our stuff to arrive, and we did have to buy furniture the day we arrived, but it was fine. Can you tell I was an army brat and take this sort of thing pretty casually?

duc748 · 14/12/2022 19:45

@CyanCyan
I hope you get a diagnosis ASAP, sounds awful.
On the home front, 'proper' beer production today with a batch of oatmeal stout. Not encouraged to venture outside in this weather.

IReallyLikeCrows · 14/12/2022 20:00

I'd love to have got movers to pack for me but it's not something I could afford. Also, clearing up the junk is pretty much the biggest pain in the hole of it all and I'd still have to do that.

Does anyone here watch Two Doors Down? It's grown on me so much since it started and last night's episode had me howling with laughter.

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2022 20:10

Cyan

I hope you can get your migraines sorted out soon. I used to get them as a child and found that they were caused by food colourings and aniseed.

I last had one aged 28, at a bike rally. I got up in the morning, told someone I was thirsty and they handed me a 2l bottle of Coke. I had a couple of big glugs, then realised something was off; she'd put half a bottle of Pernod in it.

I really hope you can be treated with tablets and that it's not serious.

CyanCyan · 14/12/2022 20:24

When I move I don’t intend to take any furniture with me other than my desk and desk chair. It’s mostly ‘it’ll do’ stuff so I’m not bothered about. I think I’d probably manage ok without professional packers. The thing I will be most concerned about is having to get my precious boy to our new location as my next move will most likely be very far away.

@duc748 thank you. And oatmeal stout sounds grate.

@SinnerBoy bloody hell, how horrible. Is aniseed a common trigger? I used to love aniseed balls.

I’m making some impromptu brownies as it’s been an arduous day and I need something sweet.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 14/12/2022 20:31

Hugs all round from me too.

BinkerTell · 14/12/2022 20:35

@CyanCyan having that uncertainty hanging over you must be very difficult and I am full of admiration for how you are handling it. I hope you get some clarity soon.

@Dotellhimpike glad you have a date for completion - definitely get professionals on the job. I have had packers too - my advice would be to get them to pack but not unpack the other end.

Thank you @IReallyLikeCrows - first day I have felt properly well! My life has been like this for the last eighteen months and it is tiresome and stressful as I run my own business with my co-founder, have a team of amazing employees and wonderful clients (mostly) and hate letting them all down.

Sashohoho · 14/12/2022 21:53

Just caught up with thread.
@Cyan Cyan Likewise, hope you get a diagnosis soon, the stroke like symptoms and accompanying fear sound nightmarish. Health scares are the worst and can knock your confidence.
Migraines are dreadful, I used to get them a lot. By the way, feverfew is a herbal that I found of use. but research it first.Hope you get less migraines too, @BinkerTell.

God luck with moves. @IReallyLikeCrows, books are my happy place too, never thought of it like that before, but they are. I have a few lined up, but replacing Sands East West Street, will be hard. (About the nazis and the barrister and lawyer who introduced the terms 'crimes against humanity' and 'genocide')

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2022 22:42

Cyan I don't know, but I loved aniseed balls and things like that as a kid. There were also some school burgers. We finally worked out that they came on within a few hours of them, as well as Tango.

Blinding headaches, blue and yellow lights, projectile vomiting. I don't miss that at all.

Dotellhimpike · 14/12/2022 22:47

Bugger, sitting here in work doing some paperwork when out of nowhere BAM! Whamageddon from the radio in a patient's room.

CyanCyan · 14/12/2022 22:52

What does that mean??

SqueakyDinosaur · 14/12/2022 22:59

Oh just google. It's really not that difficult.

Dotellhimpike · 14/12/2022 23:03

CyanCyan · 14/12/2022 22:52

What does that mean??

If you play the game you have to make it all the way to Christmas Day without hearing Wham's Last Christmas, if you hear it then that's Whamageddon and you are out of the game.

I don't mind really, Last Christmas on a good set of headphones is one of the finest pop songs ever created, so multi-layered. Yes, I'm serious.

CyanCyan · 14/12/2022 23:16

Not sure why you’re being snarky @SqueakyDinosaur? Or maybe I’ve got the wrong end of the stick.

@Dotellhimpike ahhh! I read it wrong and was picturing some kind of ward walkie-talkie scenario.

IReallyLikeCrows · 15/12/2022 00:07

I've heard very few Christmas songs so far this year but I heard a few today including Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses which is still ear worming me. It's a nice one though and I'm quite enjoying it.

Britinme · 15/12/2022 02:22

Luckily the Wham song isn’t particularly popular over here so I tend not to hear it in shops - made it all the way through to Christmas last year.

SinnerBoy · 15/12/2022 07:42

I don't think I've heard any Xmas songs yet, this year. Perhaps I tune them out?

Bah, humbug! etc.

Kucingsparkles · 15/12/2022 08:11

We got Whamageddoned by a passing car in the first week of December.

-8.5C according to the weather station! Sunday is going to feel tropical.

Tricyrtis2022

-8.5C according to the weather station! Sunday is going to feel tropical.

Our back yard is -2.5° It's always warmer than elsewhere, probably because the boiler vents there. The weather app says it's -4°

The heating was on through the night, at 16°, even though I woke up at 2:30 and put a last log on the fire.

Tricyrtis2022 · 15/12/2022 08:31

Just looked at a temperature map and west Oxfordshire, where we are, is one of the coldest places in the UK this morning.

Kucingsparkles · 15/12/2022 08:58

We don't have an outside thermometer, but the BBC weather app said it was -4°C first thing this morning when we walked DDs to the school bus. Sky completely clear again, and now we're watching the waning moon. Mars seems to have disappeared below the horizon.

To be honest, it didn't feel that cold compared to a couple of days ago, when it was cloudy and a couple of degrees warmer. I speculate that once you get to around zero degrees, the humidity in the air makes a big difference to how cold you perceive it.
