Hi, I am an Asian and will be relocating to UK as a Doctor to Kings Mill Hospital. I with my Husband and 2 Kids, age (5 years & 1.7 years). I would like to know that what is the best place to live near the Hospital. A place with great schooling for my daughter and around a 2 to 3 bed house or apartment with a rental of around £300 to £500 / month. A place where my husband can find a good job as he is a project manager. A place where good grocery is easy in access. and importantly A place where people are friendly and are not raciest, though I have heard that in UK people are not at all raciest and there are very strict rules against racism, and no one is allowed for any such act but still me being a mother of 2 daughters have some butterflies in me. I hope you guys can help me out with some good suggestions.

The schools in Kirkby/Sutton are shit, they are deprived hell holes with zero opportunities and I can feel my soul being sucked out of me whenever I visit.

Bed Bradley is a moron, admonished by parliamentary standards and sent on a course about appropriate use of taxpayer resources and has made various inflammatory and blatantly untrue statements on social media.

Agreed. How the fuck did I miss PP holding up Ben fucken Bradley as some sort of hero?! He’s gross.

That’s Ashfield for you, though.

FuckMyLife2022 · 06/12/2022 15:23

As for Ashfield, one or two BAME children per class? You should be so lucky, it’s more like per school.

picklemewalnuts · 06/12/2022 15:24

Didn't say he's a hero. Said he's pragmatic and all over various issues in the area. Someone needs to tell him an NHS worker can't live in his area (MP and leader of the council) and that his area is notorious for racism. Do you know him?

I’ve seen his many vomit inducing SM posts, the people from that area who cheer him on, and I lived in that area for the first 25 years of my life and unfortunately I have to go back regularly to visit family.

SoI’m well aware of those areas, the attitudes, hostility, open racial abuse screamed at people on a regular basis, the sink hole schools, the deprivation and lack of education.

I could never, in all good conscience, advise anyone who isn’t white to move there.

I've had the misfortune to work alongside him

FuckMyLife2022 · 06/12/2022 15:30

@picklemewalnuts he won’t give a fuck than a brown, forrin’ person can’t find a home. Nor will his constituents because Jack with 1 GCSE thinks his job as a Doctor is being nicked.

You have my sincerest sympathies.

Imagine thinking it’s okay to post the home circumstances of two children on SM.

Or thinking you can have a pop at/educate a black woman, granddaughter of Martin Luther King on Twitter.

Of course it's not! The point being that those kids need support that wasn't coming, a more creative way to address their situation than a tesco voucher in the holidays. The majority of people in nice middle class houses in nice areas have no idea places like that exist.
He said it wrong, but people need to know that some kids live in the most appalling situations and that a lot of policies don't touch the sides to help the kids who need help most.

Anyway, this isn't helping OP.

I think most people seem agreed that Hucknall is the best bet, somewhere along the route of Trent Barton 3.

I'm no fan (and have the pleasure of seeing your Ben Bradley and raising you Lee Anderson) but he's hardly identifying them, is he? He's pointing out that these are the type of children that need govt intervention. Yesterday.
@MrsZaidi I second posters advising looking further afield unless you're looking at Berry Hill etc. Ravenshead, Papplewick, Linby, Mapperley Plains just outside Nottm are full of doctors who work both at KM and in the Nottingham hospitals. You're going to have to be a lot more realistic about how much you're prepared to pay though. I rent out the house I own in Sutton, it's a two bed and is £670.

FuckMyLife2022 · 06/12/2022 16:03

There’s this as well, to further evidence his racist behaviour. He’s not going to help OP. I could go on but there’s plenty of evidence out there.

Hucknall is going to be a better choice for someone who can't drive than the villages. It also opens up both Nottingham and Mansfield areas for her husband's job search.

MrsZaidi · 06/12/2022 16:52

Where is this all going, seriously is it this much to think regarding racism

I agree with this.

And unfortunately OP, yes, those particular areas are rife with racism and predominantly white.

Sherwood, Carrington and Forest Fields are on the 3 bus route, are very diverse with decent primary and secondary schools.

However, even in Forest Fields, you’ll be paying £800 minimum.

OK SO I BLIEVE EVERYONE HAS HIS OWN EXPERIENCE, LET SEE WHAT CAN WE DO, I BELIVE WE WILL GET TO KNOW THE SROUNDING AFTER WE GET THERE. HOPE FOR THE BEST, FINGER CROSSED.

There are some nice areas to live but you need to double your budget. £1500 a month on rent is more realistic.

You are really going to struggle without a car though.

metellaestinatrio · 07/12/2022 07:17

OP, my husband’s family is from that area and I would not choose to move there if I was not white. You should make learning to drive a priority so you can live in Nottingham (diverse and lots to do) or one of the nicer areas named by PP and commute.

Ciri · 07/12/2022 07:22

Lots of non white families in Berry Hill and Harlow Wood

gogohmm · 07/12/2022 07:31

Generally if you are a doctor you have to live within a certain distance of work as part of your contract, unless you are very close (walk/cycle within that time) you need to be able to drive yourself. I'm guessing English isn't your first language from the way you have written the post but no it's not your husband's responsibility to drive you to work, a doctor needs to be flexible and you mentioned him working.

Look close to the hospital so you can walk/cycle initially, your hours will be long so less traveling the better

TimeSlipMushroom · 07/12/2022 08:04

I would suggest joining an online doctors group for doctors/health professionals from your country who have moved to the UK. You'll be able to find out about cultural issues etc. The hospital might have some contacts or someone you can talk to.
Hospital accomodation is a good place to start and get a feel for where you would like to live in the area.

Not necessarily and depends what grade of doctor.

TreacleTart8 · 07/12/2022 08:10

Hi. I grew up in the Ashfield area and formerly worked at Kings Mill.
I think you’re unlikely to find an ideal place within your stated budget remotely before you arrive - you honestly need to see how you find the area and then make your decision once you have a feeling for it. Transport will be really important for you if you’re on call and have to be at the hospital quickly.
I think if you speak to your employer/medical director/HR they’d be able to help you with accommodation links locally or at the hospital, as they will be very pleased to have a new member of staff and want to facilitate you in your new role. Did you accept a relocation package? The hospital site can be a good bet initially whilst you scope it out, learn to drive and your husband looks for a job too, before making a more permanent choice of where to live. They’ll probably be able to link you in with other members of staff who have moved to the area to work there too for advice/information. As an NHS manager I’ve done this many times for medical staff.
There’s truth in what everyone says here about the local area, both good and bad. But generally people are friendly and say “good morning”. Best of luck
