Showers in the dark and other strangely nice things

A few years ago there was a thread on here about weird but nice ways of doing things.

I loved that thread and still do two of the things that posters shared: showering in the dark- strangely comforting; and brushing my teeth with warm water- also nice.

Do you have any weird but nice ways to do ordinary things?

I’m scared of dark 🤣

I like when my cat rubs his little head on my foot when he walks past.

Mamoun · 04/12/2022 19:21

Not that weird but frowned upon: dipping jammy toast in milky tea!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 04/12/2022 19:24

Just something related to yours. I have new toothpaste ehich warms up in your mouth. Weird but nice. It's the new corsodyl one.

Water in the dark is nice isn't it? I discovered swimming in the dark once when we rented a villa with a pool. It was like flying.

CoastalDream · 04/12/2022 19:32

Swimming naked also feels like flying and u dry off in seconds afterwards without shivering

Marmite toast dipped in tea is nice.

Kind of related. - I'm painting my bedroom this week so had no curtains up at the bedroom window a couple of nights ago. The bed is right by the (big) window and it was amazing! I couldn't believe how beautiful it was and that I'd never done it before... New curtains are now up, but am considering sleeping with curtains open in the winter especially - was so lovely looking the stars and moon Grin

WhatsErFace2020 · 04/12/2022 19:38

In the colder months after showering or bathing I LOVE to dry off and quickly get into my PJs then get under the covers - the heat from your body makes the whole bed so toasty!

SingingSands · 04/12/2022 19:42

I'm not disputing it may be lovely, but HOW do you shower in the dark? Without possibly tripping, walking into something, standing on a cat etc? Do you just get used to where everything is? Do you accidentally use conditioner instead of shampoo?

Sorry, I have too many questions about this!!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/12/2022 19:42

Swimming with clothes on is weirdly lovely. I wear thin shorts because I cba with my bikini line, and it's just so nice feeling the material drift around you.

dudsville · 04/12/2022 19:47

I don't
Remember the thread but brush with warm water (sensitive teeth) and ayer and bathe in low light, hall light on. Both are extremely pleasant if you're suffering sensory overload!

Livedandlearned · 04/12/2022 19:48

I make sure I have everything I need for the shower put where I can easily find and distinguish it and then I go for it.

The swimming in the dark sounds amazing!

I had very low light levels with unlimited hot water for showering in peace and quiet and calm on Christmas night 2005. Which was great to help keep me relaxed as I laboured with dd.

I always leave the bedroom blind open. The angle means I can only see the tops of a tree and the sky, nobody can see in. I miss waking to the morning sun in winter. Getting one of those light alarms this Christmas.

I got home from the gym on the morning of the 1st and my husband and kid had put up the christmas lights, it was so uplifting to walk in to. It makes me want to decorate seasonally all year round. Dunno whether that's weird though.

When I'm going to sleep I think about places I can't visit any more, that are pedestrian and probably a bit boring, and feel very nice when I do so. Like supermarkets, my old college, walking around school when it was empty. In fact, familiar buildings at night can be really lovely to walk around. I used to spend a good 2 hours doing it before band practice in secondary school. Classes that were noisy and harshly lit in the day were some of my favourite places in the evening.

Totally agree with this. I used to be the only person in the office in the evening, from 5-9pm, and I'd walk from my little office thru the big one to the kitchen in the dark, usually in my socks. The rest of the company was still staffed and running but the office was 'closed'.

Was OK and really restful, except one evening when the security guard and I scared the shit out of each other! 😂

When I was a kid we had our roof replaced and it was all open to the sky over the bathroom and landing. Was amazing having a bath with just walls and no roof/ceiling.

Northernsoullover · 04/12/2022 21:10

I love sleeping with the curtains open. I only do it in the summer.

CuriousMama · 04/12/2022 21:16

Swimming under a waterfall. I've only done it in Britain but I bet it's amazing somewhere warm.

I always sleep with the bedroom curtains open, I live in a rural location and there are no street lights so it's really dark. It's nice being able to see the moon and stars when I am in bed.

VejaVagVagina · 04/12/2022 21:40

Not wearing any shoes when a passenger in the car, sometimes even wearing slippers.

Taking shoes off at work under the desk.

(I'm noticing a shoe trend here...)

Having a cold shower on a hot summer day.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/12/2022 21:44

I've loved sleeping with the curtains open since I was a kid but DH hates the light coming in in the morning so that doesn't happen any more.

I think I'll give the shower thing a go, though.

I love having a bath in the afternoon, with the sun streaming in the window on me.

When I'm in the shower I sometimes start to think about what would happen if there were a zombie apocalypse I didn't know about and what I would do if a zombie horde broke down the door. This then leads to me feeling slightly worried about an impending zombie apocalypse. If I were also showering in the dark I'm sure my slight worries would develop into full blown panic! 😆

I was scared of waking dd up one night so did this. Stupid cat was on the landing and I trod on her. The noise she made was awful and did wake up dd so then I felt guilty as well about dd and the bloody cat 😂
