M&S Sparks 12 Days of Christmas

So today is the first day of the M&S 12 Days of Christmas Advent rewards on the app.
What have you got?
I've got a free M&S Tea Light Up Lantern - looks lovely but I don't drink tea. But it is free... tricky! It does say I have 11 days to use though, which is good.

This is a reply on Twitter to someone complaining about the offers -

we're sorry to hear that you weren't happy with our 12 Days of Sparks offers and have fed this back to our Sparks Team. Our offers were designed using every customer's unique shopping habits and I'm sad to hear you're disappointed by the offers you've received.

Their system didn’t look very closely at my shopping habits. I had a free gift of a bottle of Buck’s Fizz but I’ve never bought alcohol from M&S, likewise underwear, bags, nightwear and skincare.

Yeah same...20% off a bottle of Prosecco...since having the Sparks card I have never bought alcohol from them.

Headabovetheparakeet · 13/12/2022 16:09

What happened to the £5 off a £50 spend in the food hall type vouchers that M&S used to give out?

I would have been delighted with one or two of those.

Seriously? Then their research is so very wrong.

My free-bee was stocking lights and after that it was 20% off toys; kids stuff etc I have one son who is 17.

I buy a lot of food from M&S and alcohol and didn’t get any related discounts except 15% off crisps and £1 off the light up teabags.

It seemed completely random to me and hence I used none of my “treats”. Even my golden award is kids days out…so confused.

I don’t expect loads of free stuff, but small discounts on things I buy would have been appreciated. Even Waitrose sends me more accurately personalised vouchers and I do hardly any shopping with them.

^^ This.

I don't think it's that people have unreasonable expectations of M&S; it's the fact that they themselves promote their 12 days of Xmas as something wonderful. Which it really isn't.

If they are looking at customer spending habits then they might ask themselves why they gave me a discount on toys when my youngest dc is 24. (I don't even have any young relatives any more). I've never bought a skirt or dress from M&S or any Goodmove clothing etc etc

Gooseysgirl · 13/12/2022 17:32

I'm livid. Decided to register for the Days Out pass in case there was anything I might be able to use. The only outing we could afford even with the discount was a zoo visit. Guess what... all adult passes booked out 😠

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/12/2022 17:38

Their data harvesting is an absolute joke.

Alakazam8 · 13/12/2022 18:07

Tried to use my 20% off women’s socks today. Chose a nice pair of fluffy socks which were part of a gift for someone. Pink and white striped. Got to till and it turned out the voucher doesn’t cover all women’s socks!! ( That’s not my discount, It’s socks are too fluffy etc etc.)

Parmavi0lets · 13/12/2022 18:24

You only need to read this thread to see that their reply is nonsense. Everyone has more or less the same offers!

Lorrymum · 13/12/2022 19:27

I still don't think a discount code is a gift! Sorry M&S but I have spent a small fortune with you this year. My only physical gift has been a cheap string of battery operated lights that have never been in my local shop (checked with store manager)

Floralnomad · 14/12/2022 00:50

How were the offers tailored to individuals when most days we were all getting one of 2 offers , that reply just makes them look stupid .

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 14/12/2022 06:50

I've been very disappointed with all 12 days then the last day absolutely nothing
Never mind I won't bother with it next year what a waste of time and energy

Schlaar · 14/12/2022 08:02

The main issue with this has been disappointment. People thought they might get something good on days 2-11 and wasted time opening the doors and hoping. They should have said the free gift is only on day 1.

At least we have now learned that it’s only worth opening the first day to see if you’ve got a good freebie, and you need to call and check stock before attempting to collect.

Don’t know why I’m surprised though. Sparks is always rubbish random discounts off stuff you don’t buy.

LookItsMeAgain · 14/12/2022 08:58

I posted on Twitter asking where my Day 13 was, the golden door if you will, and I was told that I had received it by email and it was 30% off decorations.

Now considering I got 20% off decorations during the 12 Days of Christmas thing, (and I'm not planning on buying any more decorations), why was this thought of as a good idea for me? Their algorithm is complete shite as I would have preferred 20% off women's fashions or shoes or off groceries or something general but this is complete shite to be honest. I'm a very regular shopper in their stores and on line and this has just left me feeling a bit meh to be honest.

Trees6 · 14/12/2022 09:20

Sparks is a poor loyalty card in general. I still with it because of the link to the breast cancer charity.

Boots has the best loyalty card IMO - straightforward and useful.

Waitrose is also good for me, with the free coffee (I love coffee) and a choice of two discounts every week based on recent spending habits - they also send an “£8 off a £40 shop” voucher periodically.

Vinorosso74 · 14/12/2022 09:26

Agree it is rubbish. The charity donations are good (whilst stalking our shopping habits for occasional free Percy Pigs) and the 20% offs every single often. This Christmas thing was just a big disappointment.
The Boots card is great. Bonus points which add up. I use points for makeup bits throughout the year.

ChristmasCwtch · 14/12/2022 09:31

Sparks is the worst loyalty card scheme. It’s random and apart from the odd pack of apples or pig sweets doesn’t feel like a reward 😂

@Alakazam8 I used the socks discount to buy the fluffy spencer bear socks! Maybe try online

Wherediditallgo · 14/12/2022 12:32

I got a £10 gift voucher from Woolovers in the post today to spend on whatever I like.
That’s a much better gift!

woodhill · 14/12/2022 13:45

Mine on Day 8 says come back tomorrow even though I opened 7 yesterday and it won't let me open Saturday as I forgot on the day

Really rubbish

Trees6 · 30/11/2023 21:46

It’s back! Starting tomorrow. Let’s see if it has improved since 2022.

We need a new thread, it was highly entertaining last year.

Blueberrycreampie · 30/11/2023 22:24

Thanks for the reminder!

MeinKraft · 30/11/2023 22:32

Yay! What will it be tomorrow? 5% off cashmere socks, or a free chocolate Brussels sprout?

HoHoHoliday · 30/11/2023 22:45

I'd forgotten all about this until the thread popped back up in my app, and now I remember how disappointed I was last year 😂

Sartre · 30/11/2023 22:47

Ha, I forgot all about this until I checked MN notifications. Let’s see how much better it is this year…

isladeltesoro · 30/11/2023 23:01

Thanks for reminding us!

My bet is on a free M&S paper bag. " This is not just any paper bag, it's an M&S paper bag " after all.
