A light-hearted thread, to post, and to discuss, details of noteworthy properties, that don't quite deserve their own thread, but catch the eye.

How about this place - gloriously wonky, lots of potential, but a bit too close to planes trains and automobiles for me.

15 acres and planning permission in Surrey make me surprised it isn't (even) more expensive. And not surprised it sold quickly. I hope its new owners don't paint it all grey and install a monster kitchen.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 29/11/2022 14:13

Yay!

NuffSaidSam · 29/11/2022 14:15

Boggle, Drool and Sneer sounds like an Estate Agent from a Road Dahl book.

Or Dickens maybe.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 29/11/2022 14:15

That is suspiciously cheap for 15
acres Surrey. Maybe there’s a ghost in the avocado bathroom suite.

Deathraystare · 29/11/2022 14:29

No thanks. Hate beams with a vengeance!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/11/2022 15:54

That's a 'drool' one for me.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 29/11/2022 16:12

Boggle and Drool I can appreciate, but 'Sneer'? Is this a quote from something, or are you really intending to sneer at people's homes on this thread?

Apologies if it's a reference or quote I am missing - just seems a bit 'off' to sneer when MN threads so often wind up in the Daily Mail etc. and someone's home could be held up as a public laughing stock.

I agree. I remember a thread from a while back where a poster was understandably really upset because her family home - which had recently sold after her parents had passed away - had become the subject of an Insta renovation where the new buyers were slagging off the house as they gutted it. I’d hate for anyone to see their family home sneered at in the same way and making its way to the DM.

No issues with boggling and drooling, but sneering seems to cross a line. You have no idea why a home might not be of whatever standard or decor you deem appropriate - often such homes are lived in by people who can't cope for whatever reason - illness, disability, depression. Actually setting up a thread 'come here and sneer' is spiteful in my opinion.

You might at least get it moved to 'Property' so it's off the beaten track a bit, but personally I think you should get it renamed to 'Boggle and Drool' which I think would reflect a more lighthearted spirit in which to comment on people's homes.

balalake · 29/11/2022 17:24

I think your name is too kind. Grabbit, snatch and run would be more appropriate.

VaginaRegina · 29/11/2022 22:26

Oh ffs. Look me in the eyes and tell me you never sneer.

Echobelly · 29/11/2022 22:35

How many bathrooms?! And how many different colour schemes for them?! www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/62800878/?search_identifier=dd29e0d045691831b1ba6274fdd5e915

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/11/2022 22:41

That is a lot of bathrooms. And an interesting window in pic 24.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 29/11/2022 22:45

‘How will I know which house is yours?’

’Don’t worry, you can’t miss it ...’

A lot to like in this one. Might need a bit of redecoration.

Loving the car barn...if only there was a word for that!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/11/2022 23:15

TBF, that is too large to be a mere garage.

I used to live near a pink equivalent of that turquoise house. It was indeed very handy when giving directions.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/11/2022 23:51

Not for the house, but for the gorgeous ancient tree: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/124694624#/?channel=OVERSEAS

Yo, listen up, here's the story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night
And everything he sees
Is just blue, like him
Inside and outside

I’m looking you right in the eyes and I’m telling you I never sneer at other people’s homes. FFS.

When my dad died a recluse my sister and I found our family home - the one he’d banned us from - in a terrible state, the result of his mental ill health. If I’d seen it on here and witnessed posters sneering at it I’d would have been heartbroken.

Flowers I am facing into much the same with my elderly and unwell parents, one of whom has dementia and hoarding issues.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 30/11/2022 11:27

“Boggle, drool, sneer” is a thread title
carried over from another talk site. It’s not meant to be taken seriously and I don’t think any of the posters from the old thread would mock a home that was clearly in a state because the owner was infirm or mentally ill.

Ah, yes. I have now seen their 'Lifeboat' thread, and, guess what, they are already mocking Mumsnetters as being 'humourless' for being concerned about this thread title. How lovely of them. Apparently it is because we are 'Quite Young'. Actually, no - this comes very much from a perspective of being middle-aged and old enough to have to deal with declining relatives who can no longer maintain their houses ...
