A light-hearted thread, to post, and to discuss, details of noteworthy properties, that don't quite deserve their own thread, but catch the eye.

How many bathrooms?! And how many different colour schemes for them?! www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/62800878/?search_identifier=dd29e0d045691831b1ba6274fdd5e915

How many extensions has that house had? It just has bits growing out of it everywhere. And what is the utility room about, with the steps and all the tiles.

Love that the feature you're boggling at is the car barn Grin

(Or are you drooling?)

Splatterwack · 30/11/2022 12:41

Might be a good idea to get rid of the sneer bit in the thread title, I was never fond of it on the original thread tbh.

Yes! That is exactly what I'm talking about. Boggling and drooling are fine, but I think people who want to sneer at other people's homes should do it in private, not on a forum whose threads are regularly featured in the tabloid press

Loving the car barn...if only there was a word for that!

Bother. Too near the motorway for me.

Looked really nice until the last bathroom, wouldn't put me off it though

I thought that Boggle, Drool and Sneer were names of estate agency employees.

Boggle is a 20 something man in a shiny suit with a top of the range boy racer/bird pulling car who takes first time buyers to view probate properties.

Drool is on her apprenticeship and is known for her immaculate nails and high heels. She looks after the office when the others are on viewings. Boggle fancies the pants off her.

Sneer is a 50 year old ex public school boy who deals with high net worth clients. Often wonders why the gels in the office don't like his advances.

Good point about the press. The original thread comes from a much smaller site that newspapers didn't bother with.

However, I will point out that what sneering did occur there was directed at 'more money than taste' McMansions. Or at terrible estate agents who thought they could sell large expensive houses with 4 photos of door handles and 1 out-of-focus shot of their shoes and put in either no effort, or far too much effort, when writing the description. (Sneering on that front is certainly already in evidence on this site even if not explicitly labelled as such.)

Having said that, I'd be very happy to lose the word from the title.

I quite liked the look of this one too, but about half way through I thought it would be a bugger to heat and then I realised there are no doors! The bathrooms are either in the bedroom or attached to the bedrooms (again no doors). What if you need to poo? What about mould? What if your heating goes off?

Too many unanswered questions!

The 'McMansions' thing is just snobbery, though. Sneering at people whose tastes you perceive to be working class - the 'nouveau riche' - if it was simply people whose taste you thought was bad, you wouldn't dub their houses 'McMansions'.

How dare these oiks earn their money, and spend it on what they like? Only the proper upper classes who have inherited their money and, presumably, a taste in home decor that meets with your approval, should be allowed to own big houses.

Awful lot of assumption/projection going on here, Plaitypuss. I’d probably avoid this thread if I were you.

No assumptions - the pp clearly said the 'sneer' part was aimed at 'Mcmansions'.

I say again - these are real people and they are ordinary people - not celebrities, not people who have set themselves up as social media influencers or put themselves in the public eye - real people going about the ordinary (and stressful) business of selling their homes, people who will be easily identifiable. They have a right not to be held up to public ridicule. Commenting on their houses is one thing, but a thread with the express purpose of sneering at them is simply unfair.
