And they pull out the smallest scone on the pile that didn’t rise like the others 😂

do you say something or not?

I didn’t but it was considerably smaller

lighthearted 😜

It depends how much smaller! If it was much smaller I probably would.

The absolute worst things they can do with scones is bring one that they’ve heated in the microwave (obviously done to hide the fact it’s not fresh). That makes me feel truly murderous - a scone is supposed to have a lovely big dod of cool butter on it and depending on my mood, possibly some good conserve.

Brefugee · 29/11/2022 13:26

what kind of size compared to the others?
I'd say that I'm not paying full price for that, so either half price or a proper one.

Hoppinggreen · 29/11/2022 13:27

Scones don’t go with coffee

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2022 13:33

Unlike the unrisen scone, I suppose.
Whether I said anything or not would probably depend on the disparity in size and how hungry I was.

Scones don’t go with coffee

Cream teas don't (obviously) but a scone and butter is fine for elevenses.

Scones don’t go with coffee

A cheese scone and a flat white is the breakfast of kings.

dudsville · 29/11/2022 13:36

Yes, scones don't go with coffee! I'll bet anything that's why you were given the small one.

Just kidding. I have on occasion asked for a specific item on display.

AlwaysLatte · 29/11/2022 13:38

I don't usually give them a choice. 'Could I have a scone please? - that one there'.

Scones don’t go with coffee

You are very wrong

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/11/2022 13:39

If I see one I want I ask for it Grin

carefulcalculator · 29/11/2022 13:41

I would say something I think, although usually I say 'can I hate that one' straight off.

eggandonion · 29/11/2022 13:41

Im currently enjoying coffee and a fruit scone, but some of the fruit is overdone. Too much baking soda is another annoyance.
Definitely tea goes better with the whole jam and cream scenario. Coffee if no cream is involved.

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 13:42

I once sent a plate back at a restaurant on the grounds of portion size.

3 of us at a big table had ordered the same meal (it was a chickpea daal sort of thing) and my portion was under half the size of the others. I was upfront with them and just said, "I'm paying the same as my friends so I'd like the same size meal please"

AdaColeman · 29/11/2022 13:49

Also irritating is when you reject a cake etc they are about to serve you, and ask for a specific one, and they say indignantly, "They are all the same".
You reply, "Well give me the one I want then" and get the grumpy sighs and the thousand-daggers look!

Reminds me if the “you cut, I’ll choose” rule for siblings sharing cake!

Skinnermarink · 29/11/2022 14:05

I ask for the one I want. I have never been refused.

Whatwouldnanado · 29/11/2022 14:08

Scones (warm, huge very fruity ones slathered with teeth mark depth butter ) were served with milky coffee as a school dinner pudding at my primary school. Gorgeous.

tresleches · 29/11/2022 14:09

I can tolerate a smaller scone but would never accept a single pat of butter for it

mondaytosunday · 29/11/2022 14:10

Yes if it was noticeably smaller. I'd say 'oh can I have another one please that's not so small'! Simple as that! They'd rather have a happy customer than one that's going to complain on Mumsnet!

they gave me 2, which I would have used if id had a bigger scone! but only needed 1 😁

what kind of size compared to the others?

about a third smaller I reckon, it was pleasant, not stale and no ttt taste of soda.

VenusClapTrap · 29/11/2022 14:51

Mmm, scones.

I have in the past looked theatrically disappointed and asked “Can I have that one instead?”

They’ve always laughed and complied.

Booklover3 · 29/11/2022 14:57

I generally specify in these instances. “I’d like a scone, but not that small one thank you”

JogOnNed · 29/11/2022 15:04

The posters saying they normally request a specific product 🤣 Reminds me of little kids at a party asking for a certain colour balloon or a certain cupcake as it has the right colour sprinkles on!

Yeah OP I would have just said "no I'd rather not that one please"
