It would not happen because tea is drunk with scones you utter monster.

Not in the US. Coffee is king, scones or not.

In the US, scones tend to be larger than British ones, but even so, I'd ask for the biggest one they've got.

Exactly

A cheese scone and a flat white is the breakfast of kings.

Every time someone eats a cheese scone, a fairy cries.

im not sure they are the same food item?

an English scone is sugar butter and egg with a drop of milk, baked and then cut in half butter and jam applied 😆

Also irritating is when you reject a cake etc they are about to serve you, and ask for a specific one, and they say indignantly, "They are all the same".
You reply, "Well give me the one I want then" and get the grumpy sighs and the thousand-daggers look!

Shit cafe!

WhaSaucepan · 29/11/2022 16:43

Scones in America are called biscuits and eaten with gravy, have eaten them a few times in the states, they are nothing like British scones.

Because they don’t have sugar in them

That must be why my city is devoid of fairies then - [[

Had m and s one lately but was there from weekend.. so not great/fresh Finding their cafe hasnt much in it lately.

CatSeany · 29/11/2022 17:22

I say nothing, but silently seethe. I reckon they try with each person to get rid of the smallest... replace it if they say something and it's a win if they don't.

saveforthat · 29/11/2022 17:29

I was a coffee shop the other day and a piece had fallen off of the slice of cake I was given. I asked for a full slice of course. They rolled their eyes a bit but bakery items are expensive in those places there is no way I am paying to be short changed with a runt scone.

mincepiepie · 29/11/2022 18:18

I wouldn't say anything because I would be worried the staff would, consciously or not, judge me . Instead I inwardly seethe and rabbit about it all day

It's a perfectly reasonable to say. "Could I have different scones please I don't like the look of this one it looks a bit weedy and pathetic"

AriettyHomily · 29/11/2022 18:27

I have never ordered a coffee and a scone!

It's far worse than that, there's a huge conspiracy in cafe's etc that serve scones and cakes, we pick a random customer and they are our player, and then give them the small scone/piece of cake 🍰 and then if we're not asked to change it we get 10 points, 5 if we strop enough so the customer just accepts the smaller one and you lose 5 points if you have to change it.
I'm in the minus figures because I save the smaller ones until last so I can eat them as unsold.

🤫😉 You heard it here first.......

Nothing like scones and nothing like biscuits. And the gravy is nothing like gravy either, is it?

kingtamponthefurred · 29/11/2022 19:04

SirChenjins · 29/11/2022 12:00

It depends how much smaller! If it was much smaller I probably would.

The absolute worst things they can do with scones is bring one that they’ve heated in the microwave (obviously done to hide the fact it’s not fresh). That makes me feel truly murderous - a scone is supposed to have a lovely big dod of cool butter on it and depending on my mood, possibly some good conserve.

Anyone who puts any kind of baked goods in a microwave is a monster.

SirChenjins · 29/11/2022 19:17

I absolutely agree @kingtamponthefurred punishable by a slow death imo

ODFOx · 29/11/2022 19:34

"A cheese scone and a flat white is the breakfast of kings."

Try it with butter and a rasher of smoked bacon in the cheese scone. You are welcome.

No. We have scones in the US. They are not the same thing as biscuits.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/11/2022 19:53

And biscuits are sometimes eaten with gravy, but more often with butter and jam, or my favorite, honey.

ACoffeeAtMidnight · 29/11/2022 19:54

What's the textural difference between biscuits and scones? I've only ever had scones.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2022 20:03

Hoppinggreen · 29/11/2022 13:27

Scones don’t go with coffee

Of course they do!

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2022 20:03

I was very disappointed with a scone I had last week. It looked lovely but was over baked. Gutted!
