And they pull out the smallest scone on the pile that didn’t rise like the others 😂

do you say something or not?

I didn’t but it was considerably smaller

@bigbadbarry

Starbucks in China (I know that is a bit niche) has triangular raisin scones. They are delicious but - imagine this! - they don't give you anything with it. No butter, no jam. They are not dry so it is ok but it is hardly a proper scone experience.

can you imagine going into a loo in the only KFC in Bejing (1988) and the man stood at the door was tearing pieces of loo roll at the perforations, I got one piece like everyone else...

to be fair it was the only time id seen toilet paper and the cubicle had a door - so not all bad

id take the dry scone, I had 18 meals in total in 21 days in China

The person serving you was well within their rights to give you the smallest one because you were having coffee honestly some people

this makes me laugh, I'll get a biscuit next time

When I was a student and waitress in a cafe… I would always pick the best cakes for the customers that were friendly, polite and smiled at me. Those that were rude / impatient… well they got the smallest ones!

perhaps time for a little introspection Op! 😂

A muffin would also be acceptable with coffee

A toasted teacake would go nicely with a pot of tea. I haven't had a toasted teacake for years.

My 'thing' is traybakes like flapjacks. No, I don't want the corner piece with 2 hard-baked sides thank you very much. Ideally I'd like a no-crust centre piece but strangely enough they've usually all gone, so I'll make do with one crispy edge. But not two.
I wonder if 'getting rid of corner pieces of flapjacks' is also part of the cafe game mentioned up-thread?

muffins can be hit and miss though, we normally have teacakes when we have a stop cycling, they don't sit heavy in your stomach like cake does, which is great after the tea stop getting home.

Some people (me!) love the crispy, caramelised edges of traybakes. Also, the edges tend to be a bit thick as it sinks slightly in the middle. You can have my soft, sad, thin middle bits, and I'll have your crunchy, thick corners.
