I'm meant to be at a funeral Monday. (Hopefully not my own )

Crikey vicar! Has anything like this happened before? Hope you get sorted ASAP

karmaisacat · 27/11/2022 02:54

I’m so sorry. I’m awake and here to hold your hand if you need it. Have they told you how long the ambulance will be?

justloveandlightx · 27/11/2022 02:57

Here for you. Hope they get to you soon x

carefulcalculator · 27/11/2022 03:04

I'm glad to read you phoned for help! I hope your wait is short.

Have you had a virus, do you have a known condition? The waiting must be difficult.

lovelilies · 27/11/2022 03:08

Sometimes they are over cautious and send one out but when they get there they'll check you over and let you stay home.

Do you have any long term health complications? What are your symptoms now? Try and relax (o know easier said than done!)

stillvicarinatutu · 27/11/2022 03:17

Never ever happened before - I tested for covid today and was negative. Just got a terrible cold and chesty cough, but tonight seem to have taken a turn for the worse very quickly. I'm struggling for breath and my chest sounds de-scust-ing . Call taker at 111 could hear the wheezing and squeaking but bit if a shock to be told an ambulance is being sent out - I can't get hold of any family or friends . I'm hoping they'll let me stay here . I'm sure it's just a chest infection. Thought I'd be told to drag myself down to walk in though not get sent an ambulance. Think I might try and snooze till it arrives - though I'm virtually sat up cos if I lay down I can't breathe . My face aches . My eyes ache . Back aches . Ear aches but it's my chest that's done it ....it's come on really fast . Weird .

@stistillvicarinatutu I have the same this evening. Can't lie down as my chest crackling when I breathe and wheezing. Haven't phoned 111 though as I think mines is just a chest infection. But so annoying as can't lie down to sleep. Hope your ambulance comes soon!

karmaisacat · 27/11/2022 03:23

It’s good they’re checking on you. Hopefully it is just a chest infection but you know you’re in the right place if it’s something nastier. It’s horrible when you’re unwell and can’t properly rest.

I'm the same. I think it's the fever making my eyes hurt so much. I close them every few minutes but it makes the breathing and pain scarier.

Hope you both feel better soon.

Trumpton · 27/11/2022 03:34

Oh Vicar that’s horrible. I had the same about a month ago post Covid.
I was very frightened. DH said I sounded like old bellows. Dr sent ambulance and they said deep chest infection and dr prescribed antibiotics.
I slept sitting up for a few nights.
Leave all your outdoor lights on and the door on the latch so they can get in easily.

Nat6999 · 27/11/2022 03:34

How long have you been waiting? I had to wait 2 hours last night for an ambulance for my 84 year old mum who had suffered a cardiac seizure. Watching her having the seizure was terrifying & waiting 2 hours for an ambulance knowing that there wasn't anyone on the phone talking to me in case it happened again before the ambulance arrived was truly awful. I hope by now they have arrived & are helping you, I hope you feel better soon.

lovelilies · 27/11/2022 03:35

I assume you've taken paracetamol and a warm drink? Can you sit in the bathroom with some steam (running shower) that may help a bit while you wait

stillvicarinatutu · 27/11/2022 03:39

Not here yet - they won't be sent on a cat 1 ....

I've left lights on , unlocked door and dogs are in kitchen.

The squeaking and rattling is keeping me awake anyway .

Hopefully they won't take me in .

I tookpracetamol earlier and had night nurse and a cuppa .

Might make another. Good idea

I hope they come soon OP. It does sound like a chest infection but they will just have wanted to send an ambulance due to obvious breathing difficulties. I’m sure you will just need some antibiotics and be as right as rain. Xx

Be careful taking night nurse AND paracetamol because night nurse contains paracetamol too.

Ime, with asthma/chest infections/wheezing they will give you an ECG, listen to your chest, check your oxygen levels and then give you a nebuliser. As long as they can get your oxygen into normal range and the wheezing settles down they won't take you in. They'll leave you at home and advise you to contact your GP on Monday.

Hopefully they turn up soon and you can get some rest.

HeresTheTea · 27/11/2022 03:47

Hope yhey arrive soon @stillvicarinatutu - they'll probably pop you on ventolin nevuliser and assess you for a while at home - hope you get some relief soon. I know from experience how scary and lonely if can be.

OP didn't call for an ambulance. she called 111 and they dispatched the ambulance

Frequency · 27/11/2022 03:54

A taxi to my 'local' hospital would cost around £65 each way. OP didn't request an ambulance or transport to the hospital. One was sent by the medically trained professional who spoke to her and heard the wheezing.

Breathing difficulties can go from mildly irritating to deadly very, very quickly.

Didjesuspoop · 27/11/2022 03:55

Here for a handhold 🌸hope you don’t have to wait too much longer

3luckystars · 27/11/2022 03:57

nobody likes the hospital but you might need a nebuliser so you are going the right way!
I hope you feel better soon, sounds like a bad infection, you poor thing.
All the best.
