Hey Vicar great to hear you back here. I was quite worried about you. Still am really. You sound very ill.

Can you call someone to come and help today? Get them to get some shopping in if you don't have enough for a few days (you won't suddenly feel up to shopping or cooking in a day or two) and walk the dogs and feed them? I know you can probably feed them..but you need to do as little as possible - probably less than you're even planning!

You sound very self sufficient, but please don't try to be that today.

Glad to see you posting @stillvicarinatutu and hope you're feeling better?

"Fuck off" is almost too mild for the sheer fury I feel at people who sanctimoniously took it upon themselves in the middle of the night to attack someone on their own who can't breathe calling for help.

Real human beings could die (or lose their loved ones) because you as a goady piece of shit on the internet decided to stick your unnecessary oar in. Especially women who are socialised hard not to make a fuss or told they're making things up by the medical profession. So yeah, we need something harder than a "fuck off". In the absence though, I guess a hearty and sincere "fuck you" has to do.

This with bells on. Hope you get some sleep and feel better OP.
Hopefully your family will help with dogs once awake. If you were my neighbour I'd dog sit!

DustyOwl · 27/11/2022 07:27

Ambulance guilt is horrible and real but you absolutely did the right thing and so did they. They are professionals and they know when it’s serious, more so than any of us on a forum.

Please take this seriously. If they think you need to go in and it gets worse, in anyway, call them back. I feel your pain, not being able to breath is terrifying. Ignore the haters (I can’t believe I just wrote that, I sound like I’m trying to be from “da streets”). Please, please look after yourself ❤️

daretodenim · 27/11/2022 07:31

People are actually trying to shame someone who has severe breathing problems for calling for medical assistance.

There's a few people who should feel ashamed.

Vicar definitely isn't one of them.

Santadecisions · 27/11/2022 07:41

I don't understand the suggestion you couldn't post on Mumsnet if very unwell. I have been very unwell before and still been able to do most things. My GP sent me to hospital because oxygen low and I had just been on the school run. I remember having a cry in the middle of the night because it was so unpleasant not being able to breath but I could still go about my normal business.

OP I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm sorry about your colleague, it doesn't sound like you are well enough to be going out though and you'd be better resting.

You might be able to get a prescription from out of hours GP today rather than wait until Monday. Sounds like you need antibiotics.

Hibye23289 · 27/11/2022 07:07

@Lizzy1328 I don't mean to be mean to OP but I was thinking the exact same. You wouldn't be able to type long messages if you couldn't breathe

So you know better than the trained paramedics who have seen and assessed OP? Are you medically trained?

Suffrajitsu · 27/11/2022 07:45

OP, can you get someone to look after the dogs today so you can go to A&E? What do you normally do with them when you go to work?

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/11/2022 07:45

@stillvicarinatutu I really hope you get some help with the dogs today so that you can go to hospital.

For those who don't know, the Op has been here for many years and is a serving police officer. Stop giving her a hard time.

MissMarpleRocks · 27/11/2022 07:46

Dc friend had sepsis & was still able to message on phone.

poor you op I hope you feel better soon. I’m 2 lots in with antibiotics for walking pneumonia. GP said if I deteriorated at all to go straight to a&e so please bear that in mind if you do feel worse. The not being able to breathe has been horrid.

Hibye23289 · 27/11/2022 07:56

@Suffrajitsu No but neither are the 111 operators that are reading from a script and doing a yes or no quiz like they are trying to find out which girl band member you are from a teen magazine. They always have to cover themselves and an icu nurse commented saying you wouldn't be able to do that, if you literally cannot breathe you could not make a cup of tea or type out looong paragraphs or worry about the dog and funeral, i know it would be at the back of your mind but if you are scrambling for air you wouldn't care. I'm sorry the op feels unwell and i don't mean to be mea, I'm not even angry about the ambulance situation I just don't think it was urgent enough for an ambulance it was a make your own way to hospital situation.

Frequency · 27/11/2022 08:03

People whose COPD/asthma is uncontrollable to the point they can never breathe easily and require oxygen to keep their stats up can move around their houses and make themselves drinks and meals. They might not be able to do it as easily as someone with normal lung function but they can do it.

whyhere · 27/11/2022 08:04

It takes a particular type of person to post nasty comments on a thread started by someone who is alone and frightened (and obviously, by their job, a generally very capable and self-sufficient person). Shame on you.

First: be kind.

🙏Hope you feel better soon OP.

You don't mean to be mean? Well you are. HTH

OP did absolutely the right thing by calling 111 for advice. I have asthma and it is terrifying not being able to breathe properly.

Willmafrockfit · 27/11/2022 08:05

i am glad i didnt come on mumsnet when i had to call an ambulance for someone with difficulty breathing due to eating peanut butter!
although we had to wait i was far too frightened to drive.

tulips27 · 27/11/2022 08:06

There was a thread yesterday where someone had foil in their trachea, or thought they might. Several initial posts offered general musings rather than saying "seek urgent medical attention". Others concluded it was definitely one thing or another with no basis. It's very, very worrying. What if that person had got into serious difficulties and died?

Some sites do not allow people to offer medical advice and I can now see why. A scary amount of people seem to think they can offer their groundless "diagnoses" with confidence, presumably with no medical training whatsoever and obviously without having interacted with the "patient" besides reading a few posts. How long until someone acts on this bad advice and becomes seriously ill?

Mumsnet is on very shaky ground, here. And I hope the OP doesn't feel bad at all because of some very ill-judged posts in this thread. Get well soon.

rainbowstardrops · 27/11/2022 08:06

Hope you can get someone to sit with the dogs OP and go and get the medication you clearly need. Take care Flowers

Summerfun54321 · 27/11/2022 08:07

I’ve been in an ambulance for a life threatening pulmonary embolism before. I wasn’t wheezing, I could talk and I could definitely use my phone. I was however breathless, had a racing heart and very scared and there was no way on earth I could or should have driven myself to A&E. The people accusing the OP of wasting ambulance time are just stupid trolls who know nothing about the OPs situation so just shouldn’t comment. Please just go away.

Allsnotwell · 27/11/2022 08:07

You won’t wait in A&E with breathing difficulties they take you straight in for a nebuliser

Thinking of something constructive to say but this sums it up! Hope you get some support irl today but nice to see you posting..

LT2 · 27/11/2022 08:10

Wow, just wow. If it was their family member, no doubt it would be OK for an ambulance to attend. I agree with PP - it could be very dangerous for these messages of 'no ambulance required' to be left on this thread - to make someone who is worried for their health and safety to read that and feel guilt out of ringing for assistance.

The majority of responders are thankfully empathetic, so it's obvious you did the right thing (as also evidenced by the actions of the medics when they arrived to you). Hope you are better very soon.

Wow but your able to type on Mumsnet?

Summerfun54321 · 27/11/2022 08:14

“Healthcare shaming” is definitely a type of sick trolling. The government should be sued over what they’ve done to the NHS, it’s not for untrained individuals to assess when they do or don’t need medical assistance, it’s entirely the job of 111 or 999 and no one should ever feel ashamed of having to seek medical assistance.

LT2 · 27/11/2022 08:15

@KalvinPhillipsBoots since when do you use your fingers to breathe? I don't see how breathing difficulties = paralysis🤔

Rabidturnip · 27/11/2022 08:17

Vicar, nice to see you. We’ve chatted over the years, but I’ve name changed a couple of times. Hope you feel better asap 💐

butterpuffed · 27/11/2022 08:18

Some of the comments on here are disgusting . A lot of the posters think they know better than the professionals and many are simply repeating what those posters have said . Awful , just awful.

I hope you feel better soon OP .
