You've articulated what I wanted to say - can't believe medical professionals would do this tbh wouldn't want them looking after my family members with their lack of compassion.

Hope your okay op, please update us if you can and want to Flowers

JoanOfAllTrades · 27/11/2022 04:49

I am a medically trained professional and the 111 operator has done exactly the right thing.

Just the breathlessness is enough.

Chest pain like you have an elephant on your chest is enough.

Being unable to catch your breath doesn’t mean you are completely unable to ambulate, make a hot drink or anything else.

I really hope @stillvicarinatutu is okay and it is just a chest infection or something similar.

I can't diagnose what’s wrong with OP because I’m not there, I haven’t seen any vital signs or an ECG but at the hospital or even in the ambulance, they will take obs and an ECG and it could be something or nothing!

Longtalljosie · 27/11/2022 05:13

This is worrying- especially that vicar only posted twice and I can’t believe the ambulance got here that quickly. Hoping for an update.

People don't really think that claiming to be a medical professional means you are one do they?

The vast majority of posts speaking with great authority about a person they haven't examined and from whom they haven't taken a history are not written by people claiming to be qualified in anything at all (they clearly aren't). Occasionally one is written by someone who claims they are qualified - personally I have my doubts, as in fact no properly qualified professional person should be doling out medical advice to someone they haven't seen or examined on the internet with the flimsiest of details, particularly not when the advice is to ignore the advice of the only actual service that's had a chance to take some kind of history from the patient.

I hope you're ok OP and recover quickly.

MsChatterbox · 27/11/2022 05:40

Hope you're OK, sounds scary especially when you're on your own!

OverArmour · 27/11/2022 05:43

Hope you’re ok Vicar. Sorry about the arses on here. I remember you having chest pain before so hope you’ve been seen for that too and are taking care of yourself.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/11/2022 05:49

Yes, 111 - at least where I live - will despatch ambulances. They offered to for me recently for DS, but I said I could take him to the hospital as he was stable.

Stop assuming that Stillvicarinatutu can drive, has access to a car, feels safe and well enough to drive or can rouse someone to drive her.

I might be completely and utterly wrong on this, but I think stillvicarinatutu is a police officer. She's probably aware of the funding crisis in emergency services and how these are abused.

codehelp · 27/11/2022 05:49

I actually think MNHQ should delete posts and give people a warning for telling others off for seeking emergency help. It's dangerous.

I'm sure most of us would hesitate anyway and if you're anxious and have this bullshit at the back of your mind, you might just end up martyring yourself or loved ones so as not to be a bother to the system.

Seriously, that's why we HAVE the fucking system.

Hope you're okay OP Flowers

Moggyd · 27/11/2022 05:53

No wonder OP hasn't come back. Why on earth do so many threads turn on the OP and attack like this? FGS can't people have a bit of compassion for someone who is alone and terrified and can't breathe properly.

Willmafrockfit · 27/11/2022 05:53

tea is good
a hot drink is recommended in asthma
best wishes @stillvicarinatutu

This is the first and only time in 50 years that I have ever had an ambulance despatched . I am also an emergency service worker so I know the difference between needing o E and not

111 despatched them . I have been put on a nebuliser but was still wheezy after that - they would like me to go with them to a& E but I have no one to look after my dogs and I live alone - I cannot drive at the moment , I am too breathless and shaking from all the salbutamol. My o2 levels were down after walking , I feel like shit and I'm going to bed .

I have never ever had an ambulance to me in my life and they've said it was absolutely right for them to attend ,

Is that ok ?
I couldn't rouse anyone because I'm here alone .
I can't drive .

I didn't call the ambulance, I called 111 , they got a clinician to ring me and they despatched an ambulance.

Glad to hear you’re doing OK vicar. Wishing you all the best.

Dontsparethehorses · 27/11/2022 06:01

I hope you find someone who can look after your dogs so you can attend a&e later today if your still struggling. You clearly did the right thing and hope you feel better soon. I attended children’s a&e last weekend with my daughters breathing and it was terrifying how many other young children were suffering with the same issues 😣

WhatTheHellIsAQuasar · 27/11/2022 06:02

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 27/11/2022 05:32

This please 💐

You should both fuck the fuck off. OP knows about the stretched resources, she didn’t ask for the ambulance, she’s alone and scared.

I’ll say again. Fuck. Off.

stillvicarinatutu · 27/11/2022 06:06

Oh and they despatched because I DONT have asthma but she could hear the wheezing on the phone . I could t say one sentence as too out of breath. I did t know that because I have no one here so haven't been talking to anyone .

OP posts:
kiwiiem · 27/11/2022 06:08

Vicar, please don’t hesitate to phone someone back if you take another funny turn or get more worrying symptoms before being able to attend A&E. You’re very clearly in need of medical help and I would hate to think people on here have made you feel like you’re a burden in some way or undeserving.

Hope some rest makes you feel a bit better x

camelfinger · 27/11/2022 06:10

All sounds very scary for you, you did the right thing. Hope it starts to improve soon, don’t worry about seeking help if you need it.

I hope you can get yourself sorted later when your family wakes up 💐

Frequency · 27/11/2022 06:10

You don't have to justify anything, OP. You did the right thing. If you're going to bed sleep propped up on pillows. Laying flat will make it worse and try to see a GP/OOH service when you can for some antibiotics/steroids.

There has been more than one thread on here when people’s lives have been saved due to seeking advice on here after substandard medical treatment. Off the top of my head we had a woman who had uterine hemorrhaging and had been fobbed off, nearly died in eventual ambulance, appendicitis case - also fobbed of and another a couple of weeks ago that I’m trying to remember. So yeah - no the threads shouldn’t be deleted. Unless we’re pretending the NHS isn’t a sunken ship.

whataballbag · 27/11/2022 06:11

The 111 service uses NHS pathways.

One of the first questions asked to rule out life threatening emergencies is 'are you/they so breathless that speaking more than a few words is impossible'

If a person is calling for themselves it will be extremely obvious to the call handler and they may not need to ask.

A yes to that question will always generate an ambulance dispatch.

codehelp · 27/11/2022 06:12

Glad to see you posting @stillvicarinatutu and hope you're feeling better?

"Fuck off" is almost too mild for the sheer fury I feel at people who sanctimoniously took it upon themselves in the middle of the night to attack someone on their own who can't breathe calling for help.

Real human beings could die (or lose their loved ones) because you as a goady piece of shit on the internet decided to stick your unnecessary oar in. Especially women who are socialised hard not to make a fuss or told they're making things up by the medical profession. So yeah, we need something harder than a "fuck off". In the absence though, I guess a hearty and sincere "fuck you" has to do.

PupInAPram · 27/11/2022 06:13

@Smallonesaremorejuicy @Lizzy1328 so what should OP have done, alone in the middle of the night, unable to breath? Should she not have called 111 for help? She she have told 111 she refused an ambulance, against their advice? I find what you have both written absolutely disgusting. I am early 60s, have (thankfully) never needed an ambulance and only been in hospital twice, to have my two children. If I am very unwell I will ring 111. If they feel I need an ambulance I will let them send it!
OP I hope you recover okay 💐
