Anyone at Sherwood CenterParcs?...

...that fancies picking up a toy that I really should have bought my DD at the time? We came home yesterday.

I didn't, thinking I'd secretly nip back for it, then surprise her on her Birthday, but I didn't clock that the Just Kids shop closed at 6.00pm.

I've called the store, and they won't post it. It's not available anywhere in the flipping UK, and charges from the US are £25.

It's a Polly Pocket set, about £15.00. If anyone is kind enough to pick it up and post it to me (I'll obviously pay the P&P) I would be eternally grateful.

It didn't occur to me how tricky it would be to find one!

Best of mumsnet here - kind hearted generous posters and batshit derails. I come here for both 😁

WimbyAce · 26/11/2022 22:23

Really hope you can get it! Watching for the outcome.

mydudero · 26/11/2022 22:31

There are a few on eBay in the US - is this the right set?

I've never bought anything on eBay outside of the UK, but the shipping costs/estimated delivery seems to have been adjusted to shipping to the UK. Not sure whether overseas shipping is something the seller has to say they are/aren't willing to do when listing the item?

I just searched Polly Pocket mermaid pirate and these 3 came up

See my answer above.

By the way I have donated £40,000 to charity over the last 7 years.

@Cookerdog Well good for you that you have been so generous!! Shame your goodwill hasn’t been extended to MN !

SereneSemolina · 26/11/2022 23:10

So glad this is going to get sorted, would Def help if I could

It does seem a bit "computer says no" of them to not help you themselves really. Would surely be easy for them to sort, not like they won't have payment and parcel systems set up.

Paignton Zoo bent over backwards to help us a few years ago when DS lost a treasured toy he'd got from there years before. We weren't even sure they'd still have similar and struggled to describe what it was. It wasn't available online and we live nowhere near! I rang and put some poor assistant through what must have been a confusing story, but they popped off and found it, took payment over the phone and it came by post, addressed to DS and beautifully packaged.

What is the spoon rest thread?

Blibbleflibble · 26/11/2022 23:27

"By the way I have donated £40,000 to charity over the last 7 years."

Hopefully not as a tax write off.

LoveMyPiano · 26/11/2022 23:30

Is it sorted out now?
I live not too far away, and could take a drive over early next week.
Not sure about entry without a booking, but haapy to give it a go :o)
(I haven't read all responses I admit, I got a bit depressed by the end of page one.)

can’t help op sorry

bit for me this is what mumsnet is for

i once went and delivered meds to a mnetter staying in a hotel near me because they were ill and akone

another time I asked for advice on a piece of decor. Another mumsnetter made me the exact thing I needed.

we all help each other, world is nicer

I agree. The kindness of strangers is a precious thing, we need to celebrate it where we can.

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 21:00

You folks - aside from @Nevermindthesquirrels - are totally misunderstanding me.

Nobody is misunderstanding you, you’re being deliberately obtuse and weird. Why does there need to be a forum dedicated to people doing each other favours? Why do you have this expectation that there needs to be recompense for said favours? Why don’t you understand that people have been doing each other favours on Mnet for years, and that it’s only a weird concept to you? Why do you have to be so dogged in your determination to be as irritating as possible?

pompomdaisy · 27/11/2022 02:14

Step away from the keyboard @Cookerdog . You're being weird.

MichelleScarn · 27/11/2022 06:09

Agree best of Mumsnet here, kindness to strangers and batshittery!! (Now off to find the spoon rest thread!)

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 27/11/2022 06:29

veryawkward · 26/11/2022 20:40

@Cookerdog

How do you know someone "gave" 40k to charity?

They tell you Confused

Or they don’t!!

Totally agree with you @veryawkward, IME people who give that sort of money to charity rarely, if ever, use it as an argument for why they’re not the arse that they’re being (either directly or, like this, by their words!!)

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 20:48

Try this then -

I live in Swindon and went to the garden centre today. I meant to pick up some orange tulip bulbs, but forgot. Now my car has packed up. Can anyone go to a garden centre, anywhere in the UK and buy some orange tulip bulbs and post them to me. I need to put them in the ground before 1 December. I would be most grateful and will send you the P&P.

……. Or you could just order online from a plant catalogue company (maybe even one run by the imaginary garden centre) with next day delivery and have them on your doorstep on Monday or Tuesday

Unlike the OP who has tried all sorts of ways of getting a specific toy that just isn’t available in the U.K. except from a shop on a holiday park who also won’t send it out!!

To be fair, I've seen similar posts on our local fb page. Not asking someone to make a special journey, but "if anyone local to me is going to that garden centre this week, could they possibly pick some bulbs up for me?" and people have had positive responses.

Zonder · 27/11/2022 08:26

You are missing the point though. Where is the MN forum thread for this kind of thing. I am genuinely interested.

@Cookerdog the OP posted on chat. Chat is where people post random things about anything, including questions they can't answer. So chat is the place. HTH.

badbaduncle · 27/11/2022 09:06

I reckon @Cookerdog is nursing a sore head somewhere after that performance last night 😂

What a lovely thread, please let us know when you are sorted OP

I am quite interested in your proposal.
I live next door to this garden centre and they often give me free tulip bulbs. I also live very close to a PO so could easily post them to you.
However, I am a bit of a cunt so I won’t
I donate loads to charity though (as a tax write off)

CenterParcsToyHelp · 27/11/2022 16:07

Update! I've just got back to a lovely message from a MNer currently in Elveden CP, who has found the Polly Pocket set! It's been safely purchased and will be posted in due course!

I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the lovely messages offering help here and by PM - you are a lovely lot!

Hugest thanks to that very lovely MNer, have a magical time at Elveden - my DD will be so, so happy 😍

Thank you everyone! xxx
