Anyone at Sherwood CenterParcs?...

...that fancies picking up a toy that I really should have bought my DD at the time? We came home yesterday.

I didn't, thinking I'd secretly nip back for it, then surprise her on her Birthday, but I didn't clock that the Just Kids shop closed at 6.00pm.

I've called the store, and they won't post it. It's not available anywhere in the flipping UK, and charges from the US are £25.

It's a Polly Pocket set, about £15.00. If anyone is kind enough to pick it up and post it to me (I'll obviously pay the P&P) I would be eternally grateful.

It didn't occur to me how tricky it would be to find one!

Time is free unless someone wants it

Cooker I'm blown away by you
Admittedly 3 glasses of wine down

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 20:42

Normally there is something in it for donors. Here, I was genuinely interested in what OP was hoping to achieve because I have never seen a post on MN before where someone is asked to source and post a new product to a complete stranger on MN. In fact MN often intervene with a warning. So I was - genuinely - interested in how OP was to pay back the favour.

Seriously genuinely interested, but you all seem to jump and quash that question.

Hellocatshome · 26/11/2022 20:44

She isn't going to pay back the favour. She is going to pay the costs and say thank you. That is enough for most people. Do you only do favours to get something in return?

Nagado · 26/11/2022 20:44

I’m sure someone on the Sherwood FB page would be able to help you, but I’m going to Elveden in two weeks and I’m happy to look for you if you have no luck before then.

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 19:35

I am interested in your proposal OP. Presumably whoever were to make a purchase in the UK would go out of their way for you. Even if at Centre Parcs already, they would still have to break off, purchase and then post it to you. In that case, how would you pay for their time, effort and risk plus the lack of privacy? Is it not easier to buy the one from the US which is via Amazon in California? If you really wanted it then $25 is much easier.

Someone on MN once posted me a specific item that she had been given, and I wanted but was only available in America. I use it daily and think of her kindness every time. People are just kind sometimes, and do things for someone they don't know. Likewise I once sent an item on an Xmas swap thread to someone for nothing in return and no postage. Just a nice thing to do. Not everyone is so obsessed with transactional reward.

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 20:48

Try this then -

I live in Swindon and went to the garden centre today. I meant to pick up some orange tulip bulbs, but forgot. Now my car has packed up. Can anyone go to a garden centre, anywhere in the UK and buy some orange tulip bulbs and post them to me. I need to put them in the ground before 1 December. I would be most grateful and will send you the P&P.

Good try but you could easily go get them tomorrow. You can't get into CP unless you pay which OP is unlikely to do just to buy a toy.

Nagado · 26/11/2022 20:52

@Cookerdog There are four CP sites in the UK. I’m quite sure that if there were only four garden centres, someone would be willing to help you if you asked nicely. You’re being a bit weird about this.

Nevermindthesquirrels · 26/11/2022 20:52

@Cookerdog yea i would. Probably wouldn't even want the p&p. The fact that making money off this even crossed your mind tells me you're a greedy asshole. Genuine interest or otherwise. I don't believe that anyway, you're only saying that because you've been flamed. You opportunistic so and so.

No, I gift to charity every year. In fact many, many people do. Many people like me have Virgin Giving or Just Giving accounts. Making charitable donations is without any collateral benefit.

Now, as I said above I was genuinely interested in how or whether this would work on MN because I have never seen it before. Read my first post again but wear a non-judgmental hat.

As I say MN has many CFS and HQ stepping in from time to time. I have no doubt OP's post is genuine, but I was curious how or whether there is any payback. After all, there is no place on MN where people payback favours unless I am missing something.

millymae · 26/11/2022 20:53

I will be at a CP next week, but NOT the Sherwood Forest one. There's no question that I will be in the toy shop at some point and I'd be more than happy to look to see if they have the Polly pocket you're after there if you don't find anyone willing to help on the SF facebook page
If you want to pm me your phone number and a link so I can see what I'm looking for I'll text you if they've got it and if you still want it we can go from there. I'll post it out to you as soon as I get home and can tell you now that there will be no added charge for my time, effort and risk!!!

CenterParcsToyHelp · 26/11/2022 20:56

Blimey Cookerdog. It's a Polly Pocket toy, not uranium.

I really, really appreciate the nice comments and ideas. Given cooker's contributions, just to be clear, I've been on MN for 15 years, I'm not a CF, and I'll obviously PM anyone who is able to help with all my contact details. 🙄

Similar has happened on Mumsnet quite often, especially around Christmas if people can't get something their kids want but it is available elsewhere etc.

You are missing the point though. Where is the MN forum thread for this kind of thing. I am genuinely interested. But everyone just jumps on me - at least one has admitted being tanked up on wine.

And just to show goodwill. PM me your address and I will buy and post to you two of these. Just in case one is faulty.

@Cookerdog Who the hell cares how much you donate to charity. Of what relevance is this to your awful attitude on here?! I don't think your donations, which take no effort at all, mean anything if you arent actually willing to help people in real life.

PuppyMonkey · 26/11/2022 21:00

Fascinated by @Cookerdog weirdness… trying not to get sidetracked…

but anyway, I’d be Tweeting CP and shaming them publicly for refusing to post the item to you.

Cookerdog · 26/11/2022 21:00

@Cookerdog There is no forum specifically for acts of kindness.
