Anyone at Sherwood CenterParcs?...

...that fancies picking up a toy that I really should have bought my DD at the time? We came home yesterday.

I didn't, thinking I'd secretly nip back for it, then surprise her on her Birthday, but I didn't clock that the Just Kids shop closed at 6.00pm.

I've called the store, and they won't post it. It's not available anywhere in the flipping UK, and charges from the US are £25.

It's a Polly Pocket set, about £15.00. If anyone is kind enough to pick it up and post it to me (I'll obviously pay the P&P) I would be eternally grateful.

It didn't occur to me how tricky it would be to find one!

I'm there in 2 weeks if you haven't sorted

I’m going to Sherwood CP on the 16th December, happy to pick up and post if you haven’t found one by then!

Bear in mind that there's planned Royal Mail strikes in December. Might not arrive in time...

I have a next day courier I can use through work, you’re absolutely right that RM wouldn’t be reliable at the time!

Thank you so much!

And good advice about the post strikes - I'll happily pay for an overnight courier if I'm still searching by then!

I am interested in your proposal OP. Presumably whoever were to make a purchase in the UK would go out of their way for you. Even if at Centre Parcs already, they would still have to break off, purchase and then post it to you. In that case, how would you pay for their time, effort and risk plus the lack of privacy? Is it not easier to buy the one from the US which is via Amazon in California? If you really wanted it then $25 is much easier.

Who would ask for payment for time and effort for that. It is an act of kindness. Putting something lovely out into the universe.

I am nowhere near there sorry op. Hope you find someone!

Hoppinggreen · 26/11/2022 21:45

If you have lots of money it’s much easier to donate to charity (and tell everyone) than actually go to any effort at all to put yourself out even a tiny bit to help someone.
I give far less than £40000to charity each year but if I was at CP (unlikely as I hate it) I would happily have done it for you OP.
Anyone remember the Mog cats Sainsburys had a few years ago? I saw a thread about them on here and an hour later I was in my local one and there were loads so I bought 5 and sent them to the first people who responded to my offer. I only took what I paid plus postage. It made people happy

intheheights · 26/11/2022 21:46

I'm at Elveden CP at the moment, I'll have a look in the toy shop tomorrow and will happily post to you if they have it. If you send me your number I will WhatsApp/text you to let you know x

Normally there is something in it for donors. Here, I was genuinely interested in what OP was hoping to achieve because I have never seen a post on MN before where someone is asked to source and post a new product to a complete stranger on MN. In fact MN often intervene with a warning. So I was - genuinely - interested in how OP was to pay back the favour.

Seriously genuinely interested, but you all seem to jump and quash that question.

I've responded to a similar post in the past. Someone wanted a baby comforter/raggie for a friend's ASD. I had the identical one they needed so posted it to them. Why wouldn't I? DS didn't need it anymore and it's good to do something nice?

I can’t help at all, but I love threads like this and people looking out for each other. I hope you get it sorted, OP.

OP I live 20 minutes away from Sherwood Center parcs...I could drive there on Monday see if they will let me in to buy it for you?
A long shot but I don't mind trying x

Try this then -

I live in Swindon and went to the garden centre today. I meant to pick up some orange tulip bulbs, but forgot. Now my car has packed up. Can anyone go to a garden centre, anywhere in the UK and buy some orange tulip bulbs and post them to me. I need to put them in the ground before 1 December. I would be most grateful and will send you the P&P.

Oh my goodness, that's incredibly kind of you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the people actually at CP now and next week, rather than put you to that trouble, but that's so warmhearted of you, thank you x

I'll give them a call on Monday and see if they will bring one to the gate x
My dd is nearly 18 but she LOVED polly pocket as a little girl so I get it!
I also remember many Christmas's where I HAD to get her the one toy she wanted...I always succeeded thank goodness! 🥰

DohaDragon · 26/11/2022 22:06

bangersandmash2 · 26/11/2022 21:25

I sort of agree though- why not buy the one on Amazon US that is available and not have to inconvenience anyone? Price difference will be negligible by the time you've paid postage.

Can you buy from USA Amazon without a USA address? Genuine question because last time I tried they wouldn’t post.

That's so incredibly lovely of you! I've got such a silly, grateful smile on my face now. My DD has been drawing a picture of it today - she is completely enamoured Grin x

I live a mile away from a different CP, and if they'd let me in I'd happily look in their toy shop. But security is really strict so I'm not very hopeful. Happy to try if you draw a blank though.

Similar story, on a Singapore Airlines flight home from our first trip to Australia with my young (at the time) DDs, I wanted to buy them each a SIA cabin crew Barbie-style doll each from the duty free catalogue as a souvenir of such a big and exciting trip. But they didn't have them on board and it wasn't possible to order and have them sent. But the lovely young flight attendant said that she'd get them for me when she got back to Singapore, and post them to me! And she did! I was bowled over, and the kids were ecstatic to get their surprise parcel!

So yes, there are some really kind people in the world.

It's simply a favour. People don't charge for their time when doing favours.
That's why it is a favour and not a business transaction.
If people don't want to go to the effort, then they simply don't volunteer to do it.

And as for the lack of privacy, people can NC on here before making contact with the OP and can use PayPal if they don't want to share bank details.

This is the sort of thing I used to do a lot when my children were very little and I wasn't at work. It's really not a biggie at all.
And if I were at CP, then I'd have no problem in helping out the OP.
