If you give insulin to a baby is it not an intent to kill?

I see what you are saying. But regardless. The prosecution have said something completely untrue.

They implied that it was someone trying to increase the dose to make sure they succeeded a second time. In actual fact, the dose was half the second time, which completely negates that argument.

Quitelikeit · 26/06/2023 16:45

yes but consider the same amount was injected into the bag but that child Ls blood was taken shortly after the bag was administered then there would be less insulin in her bloods

Also not not every person who gives insulin to a baby is trying to kill them. Some babies are prescribed insulin. Your statement says quite a lot in my opinion.

Quitelikeit · 26/06/2023 16:46

Those babies did not need insulin

No babies on the ward at that time were on insulin

Are you ok? You seem quite angry

Yes but we don't have that data... and the prosecution couldn't know how the blood levels could vary in those 2 cases.

The only point- is that the prosecution incorrectly represented that data we do have. I'm not saying this to support a theory of guilt or innocence. It's factual.

I'm just wondering Is noone else understanding this fact?! A bit bemused you are not getting it.

The nhs needs to be shaken to the core. It's a horrendous awful place to be both a patient and a member of staff. God help anyone who works there or has to use the services.

The prosecution say LL has gone to extraordinary lengths to deceive but in reality, they have to make it seem like this or the pieces of their jigsaw don't fit together. They seem to have cherry picked evidence to fit a pre-determined outcome.

All Myers has to do is provide reasonable doubt and I think he's doing a good job of it.

If she isn't guilty my heart goes out to her.

The whole case is very disturbing and doesn't make sense either way, and this thread is getting weird as well tbh

If you give insulin to a baby is it not an intent to kill?

No. Some baby's are prescribed it to bring their blood glucose levels down. But it's made up an in slow infusion over 24 hours and adjusted accordingly based on their regularly take BG levels

StarryKnight · 26/06/2023 19:35

Why would there be insulin on the ward if no one was prescribed it?

Quitelikeit · 26/06/2023 19:39

@mrsneate sorry I should have been clearer I meant in the case of these two babies

I was meaning the person who put it in their bags meant some harm

mrsneate · 26/06/2023 19:42

StarryKnight · 26/06/2023 19:35

Why would there be insulin on the ward if no one was prescribed it?

It's a drug we have in stock on our nicu. But we have a lot of babies born from as early as 22 weeks early, the teeny prems tend to get more stressed and sick and this makes their BG increased to 20-23mmols then they would need insulin

I don't post on tattle but I found this which is interesting, seems they could be using different units, hence the prosecution may have reported correctly and the defence incorrectly.

great research Gemma! I think this will get clarified in the court at some point if needs be as there’s no way the prosecution would let this go

Oh thanks that's really helpful. It will be bizarre if they are using different units of measurements in these cases. Bit of a school boy error and must be mind-boggling for the jury if no medical knowledge

Prevmidwife · 27/06/2023 10:05

To be honest I'll be really worried whatever the verdict in this case. Just feel there are so many grey areas. I'm worried for staff and patients and the implications of this for the future.

CinderRosie · 27/06/2023 14:37

I am very glad I am not on this jury.

Quitelikeit · 27/06/2023 14:55

Me too but the jury havd heard every piece of evidence so they will have a better understanding of the bigger picture than us here. It’s not like they’re being heavily influenced by a media frenzy as has been the case in the past. So that’s one good thing.

Likewise - 34 weeks of harrowing evidence and overwhelming detail
