I've got DD:

Wooden keepsake advent
Elf on the shelf activities book
Little Miss Christmas book
Reindeer headband
Christmas PJs

Baby DS has got a white chocolate calender, a wooden keepsake advent and PJs.

What the heck is a December 1st box? Isn't it enough they're getting presents on Christmas Day? God I thought Christmas Eve boxes were bad enough.

Jb2182 · 24/11/2022 20:00

The biggest question though..... What does everyone put in their December 2nd box??????

The December 3rd box.

thirstyformore · 24/11/2022 20:03

Fucking hell....1st December box? Jesus wept.

😂

Brilliant

Nothing about my previous thread suggests I'm poor.
I live in a village that has been repeatedly expanded by new build estates. So I live on a new estate meaning there isn't a close town etc. The nearest town is down and out. That doesn't mean I am! I asked about free things as I was on maternity leave. I'm not now 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's literally called "Being Poor Is..."

diamondpony80 · 24/11/2022 20:04

Never heard of December 1st boxes. We don’t do Christmas Eve boxes either. The kids do have advent calendars and we do Christmassy stuff during December though.

The December 3rd box.

Kind of like those wooden Russian dolls? A box for everyday of December! 😂

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 24/11/2022 20:04

I do this instead of a Christmas Eve box.
It has Christmas PJs, chocolate tree decorations, Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch book and his advent calendar.
I hardly think that’s over the top?
We don’t do the elf thankfully.

Yes. But I guess things change so you may no longer be poor.

I actually love this idea

mathanxiety · 24/11/2022 20:06

@mamam0918
I've been on the Christmas board for years and never saw any mention of December 1st boxes.

LondonJax · 24/11/2022 20:07

But they're Christmas presents...you know, for Christmas. Which is 25th December.

AllotmentTime · 24/11/2022 20:08

I realise it’s not the point of the thread, but this has made me realise that I should put the Father Christmas book and DVD in a box (so that we don’t get pestered for them in non-Christmas months) and if I put the Christmas cereal bowls in there too then I’ll actually remember them before we’re halfway through December.

There’s a Christmas teatowel upstairs somewhere that’s crap at drying things, that could go in too.

Brilliant idea OP 😆

Being poor is...

Money being the last thing you think of at night and first thing when you wake up.
Dreading party invites in school bags.
Wrapping the baby in blankets because it's cold but too early to justify the heating.
Feel free to add your own

All of which does rather imply that you aren't flush with money. Hence the responses on this thread, to the idea of spending a whole load more money on a day you don't need to Hmm

Mumontour85 · 24/11/2022 20:12

What the flying fuck is a December 1st box??!
My kids will get their advent Calendars om Dec 1st... like normal, sane people...

DollyDoofer · 24/11/2022 20:12

Dec 1st box? That’s nothing! My DGC get a July 1st box, which consists of their swimming costume, towel, sandwich and drink. Plus some food for BBQing, and a deflated swimming pool so they can invite their friends over for food and a swim during the hot, sweltering summer months 😓

Im joking! 🙄

ShesThunderstorms · 24/11/2022 20:13

Mine get a box on December 1st. Of chocolates. With windows. They open one a day until Christmas Eve. It's called an advent calendar.

FolornLawn · 24/11/2022 20:19

Ignoring the actual OP because Christmas boxes are clearly the work of the deranged, but what’s this about Christmas books? People have books about Christmas that you bring out and, what, read them again every year? Is that a thing?

Cordeliathecat · 24/11/2022 20:20

All nonsense. Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ. Nothing more. It’s not about presents and spoiling children. I’m not particularly religious but I am Christian. I use the festivities to remind my kids about some values shared with the Christian faith. We volunteer more over Christmas period, love thy neighbour and all that. We pause our busy lives and spend time with each other. Sure, I give the kids a few presents on Christmas Day but that’s an aside. The main point of the period is to attend church and help in the community. Advent doesn’t even start on 1 December FFS.

I don’t see the point of celebrating Christmas at all if you’re going to ignore the whole point of it. I was horrified one year when my 2 or 3 year old claimed that Father Christmas was Jesus’ father. I quickly changed how we celebrate Christmas from then on.

Yes.

The night before Christmas for Christmas eve.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/11/2022 20:21

A Miele washing machine.
Tomorrow it's the matching Dryer.
3 December is a Tommy Walsh Easi-paving Grouting Tool.
4 December is 'Build Your Own Charlie Dimmock Chest Hammock'.
5 December is Amanda Holden's booklet 'How to Maintain Your Privacy'

You get the idea...

AllotmentTime · 24/11/2022 20:21

The Father Christmas book. Ours is one DH had when little. Genuinely lovely.

Yes. But you don't throw them in the bin and buy them again next year.

On my kindle about now I get my Christmas novels out and love it they’re only read for about five weeks of the year same as my grumpy old women at Christmas dvd. It’s part of the run up to Christmas advent starts Sunday a candle this year.
