How often do you wash your hair?

And what hair type would you say you have?

My hairdresser has told me washing my hair every 2 days is not right for my hair type and I should try to wait a week. My hair is very thick and long.

I am going to give this a try because I would save a lot of time!

Interested to hear what others do

Thick, strong wave, just past collarbone length here. About every 5 days. Sometimes a week dep on my schedule - if I'm going out or not!

If I wash too often it gets really dry/frizzy and also my scalp gets very dry too.

I've switched to a silicon and sulphate free range and it seems to make it easier to go longer between washes - and keeps colour better. I sort of dabble with Curly Girl method as I'm not truly curly but do get a lot of frizz if I don't condition the heck out of it.

Every 5-6 days. Shoulder length straight hair, quite fine. I used to wash it every other day but gradually have increased the time between washes. It's less greasy that way.

Oblomov22 · 22/11/2022 15:52

Every day, very greasy hair.

I have very thick hair which I wash daily.
Mainly because my hair looks like I've stuck my fingers in a plug socket otherwise.

Plantmoretrees86 · 22/11/2022 15:59

I have fine hair but lots of it. Used to wash every second day but now I'm on mat leave it's every third (or fourth...) day and it mostly still looks okay. Reckon I'll increase the washes when I'm back to work /exercising again though.

1994girl · 22/11/2022 16:10

Once a week.

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 22/11/2022 16:16

Every day…v v short spiky and bleached

NewNameNov · 22/11/2022 16:18

Fine hair.

I can have it down the day I've washed it.

Second day it starts looking a bit greasy so needs to be tied up.

Third day it needs washing again as it's too greasy to go out with!

hellosunshineagainxxx · 22/11/2022 16:19

I have wavy long hair and wash it once a week

SheWoreYellow · 22/11/2022 16:22

About every five days. It’s long and thick. I only ever lather the scalp, thought that was usual? The rest gets a soapy rinse.

Lentilweaver · 22/11/2022 16:23

Twice a week. But I have very thick, frizzy, dry hair.

GristleToesAndWhine · 22/11/2022 16:24

Less than I used to. I used to wash every other day and in recent years I started to notice I could go another day.

More recently I realised it was 4 days since I last washed it.

I have no idea if that is age or if I am 'training' my hair to wait longer for a wash...

Iguanainanigloo · 22/11/2022 16:25

Twice a week here, I've never suffered from greasy hair luckily, if it weren't so long, I could get away with only doing it once a week, but I wear it down most days, and the ends end up getting "in stuff" 😂.

Northernsoullover · 22/11/2022 16:25

Every day. My hair is so oily that when I brush it on the morning of day 2 it looks like I've brylcreemed it 😂

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/11/2022 16:27

Thick, very slow to dry and a pain to make look nice, so washed as rarely as possible (every 3-4 days).

familyissues12345 · 22/11/2022 16:30

I have fine hair but lots of it, I wash it every other day and very occasionally will push to 3 days if I haven't got work etc. it's pretty rare though

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 22/11/2022 16:31

I have long thick hair and I wash it about every 5/6 days when I stop smelling shampoo! I think it would take about two weeks to get visibly "greasy"

FinallyHere · 22/11/2022 16:34

Unremarkable hair, short bob & lowlights.

Weekly blow dry gives great shine & bounce so that it always looks good. Never need to wash it myself, even if as occasionally happens, I miss a week.

My hair has never looked so good, anytime I catch sight of myself. It's all good.

HippyChickMama · 22/11/2022 16:36

My hair is fairly thick, straight and just below shoulders but I have a lot of it. I wash it every other day, I used to be able to go to every 3 days but am peri menopausal and have noticed the roots start to look greasy by the end of day two. 9 year old Dd has waist length kind of 2c type hair and can only wash it once or twice a week or it gets frizzy whereas 15 year old ds has short but floppy, very coarse but poker straight hair and has always needed it washed daily or it looks greasy

edin16 · 22/11/2022 16:38

Thick, curly 2c hair here. Once a week with a co-wash rather than shampoo.

theemmadilemma · 22/11/2022 16:42

I usually manage about 5 minutes with my hair down before it gets tied up, especially wfh.

So once a week, but it's not greasy and horrible by then.

Ilovedthe70s · 22/11/2022 16:43

I have ridiculous hair inherited from my grandfather, I look like I have an enormous deconstructed brillo pad on my head.
I wash my hair roughly once a week, any more frequent and it becomes really ugly.

bigbluebus · 22/11/2022 16:47

Twice a week - shoulder length wavy hair.
I tie it up and clip the front off my forehead when I exercise. If it gets sweaty it tends to be just at the top of my neck and top if forehead which I just rinse whilst in the shower. My hair has been quite dry since I hit the menopause and probably not quite as thick as it used to be - but definitely not thin.

Oncemoreforluck · 22/11/2022 16:58

Very fine shoulder length hair.
I used to wash it daily as it got really greasy. Switched to bar shampoo, and now wash every other day.
I have a fringe cut in, and have a habit of sleeping with one arm above my head, so most mornings I wake with my fringe stuck up and looking like Worzel Gummidge!

CoodleMoodle · 22/11/2022 17:00

I have long, thick, wavy hair. I wash it twice a week, max three times if I really need to (eg after exercise or swimming). Any more than that and it's a frizzy mess that I can hardly brush.
