Employers and Cost of Living

There was a thread about this a couple of months ago, but not many employers seemed to have done anything at that time - maybe more have now that it's getting colder and Christmas is coming?

Has your employer made any extra cost of living payments to you, aside from your usual expected payrise or bonus, if you have one?

Many employers are also struggling with massively increased energy bills and the price of everything rising.

purpledagger · 22/11/2022 14:57

nope. we got a 5% pay award but nothing else.

Bluey2022 · 22/11/2022 14:58

My employer has given every employee who earns under a certain amoint (£50k) a £1000 cost of living payment

Home workers are getting a whole £40 (before tax) a month extra. That's it

PeloFondo · 22/11/2022 15:07

Everyone got £300 COL payment a few months ago

ifonly4 · 22/11/2022 15:07

Three jobs between us. Two haven't given a payrise, so no chance of cost of living payment. The one employer who has given a payrise only has heating on when customers are around, so premises unheated at other times - so much for payrise.

We've had similar to this.

MissPiggysPinkDress · 22/11/2022 15:15

We had the usual pay rise in April, although it was double the percentage that it usually is, and we are getting another 4% from 1st Dec. Very grateful for it

No cost of living payment here, and no pay rise since before Covid.

mrsm43s · 22/11/2022 15:26

Public sector, so no, obviously not. We will be getting a well below inflation pay rise though, us lucky buggers!

Seapoint2002 · 22/11/2022 15:29

£50/month for 6 months to all employees

emmathedilemma · 22/11/2022 15:30

nothing
pay rises don't happen until April but I can't see us getting cost of living as a minimum

AriettyHomily · 22/11/2022 15:31

Nope. Got 1% in April.

iwannascream · 22/11/2022 15:43

I've not had a payrise since 2019 and then it was a whole 10p per hour , even though the other 7 members of staff have been given substantial increases throughout the years. I'm the only admin so my boss has no idea what I do to be honest and thinks i'm on a great pay (i'm not). I will not be getting a cost of living increase or any payrise in the immediate future.

I don't begrudge anyone else getting a rise or a cost of living increase though, so good luck to all who have already had it or are getting it soon.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 22/11/2022 15:43

Got 14% in September. Really enjoying giving all that money straight to British Gas

AtomicRitual · 22/11/2022 15:45

I'm an employer. We gave everyone a healthy payrise earlier this year but have to be careful as our own costs are spiralling too, for a variety of reasons.

Utilities costs are going up, corporation tax rates going up, salaries in general are going up due to a lack of staff available (someone that used to earn £24k a couple of years ago is now commanding £30k+), business rates will no doubt go up. Thankfully our rent is fixed for a while, but we can't pass on all our cost increases to clients though we are trying to increase them as much as we can. The clients have their own cost increases to deal with also, so it's difficult all round.

I'd love to be able to give all our staff additional cost of living payments, but we're just being squeezed from all angles at the moment and having to be careful.

Mabelface · 22/11/2022 15:49

£1000 payment and a 7% pay increase from this month. Separate from April 23's incremental increase.

Lndnmummy · 22/11/2022 15:52

£1500 lump sum payment

Quveas · 22/11/2022 15:54

My salary is worth 25% less than it was in 2010. You have got to be joking. They consider we're lucky to have jobs never mind pay as well.

TabithaTittlemouse · 22/11/2022 15:55

I didn’t realise anyone was until reading this.

JustFrustrated · 22/11/2022 15:56

Me: no pay rise and no COL payment.

DH: All employees got £1,000 before tax COL payment.

MandUs · 22/11/2022 15:57

DP's company did a 10% cost of living salary increase in top of the normal increase.

Duchese · 22/11/2022 15:59

We have received £1,500 to help with the winter fuel cost. We will get a Xmas bonus next month, I usually get £2,000 cash.

Lolreally · 22/11/2022 16:02

Dh:retail not a chance no payrise no col payment heating lower so staff are freezing.
Me: self employed business suffering badly so no.
